Even as I was writing the song, I knew where the video should be shot. I was really connected to the story of the school girls in Nigeria who where kidnapped. I couldn’t stop thinking about those girls, about how they used to have normal lives with dreams, style, and broken hearts too… I couldn't forget them. In the video I wanted to show that these girls are strong and ambitious, with hopes and dreams, broken hearts. Hadija is one of the main characters in the video, and she was so perfect. She had the perfect strong and ambitious character, and told me about her dreams to be an actress. It's her who I follow in the video in the desert. She uplifts me from my sorrows, directing me to her school girl posse who with their joyful beat and rhythm exemplify the essence of life and what love means - Petite Meller

Yeah it might be a little naive, but there might be some truth to it too. And in Petite Meller's case I think it's in no way dehumanizing like worse examples of the trope are.

I'm convinced people calling this racist or people who have a problem with this video are either trolling or insane. I'm sure most are trolls because it just makes no sense to be angry. I myself am African and nearly teared up watching this video. It's a very beautiful video with a great message and it shows the positivity of Africans, and happiness, the dancing, the joy. I agree -- this isn't racist at all. I thought its main messages were: fun, joy, love (I actually couldn't understand most of the lyrics). I thought the fact that she filmed it in Kenya with African dancers conveyed the message that no matter how different we look, and how different our backgrounds are, all people can enjoy and appreciate music.

In the past few days I've found myself listening to this amazing song several times a day, almost every day. I was driving home one night when the song played on the radio, about a month ago. It struck me like a lightning, a song that manages to uplift and touch at the same time. I failed to pick up the name of the artist so I was searching obsessively until I managed to dig the song and the performer's names through the few lyrics I did remember, and I'm glad I did; thank you Petite Meller for making my days better!

People get offended over everything. I understand that accessorizing african culture happens far too often in our society, but just because a black person appears in a video does not mean that is what is happening. There was no scene in this where Petite had little black girls carry her bags, no scene where she had black men bow down and worship her. It was just a fun video! This video was shot in Kenya. It wouldn't have made any sense to use white people in it due to Kenya's largely black population. And if she had used white people, then people would be justifiably angry that she brushed over the people native to the land. From the first time I saw this, I knew people were going to be angry with it. But I really just don't see why.

This is a beautiful video, I don't see any racist tones to it. People nowadays are crazy and over sensitive. If you lisent closely at the end she says something like "Pour les filles de l'Afrique" which translates to "For the kids of Africa". Stop with the nonsense. Racism is prejudice against a race, I see her simply being happy in showing other cultures, and not to mention, she wasn't being like 'oh look poor African kids' like most modern celebrities do.
Racism and prejudice are two separate things! I actually agree with you and I love the video, but I just felt like pointing that out. Prejudice is someone personally being malicious towards or being misinformed and ignorant towards a race. Racism is the constitutional and societal oppression of a race. They can both exist in the same space and I understand the confusion, but they aren't the same and getting the two mixed up can lead to a lot of ugly misunderstandings.
