  • The Siege of Bastogne was an engagement between American and German forces at the Belgian town of Bastogne, as part of the larger Battle of the Bulge. The goal of the German offensive was the harbor at Antwerp. In order to reach it before the Allies could regroup and bring their superior air power to bear, German mechanized forces had to seize the roadways through eastern Belgium. Because all seven main roads in the Ardennes mountain range converged on the small town of Bastogne, control of its crossroads was vital to the German attack. The siege lasted from 20--27 December when the besieged American forces were relieved by elements of General George Patton's 3rd Arrmy

So was my dad 101st. Airborne Screaming Eagles. He was also one of the " Battered Bastards Of BASTOGNE " . He passed 6 years ago he would be 104 today. Never really opened up about the war till his mid 80s.Sometimes he would try to talk about things he had been a part of and would just stop and talk about something else but after he turned 80 he started to tell me things that just made ya wounder how in the Hell did they hold out that long and then make it out of there and make it home. "God Bless The Airborne"

@@F_ckAllTrumpVoters Without American supplies the war would have been won by Germany and we would all be hailing the swastika. Russia would not have lasted a year without American supplies and the British would not have been able to have an counter offensive.
I don't say this to take away from anyone's stories but it's a lot more than just fighting of the front lines.

As an American soldier, I thank you for this video and I want to tell you not to apologize for your ancestors. All nations have people in their past who made egregious mistakes or frankly did evil, so let's move on from here and now. Let us also remember that the average young of soldier of the Wehrmacht was not that different from the American GI--they were serving their country in the only way that they knew.

I really like this video and as a German let me join you in your appreciation of the American soldier's sacrifice and what it still means to me today - I can bring up my children in a free Europe and their legacy reminds me every day that freedom requires some sort of sacrifice from time to time. We cannot change history but I think if we as Germans learned something from the past we should be embassadors of freedom and human rights.

My grandfather fought at Bastogne with the 101st. He was killed in the Vietnam war. Major Homer L. Pease. I don't know what regiment he fought with I never got to meet him. He was definitely in one of those foxholes somewhere in Bastogne. Thanx again for the video!! People like you deserve peaceful lives

    Wow, surprise ending.
Let me say this: as a Canadian with Scottish ancestry, my favourite European country to visit is Germany, no question.
Hard-working, straight-up, creative, inventive, and industrious people who are always hospitable, accommodating and love to have a good time. Scenic place with great blend of architecture, both past and present. Cleanest, most organized country I've ever visited, the backbone and conscience of the EU.
I have one uncle buried in France from the First World War and another uncle buried south of Munich from the Second War.
    What's past is past.

I was lucky and fortunate enough to live and serve in the USAF in West Germany during the late 70s and the early 80s, I have to agree with you 100% on your evaluation of the Good German People and their BEAUTIFUL country. You said all I could say and a bit more. I enjoyed going to a Gasthof drink some excellent Bier and eat some very tasty food on a cold winters night, sit around with some older German gentlemen and hear their war stories and their sense of humor bullshit stories. Great enjoyable memories! Wish I could have been able to retire and live my last days in Germany. I find it strange that the country we wanted to destroy back then, because of our so called allies wanted them to be destroyed, turned out to be our best ally today. I believe we can count on the German people better than the Russians, French and even the British.

I was stationed in Germany and found the people hard working, honest, and very decent. If anything, Germany is an example of how a small number of people (the Nazi) can lead decent people down a path they would never expect and never agree to if given the choice. Thank you for the video and tribute to those who liberated Europe.

Thank you for this special video!
You never have to apologize for your ancestors, good or bad!
You don't get to pick from who you are a son or daughter.
The best way to get away from any potential embarrassment or guilt is to live YOUR life the right way.
Be a good person and DO good!
    Build, don't break.
Speak and act positive, not negative.
Never follow big crowds and let them determine what you do and think.
Think for yourself; God gave you a brain. Use it.
But always stand for real human values, helping the world become a better place.
And learn lessons from human history.
You see? You guys did learn those lessons; that's what this video is about!
    Thank you. God bless!

I took a tour from Brussels to Bastone and Leis -the American Cemetery for fallen heroes (thank you to Belgium for your care), the museum and monument, then to Jacks Woods in the Ardenne where the 101st dug in. All I could think is that I owe a debt I cannot repay to people I never met. It was an incredible tour and one I not only will never forget, but one that humbled me beyond words. The Belgium people are wonderful stewards of our heroes. It was incredible to have someone hear you speak English ( I was speaking to a U of Miami tourist walking past the outdoor cafe) and have a Belgium ask if your American only to say thank you....and of course god bless our heroes.

    My dear friend,
your video is a beautiful tribute to those who gave their lives for the ideal of a better world.
I confess that moved me deeply to see these images so striking.
Produce something requires sensibildiade rare nowadays.
Congratulations. I'm doing my research for a trip I intend to take to local World War II, from Normandy, through the Netherlands, Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge and his video is just the most fantastic thing I've seen on the subject.
Also your video inspired me, hopefully I can produce something as sensational as you did.
    Congratulations. Greetings.
    Mein lieber Freund,
Ihr Video ist eine schöne Hommage an diejenigen, die ihr Leben für das Ideal einer besseren Welt gab.
Ich gestehe, dass mich tief bewegt, diese Bilder so auffallend zu sehen.
Produzieren erfordert etwas sensibildiade selten heutzutage.

Did anyone take notice on one memorial that fund were donated by Mr and Mrs. Tom Hanks, There are still some decent types left in Hollywood and we need to support them. Tom was hired to do a movie. He didn't have to donate a sizable amount for a memorial as indicated by the fact that his name is above all the rest.

Awesome video... I really enjoyed it..
This summer on June 1st were taking a family vacation to Europe for 21 days to enjoy all the beautiful places..more importantly, to do our best retracing my grandfathers foot steps during WW2...
    He was a paratrooper 101st airborne / 506th / C,D company / 3rd,1st battalions/carried a BAR throughout the war.
Couple of questions for anyone that has knowledge about these museums/monuments.
    1. Do the airborne museums/monuments list all Divisions/company's/soldiers names that fought in this battle?
Or just the soldiers that paid the ultimate price?
Any recommendations for a certain your guide service?
Since I have his army discharge papers I'm assuming it should make it easy to look him up at the airborne museums or monuments?
Since I have his uniforms, medals does anyone think Id regret not bring it with us?
I appreciate the help.. Thank you

As a combat paratrooper veteran (3/506th. Inf. (Currahees)101st. Airborne Division 'Screaming Eagles') Vietnam/Cambodia I wish to thank you for this presentation, it is deeply appreciated. As for your apology at the end, there need be none. Instead, I would say history should be a lesson AND WARNING of what happens when a people follow the dictates of a Godless, perverted, hate-filled ideology instead of the wisdom, grace, and PEACE of Jesus Christ. All I would ask is that you pray for the American people since we currently have such a demonic ideology on the rise in the Democratic Party. Please pray for us, and I will pray for you. God bless and Currahee!!!

I watched this this morning and thought...... What a same the respect that these guys earned for them selves and the US is being destroyed by a President that cares for nothing or anyone that does not think he is "THE GREATEST" He does not have the same morel commitment and dedication to duty that they had

Army, Air Force, Navy or Marines, it doesn't really matter. What it comes down to is the man or woman standing by your side when you need them. Something many civilians don't really understand. I learned that the hard way after serving 21 years in the military.

Wow.....I'm speechless. Great video, and I hope to visit there when we go to Germany next spring. It would be amazing to be there, yet somber.
Would we be able to see most everything in 1 day, or should we take longer? I really history and especially that era. I don't want to feel rushed and want to see as much as I can.
Thanks in advance for your response, and once again......great video!

The soundtrack to this movie is beautiful. My 101st Airborne father was with the 502nd PIR, Reg. Hq. as a radio communicator who served under Col. Cole, Col. Michaelis and Col. Chappuis. They were The Greatest Generation. God Bless All of our soldiers, past, present and future....
