  • In this video I will show you how I seam granite countertops. This series of videos is good for the home builder or DIY remodeler. It will be especially valuable to the home owner who wants to remodel their own kitchen and wants granite countertops but can not afford them.

Great series. Very informative. So used used a different epoxy for the seam (Vinyl Ester adhesive) than the transparent polyester adhesive you used for the roding on the sink cutout in episode 8. Can I get away with using just one of these. Trying to save a few bucks here. Thanks.

      Hi
Thanks for watching! You can not. The polyester adhesive has to be able to flow into the space and then level out. The Vinyl Ester Adhesive is designed to flow very little keeping it in the joint. It is also extremely strong. The seam is relatively easy but needs to stay put years after it is completed. Fixing it later is a major deal. Saving money is a big deal for me also. But, if you are doing this yourself, you are already saving thousands of dollars. Have fun with your project!!!!

Great video. Im about to re do my sons kitchen. He just got married. So they dont have alot of $. I will watch the rest of your videos but i wanted to ask... did you set the slavs with silicone first or do you do that after the seam is dry. Thanks

Thanks for watching! Put the slabs in place, seam them, let it dry and then set the top with silicone. You don't have to lift the countertop much. Lift just enough to get the caulk gun between the counter and cabinets. Just make sure to lift it evenly to not crack the top at the sink or the seam. I hope this answers your question.

Remove the panters tape beforehand so you don't pull apoxy out the seam

Holy shit this looks better than the quartz seam I just had done yesterday by "professionals". What did you use to grind down or polish that lip off. They are suppose to come back next week to fix their seam and I need all the info to throw at them.

Thanks for the response. I show people how to do it in episode 7 edge polishing. Here is the link. th-cam.com/video/xMruYNiK-6I/w-d-xo.html To edge it I use just a 3/8" radius edge grinder in my grinder. Then to polish, I use the 7 step sanding process with buffing. I start with 50 grit then 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000 then buffing. Should take them about 15 minutes for the small front part to finish the seam.

@@designbuildandfix would that work for seam lippage to? The salesperson I complained about the seam to says stone is never the same height so that's why I have seam lippage. To me it's uncalled for and poorly done

    • @designbuildandfix

@@ejg34 If the seam is very noticeable, it was probably poorly done. They did not take their time to minimize the seam lippage. Yes natural stone does have some variance in thickness. Mine was granite which also has variances, but I spent the time when I cut the seam in episode 6 cutting the seam, to make sure I adjusted for the differences. I could move one section forward or backwards to make it work. Now, they can sand and polish the top to get rid of the lippage but that is very difficult to polish and it takes time. I would only suggest that as a last resort.

@@designbuildandfix let's see what they say when they come. I'm in the flooring business for 20 years so I know what seams should look like

@@ejg34 flooring isn’t stone countertops. You could have poorly installed cabinets. Did you pick the cheapest stone place ? Most of the time you are going to feel the seam some lippage is normal. All types of stone produce different seams did you ask or discuss seams and locations. I cut trees so I know the wood flooring . Really? See how that sounds
