    I used to drive a Pearce of that model and year. Now I am retired. Miss that old truck. I would take that Pearce today over any of the newer trucks.

      There will be more. She's licensed as a collectable antique so I can't drive it a whole lot during winter, but I'll pick some really cold mornings and grab some more cold starts.

    Just to add some context to my voiceover on the video. The injectors are mechanical but the valve which flows fuel into the injector is solenoid controlled by a computer (instead of a 'fuel rack'/governor). The engine is 'drive by wire' which is really impressive for a 30 year old truck. If you're interested, here is a technical document on how DDEC works. drive.google.com/file/d/1Y2Iob_uGU8uWhGHLfCrKkPjS3NxNNT6-/view?usp=sharing

    Man that Detroit 6V92 sounds incredible! What transmission is in the truck, Allison HT740? Can you please do a super long unedited ASMR-style driving video of it? I'd love to hear it out on the road, running up and down through the gears, cruising, jaking (if it has a jake), etc. Please make the ASMR-style video as long as possible, and please let me know ASAP.

    Have you tried adding in some marvel mystery oil with your diesel fuel to see if it will help improve that initial first start up issues it's having with it. Just A quick & fast trick tip to on it. That might fix it for under $7.00% A bottle one pint.,or one 32 oz./ounce bottle will treat gallons of that fuel to. it sounds like Sticky injectors on it to me. Marvel mystery oil is known for improvement on.& With things such as.& Like that to. It's stated on the outside of the bottles itself to.

    It could fix your starting issues on the cheaper budget. For A fraction of the price in the process to along with getting the same outcome.& Results from it to. WD-40 is also known to sue that to a long with removing moisture out of fuel& from inside of fuel tanks to. I'd check your fuel filters on that fire truck they might.,or may have gelly inside of the filters from the ethanol based diesel fuel out now days to. That will cause rough starting.& Rouh idling to that can lead up to clogged up injectors.& Plugged fuel lines.&etc.

    Are you FD? How did you get this with it still fully outfitted? As far as I know most states restrict civilians from buying or titling a fire truck with lights and sirens still equipped - and that's owning it altogether whether it be inside a garage or sitting on blocks or anything, let alone driving it on a road. I am not sure if registering it as a historical vehicle gets around that?

    • @littlesquirtthefireengine5478
      @littlesquirtthefireengine5478  ปีที่แล้ว

      The truck was purchased from a government auction that was open to the public. In Illinois, firefighting vehicles over 20 years old can be registered as a 'expanded antique vehicle' and keep all of the original equipment as long as the words "out of service" are placed on the vehicle in a certain size and the lights are not activated on a public roadway. This is specific to Illinois, I check the laws or cover up the lights if I am leaving the state. Thanks for the question.

    So why does our dear govt retire things in such clean condition? So they can give half a million to their industry buddies for a new one? I know it's not new by far, but if it still works fine, it's much cheaper to repair, and probably built better than new.

      I agree with you in theory, that said this particular specimen has definitely seen it's better days as a fire truck. It's got about 130k all-city miles, lots of body rust underneath, and many of the controls are rusted shut. 30 years of service isn't bad for a piece of machinery in the rust belt!

    • @chrishultgren777

      Should have replaced it after 15 years of service. As long as they buy domestic, it helps the economy.

      @TI Joe if people aren't building things like the parts that make a fire truck, they're at home collecting government checks and getting fat. I'd wager a half million fire truck every 15 years is less than government handouts to the unemployed.

    • @Zaltic

      Because of safety standards. Fire trucks need to be kept somewhat up to date. It's not like with police cars where they can just move the equipment

    To All those detractors, thinking selling off this 92' is a waste of tax-payer $$! How much is your life and property worth. The question for this rig is not how many miles it has, but how many HOURS are on it, ( pump operations sitting still, and all related equipment hours)! These factors are why the NFPA and OSHA limit fire apparatus to aprox 10-15 years of service, RELIABILITY !! Lastly, good lucking rig, I medically left in 96' after many calls/years under my belt!!

    • @MrWolfSnack
      @MrWolfSnack ปีที่แล้ว

      The #1 reason fire trucks are put out to pasture (and this is if no VFD or city FD wants it) is because the pumps are worn out or the water tanks rust out. It costs tens of thousands to refurbish a fire truck to legally certified and safe service which is why most of the ones you see that hit government auctions have been sitting decades or more and were abandoned, or retired because half of the truck is broken or they leak various fluids and water. My city still runs 1991 Pierce Dash pumpers mixed with 2013 Rosenbauer pumpers. We have a 1980's Pierce pumper as a reserve unit/trainer rig.

    How long does it usually take to start on a freezing cold morning? Does it take longer when it hasn't been used for several days?

    • @littlesquirtthefireengine5478
      @littlesquirtthefireengine5478  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This video is pretty typical for 32 degrees fahrenheit. It takes longer the colder it gets. When it gets below 20, I definitely have to use ether. It's got 10,000 idle hours and 130,000 miles on it so the engine probably needs a rebuild. But since it's a parade piece that usually gets used in summer, I'm not jumping at the idea of a rebuild. Thanks for the comment.
