If you're looking for an affordable place to rent in Canada, you may want to avoid Victoria. According to a new report the city is the most expensive in the country when it comes to renting a one-bedroom or two-bedroom condo.
The report looked at data from major Canadian cities and found that the average monthly rent for a one-bedroom condo in Victoria is $2,200. For a two-bedroom condo, the average rent is even higher at $2,700.
To put those numbers into perspective, the average monthly rent for a one-bedroom condo in Toronto is $2,100 - just $100 less than what you'd pay in Victoria. And in Vancouver, the average monthly rent for a one-bedroom condo is $2,150.
So why is Victoria so expensive? The report points to a number of factors, including a lack of rental supply and strong demand from both local residents and tourists.
If you're looking for a more affordable place to rent in Canada, the report suggests checking out cities like Ottawa, Montreal, or Halifax. In Ottawa, the average monthly rent for a one-bedroom condo is just $1,600. And in Halifax, it's even lower at $1,400.

It's like Vancouver prices for a mid-sized government city filled with retirees. I think theres going to be a mass amount of homeless families and middle class people in the coming years. Even a couple both with fulltime jobs would struggle with these prices.

It's depressing. My grandma bought a nice home in Cordova Bay on a teachers salary back in the day.

Thank you for sharing. That's informative. Actually I am looking for leasing an apartment and as you said rents are booming. It's shockingly expensive. But I wanna ask you do you know a good realtor for leasing in Victoria? I would appreciate if you help me find a good realtor. I live in an Airbnb and I need to move in a house immediately.

Hello, the girl and I will come to Victoria in a while, your video is very useful for us. To begin with, we don't have a job, we want to temporarily work at Uber Eats. I hope this is a popular service in Victoria, and we have enough money for such an expensive rental. Maybe you will have some tips for the new residents? We will be able to rent an apartment, for example, if we do not have reviews from Canadians, credit history, etc.

Not to put you off from coming here, but it'll be very hard for you to find an apartment without stable income. On top of that the vacancy rate is around 1%, many university students last September ended up not being able to study here because they couldn't find housing. I think I even read an article recently about a doctor that couldn't find housing here due how competitive it is.

@@olivegarden1230 There is this building, View Towers, everyone says it has a bad reputation, maybe there are chances to rent a studio here, for example?

@@Shaidarabie As far as I understand there are fewer requirements for renting a rental apartment that does not have a washing machine? Maybe there are vacant apartments in the fourth segment of real estate?

@@Max_Bondarenko I know someone who lived there, and have even thought of renting there myself due to how cheap it seems to be. I'd say even then it wouldn't work because they would want to see that you have a stable income. I don't think you'd be accepted into an apartment without a job that pays regularly for security reasons on the landlords part. Whenever your applying for an apartment there are most likely 100 other people also applying, so you have to somehow have more money or better references then all of them. Although on a more positive note, it would not be hard to get a job here. Restaurants and retail type positions are so desperate for people right now just by going out and asking if places are hiring im sure you'd find a job the same day.
