They'll just sit there stuck and easy farm. I've only done this with the hoe to make the walls so far but it works extremely well. For all my solo players, have fun!
I've found that if you shoot them while still in the water, they don't run until you get them under half health. Could be useful to bring their health down a bit on the way to the shore prior to dragging them inland just to shorten that tug of war up a bit

@@nozee77 you can't see it since it's on the ocean floor. It might not be anything even modeled. The lesson here is that you should mark your map when a serpent spawns because you can come back later and spawn another.
thats not true unfortunately, i had spawns marked in the map and went back there several nights later and no spawns at all... all you need to get serpent spawns is to sail during nighttime on wide ocean biomes, i know for a fact they spawn a lot more frequently at night(even wiki says that) you get at least 1 maybe 2 serpents during the 9 minutes night time, and they also might be more common during storms, but this one requires large samples to test it and i dont think anyone did it yet
tip i found out earlier today: if you drag him inland try to head for any shallow body of water (river or whatever) when you loose him, he'll head there as the nearest source of water, but wont be able to go anywhere. its basicly an AI manipulation. the time it takes the critter to figure out that's not the ocean and it needs to wriggel on elsewhere, you should have easily regained enough stam to take him out.
Use Eikthyr buff while doing this. Five minutes should be more than enough to defeat the Sea Serpent and you'll more than likely have the buff ready again by the time you find another one. It helps a ton.
I think the serpent got stuck because technically the creek was water. You should try building a little pool kind of close to the shore and drag him into it. He might stay in it?
As a side note for those who don't know why he goes the extra mile to bring it to land, it is because the trophy and scales of the serpent do not float, unlike the meat. Meaning you need to kill it in shallow water if you want to get those.
You say that, but I've found that just getting the health really low and then jumping on his back for the kill allows you to suck the loot up before it sinks. Also, it's a pretty epic way to kill a sea serpent.

what i’ve noticed from hunting sea serpents is that they spawn a lot more during a storm. I usually wait until one happens then go out to sea, by the time i’m at the ocean biome a serpent appears and i just return directly to land and let the serpent hit my boat while I hit it with arrows. I did this with bronze armor and a fine wood bow.
armor doesn't matter in the slightest, you don't get hit by the serpent your boat does, the only thing that is important is high levels of stamina maybe even a stam pot nothing else.
Lol I tried googling this today and there was nothing so I had to figure it out on the fly. Set the sails to full harpooned one aimed at a kraken. Drug it on top of the kraken and hacked away at it with my iron axe.
I haven’t dealt with serpents yet in the game, but I’m wondering if you can pre-plan your ‘drag to’ spot, dig out a big pit and get him stuck in there to make it easier.
Yes you can but the harpoon slowly drain your stamina and the serpent can catch up to your ship and damage it so it's much safer to just find a nearby black forest or meadow and put it to rest there. A few hit with a bronze mace should put it to rest
With my very first iron load (via cart probably 2 full stacks from crypt to the shore/boat via a very bumpy "path"), I was so excited not to have to do the copper/tin duo, but I still had to haul it back to home via boat across a "lake"... As I leave shore, the wind changes and I lose all power... suddenly a sea serpent appears in the sudden storm. Oh @#$%. I freak out and rowing back into the wind is taking awhile (probably hit some rocks). Sea Serpent takes 1, 2, then 3 chomps, and I have no idea how much damage my karve will take... man, do I have to do this all over again... and suddenly, sail catches the wind. and i'm free! I think my heart skipped a few beats.

Mobs are your friend when serpent hunting. I found this out when I dragged one ashore in a Black Forest near a greydwarf spawner. I wouldn't haul one up into a plains village, though.
I've spent 8-10 hours just looking for one. During early game, before I was even at bronze stuff, I came across two and killed them both with arrows while I was on shore and it was attacking my boat.

I pepper the serpent in the waters with a bow and arrow for a bit, then try to drag on land. Last night however once it got hurt enough it actually started to try and run away from me. It made it to a plains biome, JUST on shore. I got help from a 'squito. I got real lucky there.
The scales have fairly limited use and the meat floats, so you really only need to do this once if you want a meh shield. Repeated farming you really just want the meat, so just chase them down with a good bow.
You read my mind, your new videos coincide with my projects many times. I did a great mistake, I let the head of the serpent inside the water. It's very important that when it dies the head is above the land or in very shallow water, because the scales drop from the head alone and go to the bottom of the water.
I think you can pull them up a small river and block the entrance with walls after the thing . They cant get back becouse of them and wont go out of water (so you can hack away) .
I actually think the swamp helped a lot. If you can drag the snake into the mobs that fight it, all you have to do is drag him and tank a bit of damage. Also you missed a scale in the water :)))
Serpents seem to be quite rare. Great news for noobs, not so much for people who want to farm the loot. I hope in the ocean update they make them more common when you are closer to the edge of the world.
I have only encountered them mostly at night, with the only exception, when I came back from the swamp I had one on my tail. I normally drag him into the black forrest and try to get him behind trees, or get some greylings to kill him for me
I can confirm that they can spawn if you're *in* a different biome. I was in a black forest near the water, with the next island's water large enough to spawn deep water. Could see it easily from the shore and could harpoon from shore.
I could be wrong as the game is procedurally generated, but I think serpent spawns are based on territory. I have a co-op server with my buddies, and we were sailing to try and find a swamp biome. on the way there we encountered a serpent, so we beelined it for the closest land and decided to build an outpost there. my other friend hopped on, and made a raft to get to us quickly... encountered the serpent as soon as he took the same path to get to us.
In my experience no, i have a port in my base from where i set sail all the time and i got a serpent there only once, i have had serpents appear in the most random places all the time.
I had a feeling this one was coming haha, great content as always! and its super cool to see you progress so were all on the same page! again thanks for taking the time to make these guides! much love- PS EDIT. I have had them spawn the Black Forest coast on me just going along the coast where I had crossed the mouth of a river and he came from the ocean all hot and bothered. dunno if it was a bug or what but it happened to me for sure
Thank you for noting that the scales do not float. We had killed a few at sea and were only getting meat. After we watched this video, we killed one on the shoreline and then noticed the scales and the head trophy were sitting on the bottom of the water along the shoreline.
if the wind is on your side the boat will be too fast for the serpent to hit the boat but it will still chase you, they have such little hp theres no reason to prepare so hard unless maybe its a 1 or 2 star. it takes under a minute to kill one with bronze arrows with 0 damage taken to player or boat. with bronze arrows and t2 bow my first backstab shot does 50% of its max hp lol
Is this suppose to be the normal way of obtaining the scales ? It’s kind of weird that the meat floats and scales don’t for an animal that you encounter in the middle of the ocean
Serpents typically do not attack when dragged ashore, and while on a ship, its attack usually targets the ship, so yes, it is mostly to deal with adds.
You should always prepare yourself to fight them while you're traveling somewhere by boat. Sometimes I'll find two of them on a trip to somewhere else. If you get it into your mind that you're too busy to fight, you just won't have your serpent parts.
the problem is getting the serpent to spawn. maybe try doing large circles where you want it to spawn but so far it's seemed mostly random and rather hard to find them.
I got enough scales from my two first serpents to make the shield. It looks nice on my wall. Now I just need the meat, so I just shoot the serpents when out at sea. Since the meat floats, it's all good.
@@ivyrion674 stamina potions regenerate direct stamina so if my boat is about to break i grab them so when my stamina gets low while swimming dont move and your stamina wont move either. it wont regenrate in water so mead doesn't help. wait for your potion cooldown if you havent already used one so you can swim closer to shore. Drowning in the ocean rally sucks. The one time i would have drowned i didn't because i had a stack of 10 medium stamina pots in my hold.
Just a reminder, to best tackle sea serpents, you're gonna want to have the dragon Moder's power. Being able to control the direction of the wind is critical when trying to tow a serpent to the land. You don't want to be going against the wind, have your ship trashed, and you drown... permanently losing any items that weren't in the ships hold.
well, if you are a not so honorable viking, you can switch the server and place all your belonging in a second server, and reclaim it after you died in the main server
My recommendation from serpent hunting, they tend to spawn in ocean, they can "spawn" during the day and may see it, however night time and storms seem to trigger the attack. Come back roughly 2 days later to the same area and it should be respawned as it doesnt seem to be completely random. I recommend slightly better gear and a long ship for killing the serpent quicker.
I like the Karve, not as fast and more maneuverable, harpoon the serpent, sail to land, hack with axe after it's stuck on a tree, and profit, you can do this naked
@@RichyN25 oh yeah nothing wrong with it, the kingship just has the extra health for error or getting past the swamp, as long as it's not a raft all good
I just always go to the black forest. Drag him around until I find some tree people. Then let the tree people kill him. After walking a round a bit and dodging attacks they agro on the serpent then you just chill in the back. Every time I tried to attack him myself the line always broke. After watching your vid i like my method better. Less stressfull. Looks like you could have did it with the skeletons in the swamp aswell.
Black forest would definitely have been preferable to the swamp, even if you relied on your own weapons. The last thing you'd need is an oozer showing up and poisoning you in the middle of the fight, or a 1 star draugr archer blowing your head off...Or worse yet, a swarm of leeches smashing your boat while you're busy
Yea arrows are the only preparation you need. Eventually they run away. Just jump back into the boat and aggro it again. The only downside of that process is it's hard to control exactly where the serpent dies. If it's too deep, which happens, you may not get your scales. Haven't tried to raise the ground there, but if that happens, it may be worth trying.
Any idea how to find the Sea Serpents other than ocean biome? I’v found three in many many hours. It seems I find them just on the ocean side of the biome boundry
It look so simple but i feel like its impossible to do it myself, when i pull them up on land, my stamina just wont regen at all and the serpent just bails on me. SO frustrating
Minor stamina mead is super easy to craft as long as you’ve explored the Black Forest biome. Yellow mushrooms are the only thing that respawn in burial chambers or sunken crypts. They also respawn in troll caves. So every once in a while I make a dungeon run to the closest 3-4 burial chambers and troll caves to grab a bunch. Raspberries are aplenty in the meadows, and you only need a couple beehives to get the honey required for crafting. Again, if you’re into the Black Forest biome or beyond, you should have plenty of beehives. If not, just remember to ALWAYS check abandoned structures in the meadows, even just the starting island should have *plenty* of beehives.

Love the videos and the time you take to hypothesis, test and show results. Keep up the good work brotha!
Wow that close!? Thats actually kinda cool you could harpoon from shore lmao
In my experience no, i have a port in my base from where i set sail all the time and i got a serpent there only once, i have had serpents appear in the most random places all the time.
you can also do a little pool with ur pickaxe and a small canal just to fill it up and start doing some enclosures for them
I had a feeling this one was coming haha, great content as always! and its super cool to see you progress so were all on the same page! again thanks for taking the time to make these guides! much love- PS EDIT.
Nerd from the future here: seems like storms and night time are your best bet for serpent spawning.
Night time is generally enough for it to garrentee a serpent, storm makes it harder to sail though
5%
+ 5% night
+ 5% storm
they do respawn; so go back to the same spot in a couple days
Is it possible to quickly slap down some roundpole fence to keep the serpent around longer or do they slither over it?
Ok so now im thinking of digging a deep pond beside my base and drag a serpent 😂
This works.
Is this suppose to be the normal way of obtaining the scales ? It’s kind of weird that the meat floats and scales don’t for an animal that you encounter in the middle of the ocean
The scales don’t float because by the time you need them you should have an abyssal harpoon to take the serpent onto land
I've had several spawn as soon as a storm started on the ocean. Thinking it increases spawn /shrug
So to clarify, the high armor and health is needed because of the adds when you drag a serpent over land? It's not needed to fight the serpent itself?
Serpents typically do not attack when dragged ashore, and while on a ship, its attack usually targets the ship, so yes, it is mostly to deal with adds.
god farming these is such a pain; so hard to just find a single one
You should always prepare yourself to fight them while you're traveling somewhere by boat. Sometimes I'll find two of them on a trip to somewhere else. If you get it into your mind that you're too busy to fight, you just won't have your serpent parts.
Could you have a campfire going (or several) and try to farm one near there and drag it into the fires?
the problem is getting the serpent to spawn. maybe try doing large circles where you want it to spawn but so far it's seemed mostly random and rather hard to find them.
Why no stamina potions
I got enough scales from my two first serpents to make the shield. It looks nice on my wall. Now I just need the meat, so I just shoot the serpents when out at sea. Since the meat floats, it's all good.
Stamina potion will help big time for solo players.
yes!
They will also save you from drowning if you have 0 stam. I keep a stack on my boat just incase it goes down I can swim to shore.
@@gage824 on your boat?
@@ivyrion674 stamina potions regenerate direct stamina so if my boat is about to break i grab them so when my stamina gets low while swimming dont move and your stamina wont move either. it wont regenrate in water so mead doesn't help. wait for your potion cooldown if you havent already used one so you can swim closer to shore. Drowning in the ocean rally sucks. The one time i would have drowned i didn't because i had a stack of 10 medium stamina pots in my hold.
If you relog you come back with full stamina. It’s a bit exploitey, but solo players gotta do what they gotta do
Just a reminder, to best tackle sea serpents, you're gonna want to have the dragon Moder's power. Being able to control the direction of the wind is critical when trying to tow a serpent to the land. You don't want to be going against the wind, have your ship trashed, and you drown... permanently losing any items that weren't in the ships hold.
Your tombstone floats
well, if you are a not so honorable viking, you can switch the server and place all your belonging in a second server, and reclaim it after you died in the main server
@@RichyN25 oh yeah nothing wrong with it, the kingship just has the extra health for error or getting past the swamp, as long as it's not a raft all good
How about lowering the Serpent HP pool before with the Bow before harpooning it?
yea but you have to be careful because they have a flee mechanic.
Just took down my first one. If you have Frostner you can really slow his retreat to the water
Oh that's a really good idea!!
Yea took down two already solo. Nice video!
The last thing you'd need is an oozer showing up and poisoning you in the middle of the fight, or a 1 star draugr archer blowing your head off...Or worse yet, a swarm of leeches smashing your boat while you're busy
i've had one spawn really close to the shore, i think i briefly entered an ocean biome and one spawned
I wonder if you could trap the serpent in a mote around your base?
yes, you can. A Troll even fought one for me once. berserking and boats baby!!
Make sure you are rested and eat high stamina food
use stamina regen potions
What word is he using to call mobs? Ads? Ants?
Ads, not sure when it started but its usually a term for mobs that are smaller and a general nuisance.
adds, short for additionals, if you will, comes from RPGs. as in there's the boss and then the adds
Thanks for the video! I have been looking for a way to solo the serpent. Got my first one today.
Any tips on farming mushrooms and raspberries?
start new worlds, run through them. delete them
@@slutmagic383 That is an awesome tip, thank you!
I can't even do the first step(getting to turtles) They never seem to spawn
why you dont say that the little insland sink after a few hits -.-'
its a friking monster xDD
Seperents can spawn while its dark and raining in ocean.
Also if you cant reach the scales you can go farm some rock and just raise the area.
I've had one on a calm sunny day.........papped myself
