I actually got Hi-Fi Rush as a part of May's Humble Bundle! And just a couple of days after that I read about Tango being shutdown. I'm hoping for the silver lining: from all the layoffs and studio closures, creative people will still create, form small indie type studios, and still release great games. Maybe more will go the Kickstarter route. Tech is so boom and bust, these cycles are painful for sure :( I still remember when EA bought Westwood and shut down "Earth & Beyond," which was the first MMORPG that I really got hooked on and loved.
Thanks Jimmy. I'm starting to get less optimistic on the "silver lining" coming out of this. I truly think there may be a crash of some sort...at least in the console space. The industry may need a reset to fully adjust to the changing times and culture. This transition period from the old ways to the new ways is just too painful.
You said it TTG, these are dark times indeed. You know I have strong ties with Arkane Austin and that shuttering is hitting me particularly hard. Some of the most talented developers I know, and friends, who have made some of my favorite games. Dishonored. Prey. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. I was so looking forward to seeing them make another deep immersive sim instead of a live service title that's outside of their wheelhouse. At least Arkane Lyon survived. And Tango Gameworks shutdown is completely inexplicable; their last title was a slam dunk success, not a failure (forced or otherwise...). W.T.F.
Yeah I thought of you with Arkane Austin's closure. Tango Gameworks has had some of the best output this gen thus far and like I mentioned, I loved Ghostwire Tokyo as well. It seems that risk taking is literally getting punished. But then again, nobody is safe when even Insomniac gets layoffs right after shipping Spiderman 2. I'm really nervous for Ninja Theory with the release of Hellblade 2. That game may be great but doubtful it's going to set the world on fire in terms of sales.
