1:36:50 Unfortunately for Diane McClintock, Fontaine does let it slip and it gets him caught. At least for a moment. I love her character, she’s my favorite audio log background rapture character. We first meet her as a down and out lover of Ryan’s while she is drinking away her troubles at a bar in the Kashmir Restaurant on New Years. She even implies that Ryan is open to getting her pregnant. Which may mean she was the original person chosen to be Jack’s (the MC) mother. As luck would have it, that same bar on that same night is the target of splicers attacking the upper crust in an effort to fear monger the city. After being injured in the explosion, Diane seeks medical treatment from Dr. Steinman who promptly leaves her lightly disfigured most likely due to him falling deeper into Adam induced madness along with the severity of her injuries. It’s even implied that Steinman used his status to sleep with her. She goes on to hide away until the rumors of what is happening in the poorer districts of Rapture become too enticing. Diane travels to this last area you explored only to find vile living conditions and death a regular part of most people’s days. Horrified, she seeks out Atlas, a man whispered to be the new savior of rapture after Frank Fontaine disappeared. She finds Atlas and begins a very close relationship with him taking the forefront of the fight against poverty in Rapture. The tape you just heard was a continuation of a tape I think you missed, but serves as a harsh reality of what Fontaine was willing to do to keep his secret persona. Her body is the one in the desk the audio log is next to. Diane follows the player throughout almost the entire game in a way. She’s also one of the first audio characters we meet. We get to see her fall from the graces of her lavish lifestyle only to rise again with a ferver for helping those ignored by the majority of her class of citizen. She spent her last days trying to ACTUALLY fix Rapture while living with the people who Rapture’s system used and abused. Even Fontaine agreed that the general population of Rapture were conned the hardest by Ryan. But like he said, someone has to be the janitor.
You think it's no big deal, John. You think it's just a harmless energy drink flavored after a popular candy. But the next thing you know, you'll bedevouring those Sour Patch Kids-flavored Oreos two at a time with a side of that Skittles drink. Save yourself now!
The drink is pretty good and I saw the Oreos but I don’t know who thought that was appealing. I think a year ago they even had sour patch cereal which was nasty
I love the plot twist for the game too. Even when the majority of the game details become a blur in my memory, I always remember the plot twist because it's just so good. It's been great reliving this game John, thanks for playing! Looking forward to seeing you get the good ending this time!
I was surprised when we confronted Andrew Ryan, I thought it would be more action-packed, but I sense they really wanted his words to be the focus. What Ryan said made sense, looking back on how the story told us about the conflict for power in Rapture. I just thought Atlas was really polite, maybe ingrained in him from his childhood.
I knew something was off the first time he said "Now would you kindly go kill that son of a bitch", I felt that the mix of politeness and cussing was weird, but I'd never have guessed that it was a code phrase to control the player character.
Honestly, I wish I could've sat in on the recording sessions for this game. "Now, say the line again like you're being electrocuted. Okay, in this take, you're getting bonked with a wrench mid-monologue." It seems like they had so much fun with these voice lines.
been waiting for this one for a while! i remember ur original playthrough of bioshock and i always wanted you to replay the first and then play 2nd and infinite
I'd love an action story with John as the protagonist. "I heard that!" "Glad you have ears, idiot." He's got the one-liners down. Plus the offended "owww-uh!" upon being shot with a literal (imaginary) gun. If this guy wrote his own thriller, I'd read that in a heartbeat.
It really sucks that so much effort is put into the pacing of this game, and subtitles go and spoil everything before the dialogue gets there. It's also really hard to never comment on every bit of foreshadowing to not ruin the big twists.
True. Seeing the subtitles put an entire paragraph up when it should’ve been one line at a time for the most important scene in the game was pretty annoying
@@xskyforger6299 I'm not sure, but I do know that Ken Levine mentioned it in an interview, and spoke about how upset he and the original VA were when he had to tell him that they couldn't use his lines.
I used to hack them for the free kits and also because if splicers try to heal with them, they get hurt instead. But I just hacked everything that could be hacked. I like the mini game haha
I love Ghost protein powder! Don't love the cereal I tried from them but they get their drinks and flavors right in my experience. Anyway, I'm really loving this and I feel spoiled because I also have Still Wakes the Deep to watch as well! Thanks for coming back to this game John
Have you played Bioshock Infinite and its DLC? Infinite was all right in comparison to 1, but the DLC is what made me love it. It ties the whole story together well
I know this info is probably too late, but for anyone who plans to play this game: don't sleep on the crossbow. A headshot from it deals 1000% damage and can instantly kill any splicer. The incendiary bolts works wonders on the Big Daddies too.
Ghost is phenomenal but watch the intake, if you get a chance the sour-patch watermelon is amazing! Also, Oxyshred is it if it's in your area! (not sponsored) but they are better for you and the caffeine is definitely there! Thank you for playing this again, always one of the best games to date!
31:36 this is nice game design I guess and reminds me of Slay The Spire because like Elites the Rosie ends up exacting resources (unless played in some specific way you need to be equipped for) from every (possibly lethal) interaction. Exciting! The spiral staircase/columns offer a new vertical 3/D strategic element. I thought you played it as intended 🤘 I might've come to your channel from your first playthrough-- I was obsessed as a teen but didn't have the money for it or a computer that could run Bioshock LOL so TY for posting Hey 60 or something videos of BG3 from the Charity Stream-- the votes are no joke!! I wonder what the next one might be like.........
I got that energy drink once cause my nephew was obsessed with them briefly and I could not believe how much it actually tasted like the candy. Not bad, though.
I always liked throwing “enrage” at splicers to make them wipe themselves out against Big Daddies. Softens up the Big Daddies, too And I love Fontaine’s line that even in a libertarian utopia someone still has to scrub the toilets
Hey jhone be sure to be on the look out for a horror game called project ill. It's supposed to be out sometime this year. Looks great from I could see.
Ryan's self-sacrificing end still makes no sense imo. The rug pull of Atlas is fine but its reveal could've just been that Ryan was already gone to skeleton and then lets his madness out. Joel of TLOU2 took a golf club to the face for better reasons.
It makes sense to me, as much as a madman’s actions can anyway. “A man chooses, a slave obeys” - it’s a power move to choose to have us obey his kill command. Ryan goes out on his own terms, in his mind still at the top of his game. He sees the writing on the wall with Rapture and decides to take himself out before someone like Fontaine makes the decision for him. It’s all pride, just like everything else he did
@@JohnTwolfe Fair assessment. I've always wanted Ryan to use the key phrase to turn us on Atlas and take back Rapture... but he's done too much to pay for and has high standards. It's still an action like TLOU that wrenches control from you for a moment to teach you about the lack of control in the real world. An action that has complex reasons and then an internal discussions of results. I love those moments in this game.
@@12MrBo that was the joke albeit a weak one. Sometimes people be up in these comments acting like it was serendipitous that they “happened” upon a John video even though he uploads at the exact same time every day

The 70 year old children remind me of the Espers from Akira, lol.
Love how they actually added extra dialogue for when they’re getting attacked by the bees

Fun Fact: Originally, Atlas had a southern accent.
Not even just conceptually, he had recorded lines and everything.

Must have sounded too similar... oof that's a lot of work.
@goober479 Actually, it was because during the play testing, players commented that they didn't feel like they could trust southern Atlas.
