  • Produced from 1940 to 1968, the Remington 513T won many a target competition and is considered one of the more accurate rifles to be mass-produced.
The example in the video is from 1946. It features a Redfield Olympic peep sight, and is in very good condition. Today we’ll take a close look at this rifle, and review 50 yard target results from the first time shooting the rifle.

Makes me think of dad. I had his but had to let it go years ago. His dad bought it new in 1939, which I believe was the first year they were made, when he finally got his WW1 veteran's bonus. My dad used it as squirrel rifle to keep 'em out of the corn and put meat on the table when they had none during the depression. Of course he put open sights on it. I learned to shoot and hunt squirrels with it as a kid in the '70s. Dad wrote Remington and got me a ten round mag to replace the one you have. Been looking for one, great find!

Did extra chores to get mine in1957 for the jr high rifle team. Later put on a 4x scope to shoot rabbits in my grandpa's vegetable garden. Still have it. Haven't shot it in years. Saw your video, took it out, tried the trigger, and for the first time really realized how good it is. Maybe I'll shoot it next week. Thanks for the memories.

The leather sling, 1907 style, is installed wrong of this rifle. The claw hooks should be on the outside as not to make contact with the wood stock. Those hooks can cause lots of stock damage. This beautiful, old rifle needs not to be damaged.

Saw one of these for sale at a local Bass Pro about 2 months ago with a period correct fixed power target scope on it similar to a Unertyl of JW Fecker on it. They wanted about 450 for it. It looked good but not as good as the one in this video. I have no need of one, but it sure was tempting. I imagine someone traded it in and didn't know what a jewel they had or was hurting for money. Was the first used one I have seen in years. If I didn't have a couple of Model 54 Anschutz with Unertyl scopes on them already, I would have bought it. I really love all the early Remington rifles up through about 1980. A 1960s or early 70s Rem 700 in 223 heavy Sporter contour barrel with an 18x Unertyl is what I shot my best group in my life with. 3/8" group at 250 yards with 52 gr match hollow point reloads my grandfather made. I was probably 8 years old and coached by my Dad. That thing had a Timney trigger you could breathe on and it would fire. I had no idea until many years later that my group was so good. Young eyes and ignorance helped me shoot that group.

I have one. Made in the late '40s.
Marked 'U.S. Property'. My dad bought it in about '59 or '60 through DCM for 5 Dollars! Doesn't have the adjustable aperture though. I have the original set of Lyman front sight posts from the '50s.
It sat in his gun cabinet for decades after shooting it a few times when he first got it, we took it to our gun club range in the early '90s and the darn thing could knock the gonads off a fly at 50 yards. Ironically, the only ammunition that didn't group well with this rifle was, you guessed it, Remington! Federal or Winchester, through the same hole all day at 50 yards! The spring in the one magazine I have for it gave out and I inserted a small slab of wood in it and just fire it single shot. After dad passed in '94 I've used it in several smallbore matches. Lotta fun. The old rifle is a conversation starter in this day and age!

Nice informative video, VERY NICE RIFLE. The old 500 series rifles are VERY ACCURATE because of the LOCK UP of the BOLT. I'm surprised that you didn't call attention to the large EXTRA LOCKING LUG 180° from the bolt handle. As far as I know ALL the ACCURATE RIFLES like Anshultz, CZ 452, Winchester 52 and others have a EXTRA LOCKING LUG on the BOLT. I LOVE MY 22lrs (pistols and rifles), I've got a few of BOTH. I recently picked up a couple of NICE 22lrs, original Browning T-Bolt and SA-22. I'm also into OLD GERMAN TRAINERS that happen to be single shots. That Remington 513T is VERY NICE but you need to see the MACHINING and attention to detail on some of these old German trainers, the CRAFTSMANSHIP is EXQUISITE. That's because MONEY WAS NOT A BIG CONCERN and LABOR was CHEAP back then. I have the ES340B which is BASICALLY a mini Mauser action 22lr and his earlier cousin is an ES340N, they are both from the early 1930's. Then I found an INTERESTING early youth model of what I was NOT TOO SURE of what it was.🤔 So with a bit of RESEARCH on the Internet I found out it was EARLY Anshultz. It DIDN'T have Anshultz anywhere on the rifle but did have BUA marked on the top of the receiver. Well it turns out that the BUA was the first letters of the 3 words BOLTE UND ANSHULTZ. It's not as REFINED as the 2 Mauser trainers but still is an interesting early production youth model 22lr made by Anshultz. Keep up the GOOD WORK getting people interested in COLLECTING AND SHOOTING 22lrs because ANYONE can shoot them without being afraid of RECOIL, NOISE AND COST of AMMO.😉👍😁

I was surprised cuz everytime I watch "vitange 22 rifle videos", I remember my dad's Winchester 52 (for me, the best rifle I ever shot) and just after starting reading this section, found your comment. I didn't know about the lock you mentioned, but what an accurate rifle that was. My dad sold it and then came back with the CZ 452 (another beauty and highly accurate rifle). I know he sold the Winchester cuz of money ( I believe so cuz we love guns, specially old guns that are not made the same anymore). Well, I just wanted to share this as I love vintage craftmanship. Now I have an old Mossberg 140k, it is very very old (I mean, dirty and rusty, but this weekend I will do some work on it). Big greetings and respect from Piura, Perú.

Dave what a great rifle. Don't give up on the BL-22. They are great rifles. I have 2 BL-22's, two Marlin 39 A Mounties and a Winchester 9422. I prefer shooting my BL-22 over all the others. It was made in 1980 and that 30 degree lever throw and the way the magazine tube locks up (different than the others) and it direct feed make it great. Just have to really break those triggers in on the new ones.

I've got a 521-T "Junior Special." It's kind of like a 513-T, but with an open patridge blade front sight, Lyman 57RS rear aperture sight, and a lighter contour 25" barrel. It still has a similar beavertail fore-end target stock with a forward sling swivel plate to adjust for proper fit when using the sling as a shooting aid. When I shoot this rifle, I adjust the sights for a "6 O'clock" hold. The resulting sight picture places the entire black circle of the target "sitting" right on top of the blade front sight. So, I'm not exactly aiming at the X-ring, but most of my bullets wind up in it, anyhow. Another way to look at it is that it is purposefully shooting "high" at the fifty yard line.
Adjusting the sights for the "6 O'Clock Hold" makes it easier for my tired old-man eyes to deal with using the aperture sight.
I used to hunt with a sporting rifle built on a Model 1903 Springfield action that had a Lyman M-48 rear aperture sight on it and used to sight that with convergent point of aim and point of impact, but I could see a whole lot better when I was 18-32 years old than I can now.

Remington made a sporter version of the 51 T. It is the 513S and they are much harder to find as few were made compared to the T version. Checkered Walnut stock of adult proportions.
Older eyes benefit from a diopter in the rear sight. Like reading glasses for your rifle.

My eye sight is also not good, I am wearing glasses since I was 12 years old and since I was 50 it had to be multifocal lenses. If I have to shoot with iron sights or peep sights, I can not shoot at all. That is why I installed a scope on my lever action. Many people complain it is not correct to have a scope on a lever action, but it is my rifle, I am shooting it and that is it. Anyway, for me it looks good.

I shot 40X match rifles on the rifle team in high school, I preferred it big time to the 513 T. But these rifles and sights were designed to shoot matches at 50'. The diameter of the front sight aperture is sized to perfectly superimpose over the bull targets used in this competition. I am not sure I would modify this rifle for you to shoot it better at longer distances, as it may diminish the value. But it is your gun.

It puts cheap ammo in the same hole @ 50 yds. Shoot squirrels in the eye off my deck. Almost boring. currently selling off some of my 50 yr. collection. Time for younger shooters to enjoy them. Min is for Minute of Angle. The 15 does not denote 15yrds. Its 15 minutes of angle. the aperature's knob adjusts in a fraction like 1/4 minute....so 4 clicks is 1 MOA. They can differ in amount. The screw you have broken is your index mark plate. You get your gun zeroed in and you loosen those small screws and adjust the "starting point" for your adjustments. So if you zero at 50' for example. You can then set the plate for that. Then you can figure out how many Minutes it takes to hit at say 50yds or 100yds or whatever. So maybe you 6.5 Minutes for 50yds and 14 Minutes for 100. Now you can just dial watching the scale on the side instead of counting individual clicks.
