Here's something I noticed when I listened to Jiaoqiu voice lines. Chat: Dietary Restrictions: “There are four things I won't eat: I don't eat plain soup because it's boring; I don't eat anything lacking spice because it's uninteresting; **I don't eat yuanyang hot pot because it's impure**; and I don't eat coriander, because it's bad for the stomach. But of course, if someone else is treating me to a meal, I can make an exception.” If you aren't familiar with yuangyang hot pot, the form of the pot is really similar to the yin-yang form. Moreover one half of the pot is usually a bright red because there is a lot of spice in it (= the yin) while the other half has more of a white/yellowish color (= the yang). But what is really interesting imo is that the “yin-yang symbols” on his clothes are probably more a reference to the yuangyang hot pot, especially since they are red and white. So why would Jiaoqiu have these on his clothes? I think Jiaoqiu may consider himself impure. He's obviously depressed and doesn't have a high opinion of himself, at least. And I think this “mini theory” would go well with yours about his displaced core. I also think this dichotomy in the yuangyang hot pot (and the yin-yang we can associate with) is a represention of his inner turmoil. I think there is a part of him that is still “innocent” (I don't like the word “pure”), that still believes and hopes, while another is exhausted and thus inclined to do what would be considered “evils deeds” if it means ending this “meaningless cycle” in which he feels trapped. To end this already too long comment, I believe that the fact that he calls the yuangyang/yin-yang impure is because he doesn't believe in a manichean world. His beliefs don't align anymore with those of the Xianzhou Alliance; Yaoshi and THEIR abominations as the dark, bad, side (the yin) and Lan and THEIR followers as the white, good, side (the yang). I think his way of seeing the world his more nuanced and he would probably like for the “two halfs to be reunited”.
i agree that he might end up doing a certain forbidden research because of the things he himself said in the story and in his promotional animation. It was made clear that he values life more than anything, it devastates him when soldiers he saved would launch themselves back into a warfare, he promised that no matter what he will cure general feixiao and save her, he also stated himself that he doesn't believe in ideals of the xianzhou of glory and honor and that life is way more valuable. Everything we know about him says that he would be willing to break any rules and go for underhanded or deemed despicable tactics if it means that he would be able to save a life.
Doesn't he directly say he endeavors to study the most terrible poisons in order to make the strongest medicine? Which is what he wants from Hoolay. I'm really excited for 2.5
I remember reading that Jiaoqiu has ageusia (loss of taste), which Acheron also has developed. It's common for victims of extreme trauma to develop ageusia (Dimitri from Fire Emblem Three Houses would be another popular example), but I wonder if that could be another tie to Nihility? Maybe characters heavily influenced by or in association with Nihility commonly suffer from ageusia.
His line "how does a healer heal himself?" Instantly reminded me of Carl Jungs "Wounded Healer" which to put it simply its a phenomenon where a person that has experience some psychological truama is able to "heal" other. I think jioqui's character is based in part on this concept. Maybe he's willing to go through what feixiao has gone through in order to heal her but then how'll he heal himself?

I'm STRONGLY subscribed to the Self-Annihilator Jiaoqiu theory (probably cause I love Acheron so much and she is my main and now I have him and my brain just keeps going instead of shutting up) and what you said about his core is very interesting and adds some nuance to it as well as the Hunt and Abundance paths relation to Nihility. Really curios of ur opinion on the Self-Annihilator Jiaoqiu theory👀

Bailu is drinking milk. Sushang is drinking OJ. Jiaoqiu is drinking wine. So who is the other wine glass for? Moza maybe 🤔? FYI Sushang is his adopted niece, so no way he'd feed her Borison meat. Bailu saved Sushang when she got crushed by Yunli so he won't feed her Borison meat either. In Asian lore Fox spirits are kind and protective towards thier benefactors. However they will seek revenge against those who wronged them. Hence the scenes where Jiaoqiu is hunting them down.
The big question: Will hsr writers do something with these potential characters, or will they be forgotten....? :/ There is thread on twitter about Jiaoqiu is being a self-annihilator - that thread is well alined with your theory.
Well Hoyo has shown to develope characters after their original stories ended. Wardance was an amazing development for Luca and partially all of Belobog. Companion quests also often involve more than the companion character, thus giving deeper development. We were just introduced to Feixiao and Jiaoqiu and they had their spotlight for now, so it might be a bit before we revisit their stories, but I am sure we will revisit them.
I really love how your videos touch on philosophical themes and show that Hoyo really uses real culture and traditions to build his characters and the lore of the world
So I have thought of the lightcone “Cornucopia” when watching your video The second part of its description states: "Life is the existence of order beyond a certain threshold. Its birth is the final answer to the silent universe, declaring the end to the era of old chaos." Replace the words: “Life” to “Abundance” “silent universe” to “Nihility” The reason why for replacing the word silent universe with nihility it is because that when thinking nihility (nothingness) I would think of an empty “space” (no quantum happening at a smallest scale, no life, no entropy just nothing) and empty “space” would be a fitting for a silent universe (as in silent meaning no disturbances and entropy, life, galaxies, etc. are technically disturbances) In my opinion, I would think that the abundace would win against the nihility (as evident with dan shu becoming the celestials) [Take everything here with a HEAVY grain of salt]
I think the main problem with a game like this is that any character who is playable is not going to do something overly evil. At most they would be gray like SW, Kafka and Jade. It would be great if Jiaoqiu did something like the Sedition of IL and we had to fight him but he won't since he is playable and he must be on at least neutral terms with TB for it to work. Whatever he does it won't be grand or overly immoral. The only way we can have those sort of characters would be having true villians like Hoolay and Phantliya or people who are beyond saving like Cocolia.
Love the Hannibal references in his trailer, I thought it was a nice and funny treat. "Surgeon? Chef? A grand sense of performance in his medical and culinary practices? Let's add potential cannibal in there for fun!". Amazing work as always, can't wait to see the story unfold.

But if Yaoshi is older than Lan, and Sin Thirsters are creatures that predate the ascension of Yaoshi, how would the Hunt/Abundance/Nihility connection be drawn with Sin Thirsters as the commonality? More specifically my question is while on one hand it’s obvious the hunt followers Acheron meets became Sin Thirsters grasping and unwilling to let go of their convictions, there’s no real proof that only hunt followers become Sin Thirsters right?
If I remember correctly, sin thirsters are essentially beings who either don’t know to pass on due to their conviction or their conviction is so strong they refuse to pass on. Vague memories but it’s a lot broader than sin thirsters being only of galaxy rangers

The Abundance is older than the Hunt. Lan was a Xianshou native that fused with a Heliobus and hated The Abundance.
