    building wife's first keyboard for her to use at the office now that she got her own office.
    she had 2 requirements only as she's not a keyboard person by any means
    1.) quite
    2.) 100% layout
    who would have thought that was two of the hardest things lol. Ordered up the V6 Max and a whole bunch of Akko fairies with her custom Halloween keycap set.
    Still waiting on the board, ordered fully assembled with the banana's to try them out, but this board was a no brainer. 2.4 Ghz, and all the foam and gasket mounts you could ask for.

    I ordered this as well. Same config with the Jupiter bananas. Should arrive any day now. Like you I think the keycaps may be so-so, but this will be my first mech keyboard, so they seem a good place to start. Have to say though, the KSA blue/gray keycaps look fantastic. So if it turns out I want more of a sculpted profile, I might get those.

      I got it now, and replaced the red Enter and Esc keycaps with the blue ones. I think it looks better this way. Wasn't a fan of the light blue. Still not sure about it, but at least now the keyboard looks more consistent. I appreciate your complaint isn't about the look but this is what I think anyway.
      This may be because I'm new to mechanical keyboards, but the switches don't feel that tactile to me. If I pull one out and press it then sure, there's a bump that feels a bit rounded, I guess. But - and maybe it's the weight of the keycaps - if I use the keyboard, it already feels less "bumpy". I mean, there is a bump, but again, it's really rounded.

    Your video made me double check if the V1 I ordered had the nob at the far right lol.. I'm excited to try the first gasket mounted keybaord. I know it's not the best gasket design but still. Also, lower latency for gaming is really nice since my boards including my k2v2 have horrendous latency. I will probably change the red switches that come with it for the black ink v2's. Wanted to buy another batch of 90 black inks untill I realized that they cost like a 100/120 euros now. 80/90 on ali. So I'm just going switch the keys with another keyboard. I have a GMK laser knock off (the akko one) laying around and my favorite set a GMK nightrunner knock off. So I'll probably end up using one of those.

    Following you for a while now. Here's a comment to help the youtube algo. I feel Keychron is falling behind the competition, either because of price or features or both. I almost bought a Keychron way back, but decided to go for a way more interesting gb keeb that was live at the time. Not sure it was the right call, though! The Q1 would've been way cheaper.

    I've had mine for a few days now and absolutely love it, feels like a great board to start out with in the custom keyboard world. Just enjoying the typing feel so far but its great to know I can swap out the switches and open it up to mod later down the line when I feel like taking the next step. Gotta say though as a gamer I do miss my shine through keys :(

    There were not any videos when I bought this. I saw your review, and it was amazing. Thanks for posting it. There were some issues when the keyboard was shipped, it was missing some accessories. So keychron is shipping me these missing accessories as well. I am looking for shine through key caps for key crown for this particular version. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Thanks for posting this video again. Take care.

  • @45KevinR
    @45KevinR 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It's pretty remarkable when the V series was originally just a cheap all plastic alternative to the K & Q series. Even though the keycaps are a bit economy model it's almost mad they can give you a starter set of switches and caps for only $20 extra.
    They've really got into the QMK/VIA over the past year. Once they worked out a way to bolt on bluetooth, I feel like they've standardised on it. I'm thinking once economies of scale kicked in the cost of a stronger microcontroller is only a small increment. The only down side is that their older boards and customers may get orphaned if their closed firmware/drivers ever need updates.
    Your experimental results with dongles will be interesting.

    I got those switches in my Q1 Pro and removed them as I didn't like the sound in the board before I modded it. However about a month ago I put them in another board that was somewhat muted and they sounded great. I always liked the feel of them anyway. Keychron is supposed to have a Lemokey P1 soon that "looks" to be a Q1 style with Cherry profile caps, 2.4Ghz for about $99. Plan to pre-order just to check it out. They have to cut costs somewhere right? I think we have 5 keychrons now and they are all nice, 3 get quite a lot of use. While I have more expensive boards after putting the acoustic kit on it, Akko Cream Black Pros and GMK WoB my original Q2 knob is probably my favorite board to type on and the sound is classic clack that I'm starting to love.
    Thank you for covering the VIA stuff as well, it took me forever one evening to figure that out!

    I've heard some Keychron keyboards have bad latency, how is the V3 Max latency? I've already ordered a barebones version of the V3 Max but I had no idea about high latency problems until after making my order already. Bluetooth definitely will have higher latency, but how is the 2.4ghz latency and the wired latency for this keyboard?
    Thanks for the video btw, great review.

    I agree with you about the kick starter model, I would also include the group buy model in there. I can see newer companies needing to do that, but not an established companies like Keychron. I have always wanted to buy a Keychron, but the lack of color options is disappointing to me. I would love to see their plastic boards to come in colors like red, purple, pink and so on. Other companies do it, why not them?

    • @MechKeyboards

    • @ucpmod
      @ucpmod 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MechKeyboards yes, color options with the V series would be nice. As far as your comment on the hot swap sockets. Why don´t manufacturers use Mill Max sockets? They seem to be sturdier than the Kail type and harder to pop out by accident.

    • @MechKeyboards
      @MechKeyboards  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ucpmod MillMax sockets were developed for IC chip pins, not switches and when a switch uses those thinner pins they tend to be softer and likely to break off, at least the new style hot swap sockets are a little better when they were first released, but I would like to see hot swap sockets that fit and stick with surety.

      @@MechKeyboardsthat´s interesting. I was asking because I have seen a couple of videos where they use MillMax sockets to turn a solder PCB into a hot swap one. Hi i would like to ask which is the better version the original v3 or the max version? Which should i buy. Is the steel plate that bad compared to the gasket mount or it’s not that noticeable?

    • @MechKeyboards
      @MechKeyboards  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Max will offer an enhanced experience with the gasket mounted PC plate, a softer typing feel that is not as harsh as a steel plate can tend to be, as well as wireless functionality with QMK/VIA; Keychron are one of just a handful of companies that offer QMK with wireless as the support matrix is limited.
      The Max is an upgrade, but the V3 is a decent starter MK, which can be improved with some TLC, so I don't want to discount it, but the Max is significantly better, IMHO.

    • @Test32150
      @Test32150 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MechKeyboards Thank you very much. I have one more question. Do you think the max is worth 30/40 euro more than the standard v3?

    • @MechKeyboards
      @MechKeyboards  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Test32150 For me personally, yes, it's worth it, but in no way should you over extend your budget. If you are coming from a membrane, the steel plate should not affect you, and with properly lubed switches,m you should be able to avoid the resonant ping that a steel plate can exhibit. Tempest tape mod and PE Foam mod will help it sound much better, if you're willing to roll up your sleeves and do a little work.
