Fun fact for you, we used to live in Mount Morris New y0rk right around the corner from the building, old church, where Lamplighter is. You can take a little tour of the book binding area. They have the huge old organ hollowed out where they do the recording for audio books. Another building next door holds the store. We were so close we could walk. My husband almost got a job there but we instead did foreign missions for a bit.

My grandmother is a reader. She would send me books all the time. I still have them but can't get my kids to read them. Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and some Bobbsey Twins. Love your shelves!

If you like this type of nature journal you might like funschooling journals and often you can buy one book in pdf format and print it for each kid

Thanks for showing what is on your bookshelves. I too have so many books. We have a similar taste in books! I love the lamplighter books and the Mcguffey readers (we use both original and revised), I also love generations classics that they put out too. To give a little balance, I also buy some of the sonlight booklist books. I have the Christian Heroes for little kids right now which we love. I want to try the then and now series too. I have 6 kids, only 3 still being homeschooled (the others are now adults) and they are pretty young - grades 1-4.

I love how you have bookshelves everywhere, what a great use of space! Also, yes to the Lamp Lighter books. We have a few of theirs and a number of their audiobooks which are so well done. The Christian Heroes Then and Now series are one of absolute my favorites.

We have those nature journals!! They're amazing! I found a couple of used ones that barely had any markings, on eBay a couple of years ago and we just recently pulled them out. We have so many of the same books. I love how you used the space over your windows for bookshelves!

Out of all the homeschool moms I watch on here, I think I identify with you the most. I was homeschooled, and we're a homeschooling family with five children. The longer I homeschool my own children, the more I realize that less is most often more. I was homeschooled using a rigorous workbook method, but I learned far more from living life and loving to read books on a variety of topics. My kids and I had gotten burned out from one workbook after another, so we're trying to transition to more read alouds, educational videos, etc. Your homeschooling videos have been some of my very favorites. Can't wait for the next one! Oh, and your children would LOVE the "Happy Hollisters" series of books. They are mysteries, solved by a family with five children and their beloved collie.

We will check out the Happy Hollisters! Sounds like it would become a favorite.

Hahah hey look the read aloud video! So nice to see what you’ve enjoyed. We are only 3 years in to homeschooling so we have many readers ahead of us. I’ll have to check out the Christian hero’s books. I THINK I may have seen them somewhere before...

I really look forward to being able to get back to the library. I don't tend to own a lot of books (I don't really like re-reading and I have 1 kiddo so I don't read again to a young set of kids) so I am feeling the weight of the library being closed. That said today our library is giving away free books outside.. you better believe I will be there w/ bells on ;-) I loved seeing how you have creatively stored your books!

This is just what I needed as we are finishing up most of our books while at home. Would love a video in the future of your tried and true favorite children's books for younger and older children. I too cling to the whole children's books and struggle to find them.

We enjoy the Christian Heroes Then and Now too. The same authors write Heroes of History also. If you ever see any Carl Sommer books they are really good for younger kids. Lamplightler books are great too. My 8 yr old son enjoys reading the Wally McDougal book series. Red Rock Mystery series has been a favorite and my older kids have enjoyed the kid's Left Behind series also the Mandie series and Elsie Dinsmore.

The Nature Connection by Clare Leslie is a great nature journal/workbook option. It's hardback and easy to use. I don't have little kid's books anymore (I did keep Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day) but I have a lot of classics and some young adult books, several Agatha Christies and different Christian fiction writers. The two favorites that I have are called Hungry Planet and Material World (non-fiction). They're full of pictures of other cultures and what they eat and the things they own. It's just great, big, coffee table size books that are great to read through and look at. I've always been an avid reader and at least 3 of my 6 children are also. They all enjoy reading, but just different things. I would like to have the whole Little House on the Prairie series. I'd also like to have all of Grace Livingston Hill books. I have some of her stories. Thanks for sharing your books. Made my book-loving heart happy!

Have you guys read the All of a kind family series? I would say it was similar to the Betsy Tacy series and Happy Little Family series. My eight year old loved it. Also, she loves the books by Wendy Dunham, My name is River and Hope girl. She hated reading and now that we share read she has devoured these series.
