Please show these when they dry! I love these colors, too. Ocean is life! Just because an experiment doesn't work out as planned, it's not necessarily a fail. You learn things and maybe it has an interesting effect that you want in another piece. You just learn that doing this does not produce that! (Please don't be disappointed!) the colors are just beautiful together
Well I wanted to see the coasters after they set up completely and what they did after they started drying. I loved the colors and the white looked like fierce white storm clouds. I loved them and wanted to see the finished product.

Julie if you put a line of clear under or in front of your white you will get much better cells and lacing even in a coaster. Just Resin Titanium White or Castin Craft with alcohol ink works well too. If all else fails, spray some isopropyl on it :)

Love these colors! I like the clouds on the first one.
I do waves and the last one CP was the best. It just needs a couple of drops of white alcohol ink. Then after you have heated your wave how you want it. Hit it with a torch for 1 second, then watch them change.
I know you have used lots of Castin Craft. It gives great waves done like above too. I don’t know what brand I use but it isn’t any of those. My husband bought it and I have never looked. 🌷

The blues are gorgeous!! I have found the opaque white by castin craftin makes the best cells for ocean waves and it layers beautifully. I bought mine on Amazon. I think there are several places to purchase it as I know a lot of countries can’t get certain brands from Amazon. Anyway, I would love to see these up close as well as finished!! Love your experiments!!

Experimenting is fun...😄. Yeah, I saw a video on cells in resin, and the depth of the resin makes a big difference. Deeper resin you get more blending, and the resin snaps back to the center more. A very thin layer of resin allows you to get lacing that will stay more as it is after you’ve blown it out with the heat gun. Also, looked like all but the first coaster gave some good cells, but most I’ve seen (for waves specifically) used casting craft and white alcohol ink, so you might want to try with that as well ❤️

Thank you Julie for tackling this subject. I am hoping this information will be helpful for anyone that is working with resin and wanting cells, since I have quite a bit of experience with this. First, to get cells, it is all about the ingredients in the whites and blacks pastes (or other colors) that are known to produce cells. Cells are created through differences in density (both in resin art and acrylic pouring). These different densities cause separations that form the cells. Some of the pastes like what Julie is using here are either intended to be a) on top of your colors and will create cells as they are blown or swiped over the bottom colors, or b) should be on the bottom or side to allow you to blow or swipe your colors on top of them, and some of them also will work both ways. Stone Coat Countertops (US) used to sell base tints, and you could get cells whether it was on the bottom or top, but it usually worked best if it was on the bottom. Also, more recently, it is coming out that the oil based paints that were used in these base tints or sold for use for this reason (if oil based paint) are causing yellowing (lighter colors and whites) in the resin. So, I would be cautious about using something like that.
It cells better when you blow it across the top from the side rather than blowing from above. When you blow from above, it forces the white down into the blue resin it's sitting on.
Could maybe also have something to do with the resin type? Just a wild thought. I liked this, and I think they're pretty on their own! Love this colors!

I did two resin paintings, one using acrylic paints and the other mica powders, but both using a white paste. The white made fantastic cells and lacing over the acrylics, but hardly any over the mica powders.
Really pretty. Waiting to see them finished.

I know this is an old video and my comment is way too late to matter but I just wanted to say I am really disappointed you didn't show these unmolded. I know they did not turn out as far as the experiment you were doing goes but the result was (or could have been) an absolutely gorgeous set of coasters. A top coat of clear and they would have been breathtaking. Sorry you felt the effort was wasted but as Bob Ross used to say they were a "happy accident"

i have seen alot do it on there made coasters or like the ones u get that are made on mdf ect and add this to the top looks good
They looked like pretty clouds to me. That Marine blue is to die for.
I like the one on your left (first pass). It looked like a snow covered mountain and its reflection in a body of water. The one on your right looks like a cloud. Of course it’s from the viewers angle that I speak. Yes, every experiment has its merit.
I feel as if the first blowing of the white across the blue should have been longer. These colors are indeed beautiful. Wet they look like JellyFish. Almost Iridescent and glowing. I would love to see them dry, and be able to see the depth of the wave-like colors inside. Good Video!

I was going to get the silicone baking sheets but then I found a silicone pet mat at Kmart that has a lip all the way around it so went with that instead in case of spills. They also had some shaped ones that could be fun for trinket trays

Whenever I have a mold that’s only half full but I really like the design, I do a flood coat after I wait about 3 to 4 hours and then pour a clearcoat to fill up the mold. I find it also intensifies the colors

I found the angle white to be the best among these 4 for waves, you only need such a small line of the white, other wise it will sink on you , that was my experience anyway. Love the blues. 😊

I use the just4you supreme white and I find it gives me some nice lacing effects. I haven't tried any of the other brands you used. When I make ocean coasters ( I make quite a lot as they seem very poor ) I let the blues cure up first and then add my waves 😀

I’m wondering what the difference of the paste is compared to a resin dye? I get beautiful lacing with resin dyes and havent branches out to pastes yet 🤔
The resin is way to thic . I f your resin is thinner it works better. Ones you mixed your resin don't waight but start wright away. If your resin is more fluid it works better. It doesn't matter if it is a coaster or a board.

Isn't white heavier so it drops through the resin? What if you waited until coasters were dry enough to make waves on top then a clear coat?

you could spray silicone on your tool, would help with cells and help keep the resin from sticking as much. I think for coasters you gotta try an island beach type thing since everything comes into the center.. there's an idea! Ring the outside in blue and white and puddle your colors in like usual, with a sandy center... the white would come in over everything!

There are some basic rules when dealing with resin, everyone knows, if you are going to make a white pigment comparison, at least if you add white to such a thick resin layer, it will be a miracle to create waves. In my opinion, do not alienate the people who will watch these kinds of experiments from this business and brands.
