Few things are perfect. This song is perfect. Probably the greatest country song ever recorded.

I grew up in the south... Southeastern North Carolina. Hands down my favorite song of all time. Thanks for the story behind the song. I really appreciate it.

This is probably my favorite country song of all time. The first time I heard it sung by the late great Don Williams I was blown away. I'm not from the south, I just appreciate a great well written song and I can't think of anyone who could have told the story any better than Don.
    Thank You Mr. McDill

As much as some would like to make this a "southern" anthem Good Ole Boys Like Me strikes a chord with people from all over. Maybe it's the father/son relationship, the love of the land, the literary references. Don's delivery likely had much to do with it, but it's the words that bring forth the emotions that makes this song special. Genius. In my opinion one of the best songs ever written. It makes one FEEL.

Good Ole Boys is ALWAYS a reference to Southern men === the good ole boys stand by each other.

I am a woman who grew up in Ohio, yet I find this song deeply moving. I think any person who has ever felt "othered" can relate to these words. Don Williams performed it so very beautifully.

Awesome song that resonates with my soul!!!!!!! Love this song.and always did from the first time I heard it on the radio. Still remember working out in the garden and weeding and watering the tomatoes and green peppers and listening to this song on a hot sunny summer day and wishing there was a repeat button on the radio. The 1970's and 1980's were the best years for country music and the best artists and songs.

I recall Bob being on Bobby Bare's talk show on TNN years back. Bobby said that "Good Ole Boys Like Me" is the first country song to ever be considered as authentic American literature. After watching this interview it is clear just how deeply rooted in literature was the song's creation. Still brings tears to my eyes and I was born in California and raised in Alaska. :)

Oh, gosh, I can't believe I accidently saw this flashing in front of my TH-cam world!!
I live in the far north... and I think I've only been to the "deep south" once, but I would love the songwriter to know that I was anticipating Tennessee (for the first time) SO much that I brought a self-made cassette tape from home (during a time when a rental car would almost surely have a cassette tape player) and had THIS VERY SONG cued up to be playing as I crossed the state line from NC on the path to the Smoky Mountains National Park. The song is such a gentle and splendid representation of laid-back life in the south and so wonderfully performed by Don Williams. I hope the writer has heard many times over just how many people have been moved by this tune.
