I actually love how there's a variety of favorite main characters, unlike some other games, yet there's no "hate" against anything. Haha ^^

Valzy has Artina, but every time he appears it's more like "lolsardines" or "lolPrinnies". Laharl and Mao barely even get a focus on their relationships.

I hardly believe that to be an approval problem in Disgaea of all places.
Plus that ship doesn't run through every appearance. Most of the time the focus is on Mao being a creepy scientist. Not really on how Beryl sees him.

It bugs the crap out of me that they got rid of Mao's Vasa Aergun. I get that they must've wanted more of an exaggeration on his experimenting, so I could understand that with the replacing of Blast Finger, but he's the only MAIN CHARACTER with a special attack that can't really be taken seriously.
But we did get an SMT reference out of Mao in this game.

Disgaea is a grind. Character level is perhaps 4% of it. 9999 doesn't mean much.

I frankly love them all, but Laharl remaines my favorite. Not because he's the first one, but because he's silly, evil, overpowered, and enjoys being so.
Technically he may have two the other one being overlords wrath in disgaea 2 if he looses on a battle he's not suppose to loose the brat would literay blow up the planet with overlords wrath cause he lost instead of dropping a giant meteor
As for my fav. Char she's not the MC but I still love rozalin only cause she can practically give laharl a run for his money (given spoiler territory you people know it)

I've only played disgaea 3, 4, and d2 but my favorite character was Mao because of his funny/crazy personality. Laharl is a close second.

In disgaea, the MC is Adell, a human Demon Slayer. That got his whole human family and human village turned into demons except him. They were cursed to turn into demon. On his journey fight demons and finding the Overlord responsible for the curse, He wont admitted it but he fell for a demon girl name Rozlin.

Just a nice reminder why I like the Disgaea games... Never could take the time to really grind and level them up very much, though. The farthest I may have gotten was lvl 300... maybe? in Disgaea 3. But besides that, it's nice to see this series evolve, or crossover in each one (Laharl is practically mandatory, the loveable boy). I've played 1, 3, 4, and D2, watched parts of my older bro play 2, and I'll play 5 once I get a PS4, heh...

honestly when I first saw this I wondered to myself. How epic would it be if eventually in the series you can use a team consisting of the main antagonists from series (not in their god forms of course) or going off against them as only the main protagonists?
So far I've only played up to disgaea 3 (have 4 but not done with 3 yet XD), and I must say my favorite of the main characters is definitely Adell. He looks the coolest (in my opinion) and I like his story more then Laharls and Mao's. He thinks he's the last human and fights and fights with that mind never knowing that in ultimate irony he's not really human but a demon with near perfect human features.
there is 1 thing that all demons have in the disgaea universe, and that's pointy ears, adell's hair never shows his ears, maybe he knows but is in denial eh eh?
Well I guess if I ever want to look up that game, I'll now know that plot twist ahead of time.
I mean, I guess it's my fault for reading the comments on a video with him in it in a game that takes place after his, but I still didn't suspect random plot spoilers in a mere special attack compilation.
***** Actually, it's never mentioned. All that ever goes into even bringing it up is in the beginning of the game when he said that he is strangely the only human unaffected by the curse.
After that there are small hints here and there (like literally two or three) but it is never brought up or explained in the cannon story, it is all speculation by us fans.

Who here thinks that Rozalin should have been the main character of *Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories* rather than Adell?
Because she was related to another Overlord (well, she was adopted) like the others (except probably Valvatorez)... and honestly, a think we all agree that there should at least be one main character in this series that was a girl.
mmmm meh. Im in the same boat as you with having a main female character for a disgaea game, but I felt in Disgaea 2, that she was just as equally a main character as Adell was.
Rozalin wasn't adopted, she IS overlord Zenon. (That's why summoning summoned her and not fake Zenon)

Laharl all life. He's badass, got the best attacks, and he's the only one to have actually defeated Baal in the storyline.
Second, Valvatorez, third Adell, and Mao last ( I like him, but I think he's the weakest in comparison).
well, the way i've heard it, laharls victory over baal is the only one the was officaly "canonized" by being mentioned in a later game.
the other characters might have also defeated him in storyline, it's just isn't offically confirmed yet
I know, that's why I said that. Until they confirm other winners against the Tyrant, I'll say he was the only one who defeated him.

Darkos Uxie it's a bit of a late reply but a month or so ago i defeated baal in the disgaea 3 post game. it seams kimda silly to me that you consider laharl's fight with baal canon because it was mentioned in the disgaea 3 fight, but the disgaea 3 fight in which it was mentioned, is still considered non-canon. logic hole?
tcoren1 It's mentioned in Disgaea 3 and Makai Kingdom. Nobody mentioned the Disgaea 3 Baal fight because:
1) I don't think it was a complete victory, after the fight Baal it's still healthy and runs away.
2) Baal was in a Eyngi ( or how the hell do you spell that) body, so it wasn't at full strenght. And why was it possessing that shroom's body? Because it's real body was destroyed during the fight with Laharl. Baal's spirit flew away and posessed Zetta's body, then Zetta forced it to leave, and it came in Disgaea 3 and posessed the shroom.
As you can see, there's no logic hole.
I have only played up to Disgaea 2: DHD, that new vulcan blaze was AMAZING!

Look here, Adell likes fists because he is CORRECT! If the others used fists they would have access to Big Bang, which is not only a great farming skill, it's a phenomenal skill in general.

I really do like Mao's new 1st and 3rd unique specials in Disgaea 4, and you can go ahead and call this nitpicking, but he just doesn't seem...right with them. Sure, they fit his personality, but they just seem off to me. I'll admit to bias toward his original set since they got me through some TOUGH spots, but I can't be the only one who feels the same, right?

Never played this. But I am here watching and couldn't stop laughing at the over the top moves and extremely exagerated status parameters.
+talles lima Those aren't exaggerated, you start with pretty reasonable stats, reaching these stats is perfectly plausible(in about 185,000 levels via the Reincarnate System), the over the top moves are over the top though, reaching ridiculous numbers is sorta the name of the postgame, with things like Tyrant Overlord Baal packing absurd stats, and things like Insta Kill PASSIVES, no seriously, in Disgaea 2, if a character fails to meet certain stats, the moment you bring them out against Baal, they die, no saving throw, no nothing, yes, THEY DIE ON YOUR TURN, its as ridiculous as it seems, but he is the uberest boss in the game, but for the normal plot you will probably only reach like Lv60-80 on your team, maybe 100+ if you power grind, but you definitely aren't cracking the 1000+ Mark until postgame

The Best Disgaea for me is Disgaea 1 that's why I love how they made a sequel to it, I just hate Sicily but it's good that the main character is Laharl again. hahaha.

I can't judge Mao, as I didn't yet play disgaea 3. As for the others. Valzy is too much obsessed with those disgusiting sardines, and Adell is just not my style :P
That leaves Larharl. I like his sarcasm, and still the strong point in Disgaea was that you can see so easily straight through him and that it's soon very clear that he's not as evil he thinks he is. Well his constant silly laugh might be a bit of a downside.

TheRealTricky mao claims to be an evil genius... as a scientist he is... but he is also retarded (well the funny way.. you know how crazy those worlds)
he is a son of an demon overlord(and was about to be one) but he is secretly obsessed with heroes... which is why a side plot of the whole game is about him accepting that he actually like heroes, and eventually have a best friend who is a hero (well kinda a best friend)
ooh also his skills in the disgaea 3 was less flashy but more badass looking

alain gaudreault Imagine how much of your life you'd have to waste to get to level 1000? Level 100 in most RPGs takes like 99-200 hours... but in Disgaea, you also have way more characters
Imagine leveling up a team of 30 people just to level 1000
Then also imagine that you reincarnate them back to level 1 a ton of times so they get better stats
Now imagine all of the sex, money, and life you could enjoy instead
+THEGREATMAX Actually, abusing the best maps, building a team to 9999 can take less then an hour, and doing it multiple times can be quick as well

I think that NIS probably wanted to try something different with Adell in Disgaea 2, but later realized that swords are the preferred weapon type of most Disgaea players, so they stuck with swords for the MCs from then on. Actually though, in Disgaea HOD Laharl is just as skilled with fist weapons, spears, and bows, as he is with swords, (they're all rank A), but in Disgaea D2, while swords and fist weapons are still rank A, Laharl's spear and bow weapon rank have been reduced to rank B...
