    I have both Mothers M&A polish, and the California Custom polish. Man O man does the California Custom’s make diamond plate polishing an easy task. I use an old piece of carpet to polish the diamond plate. It works well

    • @littlesquirtthefireengine5478
      @littlesquirtthefireengine5478 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it is worth every last dollar. The green aluminum prep helps with the really tarnished stuff. The truck has about 50 square feet of diamond plate so I used a power buffer the whole time, otherwise I would have been there for weeks with a carpet square. But you are right that does work well for smaller areas.

    • @iamgriff
      @iamgriff 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@littlesquirtthefireengine5478 have you tried using a velcro attachment arbor, pressed onto the carpet back for the polish? Keep a small amount of constant pressure and it will hold firm. I should have been more descriptive in my initial comment. But that worked well for me.

    Just use a orange airway buff with some brown cutting Rouge and follow with a yellow wheel with some green compound and buff it out like new.

      @littlesquirtthefireengine5478 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You know what, I tried that. Spent all the money on a fancy digital buffer, a bunch of airway wheels, a rainbow of compound colors etc. I watched videos on youtube for hours. But I could never, ever get it to polish up correctly. I gave up on the airway buffs and decided to use California Custom instead.

    Nice video! I need to do some oil sampling on mine, keep forgetting. So one thing to mention, the way you pulled your oil sample may also be skewing the results a bit. Really they want the engine oil circulated before and want a sample from the middle of the oil pan essentially. Usually this is accomplished by grabbing the sample midway while draining the oil during an oil change or by inserting a long tube down the dipstick and pulling a sample. By pulling the sample off the bottom you may be getting a higher concentration of those metals and things may not be as bad as you think. Might be worth pulling another sample when you do your oil change. The V series engines though do seem to be hard on bearings. I have already done a bearing change on mine, as I believed it to have more than 250k miles on it.

    Are you FD? How did you get this with it still fully outfitted? As far as I know most states restrict civilians from buying or titling a fire truck with lights and sirens still equipped - and that's owning it altogether whether it be inside a garage or sitting on blocks or anything, let alone driving it on a road. I am not sure if registering it as a historical vehicle gets around that?

    • @littlesquirtthefireengine5478
      @littlesquirtthefireengine5478 ปีที่แล้ว

      The truck was purchased from a government auction that was open to the public. In Illinois, firefighting vehicles over 20 years old can be registered as a 'expanded antique vehicle' and keep all of the original equipment as long as the words "out of service" are placed on the vehicle in a certain size and the lights are not activated on a public roadway. This is specific to Illinois, I check the laws or cover up the lights if I am leaving the state. Thanks for the question.
