Rick Derringer on bass and Dan Hartman on guitar. If you watch the video of them doing Frankenstein you will see it in reverse. Thats how versatile these guys were.
on the studio version, ronnie montrose played lead guitar, and dan hartman and rick derringer both played rhythm guitar, while randy jo hobbs played bass.
Good observation not only that Edgar's supposed to be singing it and he's not and the lead guitar player I forget his name he's playing he's supposed playing rhythm the only one who's playing the right instrument is the drummer I think they just did it for fun
Dan Hartman on vocals and guitar, extremely talented musician, writer and producer. Wrote this song and died way too young. He had a solo dance hit in the late 70s, wrote Living in America for James Brown, and wrote I Can Dream About You for Hall & Oates but they had just finished their album so Hartman recorded it for the Streets of Fire soundtrack, it's one of the best songs from the 80s.
I did not know that. This is such a great song. Who is the other guy with the short hair playing the lead bits? He looks like he travelled back in time from the 90s to make the gig! Lol
Edgar was a busy man. He had solo work, Edgar Winter's White Trash, The Edgar Winter Group, he and Rick Derringer did some tours together, and let's not forget the Winter brother's work, he and Johnny. I saw them both in concert individually, but had always wished I saw them together. Lots of talent there.
Dan Hartman went Disco after he left EWG by 1977 . The big hit was Instant Replay and then in the 80s I Can Dream about You and James Brown had a huge hit with Living In America that Dan composed also ..
The musical guests who played on the Midnight Special & Don Kirshner's Rock Concert were all live, when the bands played they were giving their best, no redos! ✌️☮️❤️🎶
It was rare but once in a great while there would be a lip sync on MS. I just saw one with ABBA. Of course their sound was difficult to replicate live.
I remember riding in the back of our family's station wagon when I first heard this song, and the rhythm guitar riff gave me goosebumps. It has been a favorite of mine ever since. It also has such a positive message. Edgar Winter always rocks the house.
The Midnight Special was a great show. Everyone had to play live, and every band wanted to be on The Midnight Special. If you couldn’t really play you were exposed. It separated the musicians from the pretenders. These guys are musicians.
The album that this song came from, "They Only Come Out At Night", was my first album purchase back in 1973. I was 10 years old. I bought it for the song "Frankenstein" and ,bonus, this song was on it too. Still have it. I listened to it about eleventeen bajillion times.
C'mon Edgar, MORE Cowbell!!! Seen Edgar a couple of times, including once with his late brother Johnny. Every time was great, Edgar is a musicians, musician, talented and energetic.
Wow classic rare treat hear. I've heard this all my life but never watched it. Now the players are all doing different stuff. Got this young dark haired dude that looks out of place like he's from the eighties, playing lead, the normally base player, playing a fender Strat doing rhythm and lead vocals, Rick Derringer playing base. Man the tallent is just oozing from these guys and they're switching it up here.
Uh..oh..now you guys are in Dazed and Confused territory. Some of my favorites are from this era. Drums and rhythm guitar parties driving...always❤! No More Mr. Nice Guy By Alice Cooper.
I seconded someone's suggestion to listen to Edgar's "Give It Everything You Got" off his White Trash album. But also try Dying to Live from the same album. It was sampled in Tupac's posthumous "Runnin'."
YOu know what;s interesting about this performance is that the bass player is playing guitar and singing lead and Rick Derringer..... their lead player is playing bass and singing!!!
Great video. (Frankenstein is an instrumental) ... the guy on bass is Rick Derringer who wrote and performed and sang as well. He wrote some of Johnny and Edgar Winters biggest hits. Seldom if ever see him not on lead guitar and EW usually lead sings. This was one of the best albums I bought that year!
Truly love all the variances of Edgar Winter. Give Edgar Winter's White Trash's "Save the Planet" a listen. It offers a gospel flavor to a very current and ponient topic from all the way back in 1971. I think you will enjoy the listen.
Hey guys Ned from Spain back again. This a stellar super tight performance of some classic Edgar Winters White Trash. Lead singer Dan Hartman normally played bass but is on guitar this time wrote this and many other hits including James Browns' Livin' In America. The lead guitarist is Floyd Radford who's band Tin House is a must for you to check out. It was an obscure record for many years but more and more people are picking up on how good it is.
Whoops my bad ! The lead git is Jerry Weems ! Floyd had played with both Edgar and Johnny and I thought it was him, sorry y'all, but you should still check out Tin House.
Ya oughta check out some stuff from "Darrell's House". Darrell Hall of Hall and Oats with other musicians like Billy Gibbons, Joe Walsh, Cee lo Green, etc...
Hi La and Che... Edgar winter and the white trash ... live album “roadwork”... try “cool fool” recorded at the famous Apollo theater... also “rock and roll hoochie koo” with special guest Johnny winter ... thanks
Hi gentlemen ,you need to check out a album by Edgar Winter and white trash called roadwork ....saw the perform live in 1970 a smokin album from start to finish really highlights Edgar but also features a vocalist and sax player Jerry LaCroix ....a killer recording for live concerts back then .....and live they sounded perfect .....nothing but smoke👍👍👍👍👍👍👍☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️btw love your works great job
Try some Tina S guys, especially the cover for Steve Vai's Oh For The Love Of God. She's about 22 now and just come out of a 6 year exile. You will not hear a better guitarist anywhere!!
I watched every Midnight Special in real time. It was so great to see all of our bands perform live, something most teenagers couldn’t do. That said, the song/sound quality is always pretty bad. Personally, I like the recorded first, then the performance. You lose the production value performed live in the 70’s. Yeah, no soundtrack back then. Enjoy you guys!
Rick Derringer on bass and Dan Hartman on guitar. If you watch the video of them doing Frankenstein you will see it in reverse. Thats how versatile these guys were.

Ya, Hartman was good. I didn't really dig that cheesy song he did in about 77....another channel reacted to the video ..Disco ,not at its best
I did not know that. This is such a great song. Who is the other guy with the short hair playing the lead bits? He looks like he travelled back in time from the 90s to make the gig! Lol

I saw them together in Atlanta in 76 , great show
I saw Johnny Winter open for George Throrogood 30 years ago
Absolutely iconic!
This is the stuff that was filling my ten-year-old mind on newly discovered FM radio. That transistor radio was the best thing I ever got.
"He was singin the lead in Frankenstein..." LoL!!! You guys are hilarious.
We meant the other one. Tons of music in our heads it’s hard to keep up
@@AirplayBeats Nah, claim it. Half baked and Dave Chappelle is stealing it!
I had "They Only Come Out at Night" on 8-track back in '72.
Dan Hartman and Rick Derringer switching instruments for Dan's song. Cool video.
And now it's time for..."Easy Street". SO good...
Love the guitar solos after each chorus, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
God bless Edgar Winter and RIP Johnny! Thank you two bros for honoring the inimitable Winter bros. 👍
Chuck Ruff was the drummer. He used to sit in with my band in Reno now and then.
Great music sounds great live band music
Rick Derringer rockin that fringe, Edgar all be-dazzled up and the shirtless drummer. Great rock band visual!
Dan Hartman went Disco after he left EWG by 1977 . The big hit was Instant Replay and then in the 80s I Can Dream about You and James Brown had a huge hit with Living In America that Dan composed also ..

Another great song from the early 70s.

This song was most of my party tapes for college fraternity parties in the early 80’s. Always got people up and moving!
You got to check out the long version, this was played on am stations while the FM stations played the long version.
Live versions are rarely better than studio versions, especially when the studio version is the one that got airplay. This one isn't bad.
I did not know that Edgar was not signing lead on this song. Great video and excellent live performance.
Gawd, love em or not, they are playing music. Hard, fast driving, real live music....😢
in the early 2000's edgar redid this song and frankenstein into jazz on the album "jazzin the blues" it's a must listen
If you go straight to Steely Dan’s Chain Lightning from here, you can hear the guy playing bass on this song rip it up on guitar for SD.
That was funkeeeee.
Funny how music can make stars from an albino, and other assorted odd people with musical talent…I love that! A peek into the 70’s!
C'mon Edgar, MORE Cowbell!!! Seen Edgar a couple of times, including once with his late brother Johnny. Every time was great, Edgar is a musicians, musician, talented and energetic.
Edgar Winter is one of the most proficient artists ever!
My first concert in ‘73…14 years old in Houston!
The Midnight Special, never equaled, man I miss it!

I love the stuff you guys select. Edgar led a fantastic gospel blues horn band called Edgar Winter’s White Trash. Try “Give It Everything You Got”
Side two (of four) from White Trash's Road Work album - Still Alive and Well, Back in the USA, and Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo is hard rockin' heaven.
It’s 🔥 for the steely sound on that riff alone. Good god that works ✌️ well!

awesome thanx guys
Bad ass live jam!
Rick Derringer on bass guitar. He had a nice solo career.
Rick on bass guitar in this performance. Nice when you have enough talent in a band that one of rock’s greatest guitarists is on bass.
@@keefmack - nice call

That’s the one
rock and roll hoochie koo by rick derringer with edgar winter group live 1973 i think you guys will like it
Wow I haven't heard that song in about 40-50 years 😂
I think this is a great song. Great guitar riffs, and bass.

Oh yeah Grooved to Free Ride. Then would listen to Foghat song Slow Ride also a banger ❤
I almost forgot that Derringer and Hartman did switch instruments from time to time..
Go Laa, Go Chee!!
Jerry Weems was a helluva guitarist back in the day. Shame he’s pretty much forgotten now
The Hartman-Derringer bass/electric swap had me going.
Great choice! Great version!
They actually played live on TV. No playback!
Rick derringer 🤘❤️
Dan Hartman on lead vocals
Bingo.
Whoa, Derringer playing BASS!, and Hartman playing rhythm !.. Is that Ronnie Montrose on lead guitar? Cant figure that one out...

Rick Derringer was the lead guitarist and vocals in this song.
Rick was on bass here :)
Rick was on bass on this one and not singing.
The singer here was the bass player and the bass player was on lead guitar on Frankenstein ..and there were no vocals on Frankenstein...
Rick Derringer making the bass look huge, huh?
Hartman and Derringer switching axes.
“ Edgar sang lead on Frankenstein” ? Frankenstein is an instrumental.
Loved this but there was no lead vocal on Frankenstein - it was an instrumental. I loved your reaction to it too btw.
Please give a listen to “Save The Planet” studio version from The Edgar Winter White Trash album
Wasn't Frankenstein an instrumental? Edgar Winter was just ridiculously prominent in Frankenstein because he played so many different instruments.
Rick Derringer playing bass?? What next, cats living with dogs? Mind blown.
Jerry Weems on the white sg !!!!!!
Sounds like the same keyboard in Zeppelins trampled under foot.
Was there singing in Frankenstein? I think that was instrumental
Frankenstein was all instrumental no one singing. I think you reacted to Tobacco Road with Edgar and Johnny where Edgar
sang.
Were you thinking Tobacco Road? Frankenstein had no vocals at all...
Nobody was doin vocals on Frankenstein
No vocals on Frankenstein, Rick Derringer on bass, the guy singing was usually on bass.
Edgar did not sing lead on "Frankenstein". It's an instrumental. LOL
Tommy Shannon ended up in Stevie Ray’s band him and Chris were double trouble. !
Listen to sinead O’Connor and the chieftains 1995 live version ‘the foggy dew’
…..never sang in Frankenstein 🤣😂 (instrumental) 🔥
I Got the song title mixed up. Hard to remember all these songs we’re doing.
Rick "Suzi Quattro" Derringer on Bass. Honestly, who gets that reference? Tell me.

It sounds like a woman singing lead on the studio version, but then again, it was the 70s. Studio version is better
The original recording is better...as usual❤
Nobody sang nuthin' on Frankenstein...no vocals whatsoever.
Should have done the studio 1st. WAY WAY BETTER then this
