The way you're connecting Lore pieces so quickly now is honestly one of the best parts about watching someone react to Vaati's videos imho. Good job on retaining everything you did so far, because it's actually A LOT of stuff that's been covered up until now.

Thank you! I try my best to absorb as much as I can, but my memory certainly isn't perfect. Glad to know that I've been keeping up well.

The "funny" thing about sorcery and faith in the lore is that they're basically the same thing. Both revolve around you drawing power from cosmic entities. However, while sorcery only concerns itself with the physical aspect of those entities (meteor showers, star light, etc), faith is entirely about their metaphysical aspect. When you're casting a fire incantation, you aren't really summoning fire. You're actually manifesting an aspect of the order of an outer god (the Frenzied Flame of the Outer God of Frenzy, the Bloodflame of the Formless Mother, the Ghostflame of the outer god of the Twinbird, etc.). Kinda like how yellow lighting is described as a manifestation of the love between humans and dragons. Imo that's why studies of the primeval current were forbidden, because they were an attempt to find meaning in the stars. That's also probably why some sorceries also scale with faith. Death sorcery is connected to the Twinbird and Aberrant sorcery is connected to the Formless Mother. Furthermore aberrant sorcery is explicitly described as "the sorceries most reviled by the academy"

Both sorcery and incantations involve throwing rocks at things

Elden Ring (and Dark Souls/Bloodborne, too)really doesn't lock you out of anything with your base class. Everything you can start with, you can find somewhere else too.
Even if you start as a Warrior, if you have the spell, a staff to cast it with, and have invested the levels to have the required intelligence stat, you can cast that shit. There's even a pretty easy way to respec if you change your mind entirely on what you want to play.

You can find a spell teacher under some ruins in west limgrave where you start the game. Close to it is an enemy that has a guaranteed drop of a basic glintstone staff.

Or you could just run up to Liurnia and buy the whole Astrologer kit from the merchant on the shore

Pidia's death at the hands of the puppets coincides with the death of Seluvis, the Carian's puppetmaster. This happens either when you give Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade and she leaves her tower, or when you conspire with Seluvis to betray Ranni and she kills _both_ of you simultaneously

One of my favorite theories is that the staff of loss does have glintstone, but its invisible.

TB skyen theorized in his playthrough that Rennala isnt actually completely witless. He theorized that given the symbolism of what moon phase she is depicted as in her cutscenes and based off what Ranni says, shes actually resting and trying to remake herself. Shes currently in the pose of a moon that is headed back into a full moon, after all. And it's quite interesting that her sweetings look like her. She was objectively broken by Radagon's betrayal, but she may be recovering. He also mentions in the boss designs episode before that Radagon's wolf in the academy is actually insidiously preventing the sorcerers from organizing. There are bones in that room, after all

I can't imagine the apparent death/suicide of her daughter also helped. Since that would have happened after she got her heart broken presumably

everything in elden ring is stat-based. as long as your intelligence number is high enough, you can cast all intelligence-based spells.
the reason a dedicated spellcaster is usually preferred to a mixed build is that the big badda boom spells (the moons, comet azur) take absurdly high intelligence to cast, so high that unless you focus on it almost exclusively, you're not gonna be using those spells.
however, i personally always go with a spellsword, usually using fireballs and whatever i can get my hands on for a melee. it's worked for me so far.

26:45 the classes don’t really matter super much as all they determine is your starting stats, weaponry and armour. Once you’ve chosen a class you like, it’s yours to do with as you please.
There’s nothing stopping you turning a Strength based knight into a spell slinging wizard for instance, though obv you will struggle to cast the big spells as the Intelligence requirements get really big, with Comet Azur requiring around 80 Intelligence or so.

Spellcasting isn't tied to starting class, though some starting classes start off with the stats and catalyst necessary to cast spells, as well as the spells themselves, naturally. There are a few reliable ways to learn sorcery early on, though they benefit even the Astrologer class since it only starts with two (albeit decent) sorceries; Glintstone Pebble and Glintstone Arc. Nothing really stops your average Vagabond or Samurai or whatever from casting spells, so long as they put in the work. It's just that if you know you want to be a sorcerer, why not start as one right away so you have the right stats and equipment right away? Plus it lets you min-max more efficiently, since you can't get your stats lower than their starting point even if you use the respec mechanic, which would mean if you, hypothetically, picked Prophet but changed your mind, you have stats in Faith that you just straight up don't need and COULD have had them in Intelligence if you picked Astrologer instead. With that in mind, people who have a hard time deciding like to pick Wretch because while you don't get any armor and only get a club for a weapon, you DO start at level 1 and with all stats at 10, meaning you'll have an easier time being a jack of all trades until you pick exactly what you want to focus on, not only because of your even stat spread but also because being at level 1 means your levels are gonna be the cheapest they possibly can be (since for each level you have to pay up more runes for the next).

@@TheLegitWeebsKind of. The Wretch is so named because it is, on paper, the weakest starting class with no innate advantages beyond having a totally even stat allocation that, while not poor, is still below average. Many weapons and spells have a basic stat requirement, even for a non-dominant stat, so there are many Strength weapons that require a few points in Dexterity to be used even if they don't scale with Dexterity well at all. Theoretically, this means the Wretch meets the requirements of many weapons that require 10 or less in any given stat to be used, but it also means that there are many weapons with stat requirements of 12 or 14 that the Wretch simply cannot use without investigating points into those stats, and they don't have the benefit of having an already dedicated primary stat investment to work with, so whereas one class might only need to invest 4 to 6 points into Strength or Dexterity to use a weapon, the Wretch often has to invest 10 or more the same weapon. This isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but you can really feel the frustration early on when you stumble across a weapon another class could just pick up and use right away or only require a few token levels in a given stat.
In terms of spellcasting, this is even more painful, because while the Wretch has the minimum stat requirement for all of the most basic spells, it starts with none of them, lacks a starting catalyst to cast any of them, and many of the bread and butter spells that the starting classes rely on in the early game are JUST outside of the Wretch's initial stat allocation.
On the other hand, while the Wretch has below average HP, FP, and Stamina, it beats out at least two classes in each category, although saying that the Wretch can use 1 more spell or Ash of War, take one more hit, or carry 1 extra pound of equipment versus two other classes that are deliberately designed to have lower stats in one category to boost their proficiency in their given specialization isn't really as much as you'd think.
So why pick Wretch at all if it's not even really a Jack-of-All-Trades? Well, while the Wretch might not be good at everything, they aren't really bad at anything either, or at least as bad as other classes can be, and for min-maxers or people with a specific build in mind, a freely moldable template like the Wretch that only requires a bit of foreknowledge to really capitalize on is something of a wet dream. There are some people that will argue that some starting classes are better for a specific build, but that's a given considering just how high the ceiling on some builds can go.
