Hi Alison! I just want to say thank you for inspiring me always. I am now the assistant pastry chef at a restaurant and I am literally living my dream. This cake looks so amazing and our house Carrot Cake has toasted coconut around the edges so watching you decorate such a stunning cake at home was SO satisfying! Love to you always!!!🧡
This instantly took me back to my childhood and the book "Old Witch and the Polka-Dot Ribbon." In the book, snooty Mrs. Butterbean enters a coconut cake into the Oldwick cake contest, and is overheard telling her chauffeur that a famous baker made the cake for her. The illustration is your cake precisely, and I think we've solved the mystery of who that "famous baker" is. Your cake looks amazing, and I will definitely be making it soon (though I will watch out for witches wanting to stuff it under their hats!).
Thanks for the recipe!! Can’t wait to try it. We just made your old fashioned strawberry cake this afternoon and your salmon with lemon and capers for dinner. My whole family loves your recipes!!
I would eat this whole cake. Wow Alison. I enjoy all of your videos, but this cake is truly beautiful and I would love to make this for a holiday! I hope I have a reason to create it. It was just gorgeous.
I love your attitude and that you don’t give a f* if you lose followers because of your endorsement. You are doing what is right, no matter the fallout (if any). I’m Canadian and the world is watching in horror about what is happening to your country
I do not even like coconut cake and I will never make this but in my heart this looks so good and fluffy I cannot resist watching and feeling so relaxed lol
I lightly blitz the coconut in a food processor before adding to the batter so the texture is more even and it cuts better. Agree that the cake is best refrigerated for serving
I'm loving this video. It reminded me of Danish coconut "dream cake", i.e. "drommekage" which I eat from my Danish workplace's cafeteria whenever the 3pm craving strikes. Give it a try sometime. This video also reminded me of Pittsburgh's Pranl's burnt almond torte. The two American ones might be in commeptition for my next birthday cake ;-)
This is my first time here, and I think you are delightful. The cake looks scrumptious and I would love a slice. (P.S. We've already voted for Kamala by mail (CA). Your endorsement was gutsy and wonderful!
I know Alison looks bummed that it burned, but honestly I hope she knows that for us home cooks who toil to do the things she and others demonstrate in the kitchen, knowing that they burn things too is a real motivator to keep trying ourselves and not to get too down when we make a mess or things go awry. I really really appreciate when tv cooks and chefs show the reality of their efforts and not the edited perfect final cut
We don't really have shredded coconut in the UK. Shops stock desiccated or coconut flakes. Neither sweetened. I'm guessing desiccated would be the best substitute for inside the batter? Thanks!
My mum loves coconut, but she‘s allergic to eggs and I would love to make this for her! Can you recommend a replacement for eggs? (I live outside of America so “egg replacer” in the supermarket is not a thing.)
You can use a flax or chia seed egg. Just mix either 1 tablespoon (15 grams) of ground flax seeds or whole chia seed with 2.5 tablespoons (38 grams) of water and let it sit for a few minutes until it has thickened. (This recipie replaces 1 egg, so double, triple, or quadruple it if the recipe calls for two, three or four eggs)
You have totally hit your stride! Congratulations 🎊 I have no interest in dessert or baking (that’s why god made bakers) but because you are so charming and remind me of the fabulous women in Columbia grad school way back in the day. Go Kamala!!! And thanks for being my yr friend.
I wish someone could come up with a legit copycat recipe for the Christmas Cake from the Bubble Room, Sanibel Island. That's a crazy, ridiculously good coconut/vanilla/almond cake.
This recipe looks so good! Unfortunately, my husband hates coconut. However, I am thinking about halting the recipe to make the cake for myself.😬 Is that selfish? Idk. I cannot wait for your 2024 thanksgiving video (if you make one).
Hi Alison! Are those scrapers you use for baking, or are they meant for something else but you use them for baking anyway? I'm asking because they look handy.
They are so handy! You can use them to pick up cut vegetables or other ingredients that are on your cutting board or counter top, use them to scrape out mixing bowls, and even for cleaning up your work surface when you’re done cooking/baking! I have tons of them in my baking drawer. I even have one by my sink to scrape out baked on messes ☺️
@@julietrodriguezart I got mine from a few places, but I got some (the majority of) from Amazon. I also found some in my town at a local chef shop. I do chocolate work and I got my scraper from the hardware store. It’s basically a grouting tool. And make sure that it is safe to use with food

Hi Alison, love the growth and fresh things you share with us, but I just have a teenie tiny feedback as a person who's having a hard time focusing on things 99% of the time. One difference with this new format, is the addition of a background elevator style music that's really taking me out. It's really hard also to focus on the instructions, the music signals you to "it's a montage" but it's actually not. Also with the jump cuts and hyperfocused shots..we see bowls and tools, and part of the food. and the change of camera style with the shaky effect, the quick zoom and upper torso with no hands shots. :) In my little opinion as a long time fan and follower since half a decade maybe. It's just hard to follow these new videos. How do you say it in a nice but constructive way. uhm. theyre just very hard to focus on. Again, apologies for the unsolicited feedback. Love you so much Virgo queen! but if people get mad, and more people like this style..I will delete this, I promise.
Yeah, the videos used to actually help understand how the recipe comes together and now they just feel like a commercial or something. I'm glad Alison is so happy, but this bougie new aesthetic just isn't for me. :(
for those of us who are unable to not tinker with recipes - where we thinking we could incorporate some passionfruit curd/puree per say lol? instead of the cream cheese between layers?
I actually did a coconut and passion fruit cake in culinary school (not this exact cake of course) this was in like 2011. But I recommend going with the curd and making it fairly thick and icing between the layers. My first run I didnt have the thickest of curds and didn’t ice between so i didn’t get the most defined layers because the curd started soaking into the cake some (still absolutely delicious) but I didn’t have as defined of a layer of curd as I had hoped on that run… Also after that fix, and icing the whole cake I took fresh passion fruit and put it over and let it run down almost like a pavlova. But 100% recommend going for it! Best of luck!
Has anyone tried this with 1/2 tsp vanilla extract and 1/2 tsp coconut extract, or 1 tsp coconut extract instead of vanilla? If so, did it turn out too coconutty, or taste weird?
I’m v excited to make this cake! But I’m unsure why you’re pouring your ingredients into a measuring cup before pouring it into a separate bowl to measure it on a scale…? Seems a bit extra, like, that’s so many bowls. Lol.
