  • Are Christians required to tithe? If we don't tithe, is God angry with us? On the other hand, if we choose to tithe, does that equate to an automatic financial blessing? Is tithing taught in the New Testament? Was the principle of tithing established before the Old Testament law was given by Moses? These and many other questions related to tithing and giving are answered in this video. Enjoy!

FIRST! Just kidding! So, many people have asked questions about this idea of tithing? I did a video on this a few years ago but wanted to approach it from a different perspective since many people are very confused about whether or not they should or should not tithe. Let me know if you have any further questions that you want to ask on this topic below! I hope everyone is safe and social distancing to minimize the spread of this virus. Blessings family,

      Hello Allan:
Questions for a video topic ...
      1) How and when did the name "Jerusalem" come into usage?
      2) What reliable sources are available on this topic?
      3) What are the Biblical and non-Scriptural implications?
      Thanks. Amen

If we "give" in order to get back, that is NOT "Giving" -- it is trying to manipulate God into giving to us. Real giving is done out of love and generosity -- NOT out of greed. Also the law of sowing and reaping applies to a LOT more than finances. For example, if we are merciful, then we will receive mercy. If we help people, then God will send us help when we need it. etc.

Allen Parr - presumes to be a bible teacher ---he is ignorant of doctrine----I doubt he has any formal education - not that that is the sole requirement but education means you should know a few things...but Allen is a follower of other men's thoughts...and he is wrong on major points of scripture....what a joke that anybody can assume to teach the deeper things of scripture....Paul and Moses were highly educated

God bless you not because of tithing and the tithing was not money and it was for you to eat . You eat your own tithing not your pastor . The Israelites eat their tithes it was a sign to fear your Lord . Today you don't eat it yourself, you give it to your pastor. Why?it's not about the farm produce why .
Give offering according to your wish that is not called tithes my friend . If you put a percentage on your gift then it's wrong . In the new testament time we help or give willingly and we call the process the offerings .

I love this! It's a very good teaching on tithing.
I was saved as an adult. Soon after that I learned about tithing. The church I went to taught that tithing was what God asked of us, but nothing was ever said about the curse. They didn't teach "tithe or else." It was "tithe because God wants you to." It was years before I knew there was any controversy about it. But I did start tithing, and I'm very glad I did. For years, I felt I was laying up treasure in Heaven. God's blessings are not always financial. As I grew in my faith, I came to realize that tithing should not be done in a legalistic way. It should be done voluntarily. But I still tithe, and I think it's a good starting point on how much to give. God didn't rain down money from Heaven for me. He taught me the right way to handle money. He taught me the difference between wants and needs. He taught me how to live without credit. I'm so much better off financially, and it's a good thing. I became disabled, and my income went down to a little more than half of what I made when I was working. Now that I handle my money God's way, I'm better off financially than I ever was when I worked. I know that tithing started off a real learning experience for me, and I highly recommend it.

your heart is in the right place.. the teaching is off a little,, keep reading and study. .God will give you the right answer. that being said tithing is not money and God love a cheerful giver [not just money,,] they had a money system in the old testament as well as in the new testament. {they pay temple tax OT.] [MATT23:23 no mention of money} God does not want your money, God wants your heart?

why do you still hang onto the old law? Are you not respecting what Jesus has done on the cross for you? All old laws are nailed to the cross, refer to Col 2:14, preferably you read the whole chapter of col 2. If you choose to do the law, you might do all of the law which is a curse for all. I rather be in grace and give offerings as my heart decides.

@@DavidKing-qd3sp Did you not also know that God commanded only Levites to receive tithings for they do not have their own inheritance/land/etc. Anyone else (Israeli or foreigner) who tries to receive tithes or even approaches the temple is to bear sin and die. So, where are the Levites now? Now the temple is gone, we are the temple instead. Jesus lives in every believer. We are encouraged to give to the poor and needy, that's where we should give offerings to those who need it more than we do. The interesting thing about the old testament tithings, the bible says people who grow fruits/food, so on (land owners) are required to tithe. So it appears that people who aren't land owners aren't required to tithe (tithe = food).
So lets say if we ought to tithe, we'll have to grow food/fruits and give to church, yeah?

I have always had a fear of not having enough. I started to tithe because I wanted to literally put my trust in Him. I have found that even though I tithe, I have always had enough. It helps me to depend on God for everything. I have had many blessings since I started to tithe. The least of the blessings was a substantial pay increase. The greatest was my marriage. My wife and I were separated for almost a year. I had gotten to a place where I wasn't trying to "fix things" in the flesh, and put it in God's hands. I hadn't spoken to my wife in about 4 months and one day without any of my doing my wife reached out to me and said she still loved me. Talk about blessings! God is good! He is faithful! He always keeps His word! Hallelujah!

I know it sounds strange and it was strange to me. I reminded God of this Scripture. To be honest, I was afraid because of this Scripture.....
I went through this for a year. What the Lord showed me was that I was tithing out of obligation and not because I loved Him.
It had become very common placed. Like paying a bill. I asked God to forgive me for not giving from my ❤.
I give to God because I 💘 Him now. I loved Him then but I had gotten too comfortable and was taking my relationship with Him for granted but I thank Him for that experience.....

I know this was form a year ago, but wow this spoke to me in the very season I am in! Lately I have felt so much guilt for not wanting to tithe because we are so poor not that I didn’t want to tithe but im not giving with a joyful heart I’m giving with a scared heart and I felt like if I didn’t tithe that God would be mad, or think that I didn’t trust him to provide. Which isn’t true because I trust him more than anything. The guilt has been eating me alive, to the point where I’ve been physically sick, I’ve tithed and cried my eyes out as I did it knowing we needed that money so badly, and I said God your nature isn’t to make me feel guilty but I’m scared if I don’t tithe you will think I don’t trust me and you won’t provide. It’s been in my head that without tithing he won’t protect me which I know is the enemy provoking fear. This has left me with so much peace because the guilt has been so bad so thank you!

Tithing is, to me, part the my ongoing, living relationship and trust with God. Some pastors teach that, as soon as you receive a portion of income, you are to separate out the tithe (exactly 10%).
I am more comfortable with calculating/projecting what my total income for the month will be and proportioning it across the Sundays of that month.
Some people now give to their church over the internet, but I still like the physical practice of dropping a check (or cash) into the offering basket at the appropriate time each Sunday.
If my practice is missing some important aspect of relationship with God, I am willing to hear other viewpoints.
I love to give and base it on my belief that "my God supplies all my needs according to His great riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
Other insights concerning this are welcome.

If we are listening to the spirit, He may tell you to give MORE than ten percent, or to give to someone directly instead of to the church. This is so on point and needed. It’s a matter of what’s in our heart as New Testament Believers. What’s in our heart as it relates to giving, will determine how/if we give. If we look for loopholes not to give, we won’t. Those who are generous in giving, understand that we are invited to participate, yes, even financially, to advance the kingdom of God. That means that our financial gifts- whatever amount we have decided to give- in our hearts..we realize that others will be blessed as a result.

To be honest inspite of what you said you are robbing God if you don't tithe and nothing is wrong with giving a tenth and more but you saying that you won't be cursed for not giving is like saying what is written is false because there are people who used to tithe and have stopped because they don't have much to give but at end of the day is anything wrong with giving what little you have than not giving at all ,I don't believe that because it was in the old testament it doesn't apply to Christians today so it is what it is ,my sister hasn't tithed in years and it seems she believes you don't have to which I believe is very sad because so she's faced with these circumstances late pay late rent and loan of thousands of dollars,I haven't tithed in a while as well it's my desire to inspite of what little I earn and intend to soon but I believe for each time I receive and don't give back to God it's recorded by angels in heaven it's this simple if after hearing souls go to hell for robbing God and there a special section for this sin then it means you are cursed for not giving and it's not a one time thing it's continually

I love to tithes to God! Through my church, I've been tithing since I was 14 years old. It has become a relationship and a consistent commitment to God for me. I understand why there might be controversy about tithing because it seems as if many times the most prosperous person financially in the church is the pastor himself and they appear to be more focused on building a more beautiful and elaborate church building instead of building the spiritual lives of those who are already faithful attending. I have personally experienced this on more than one occasion and it has affected my thinking concerning tithing. I understand that we are giving as unto the Lord but I believe that we should be led by the Holy Spirit and not be under conviction regardless of what we decide to do.

I believe we should bless those God used to bring forth the word to bless us, and be willing to give towards a cause that we can see what the churches are doing for the community. But I don't believe that we are obligated to pay tithes, or any specific amount. Those who are blessed with financial wealth can afford to give 10,20 or 30 percent more, but that's their choice but not an obligation from God. I think we have too many faithful tithe givers, but still unfaithful to God, by not giving Him their hearts. People only give more money because they expect to receive more money in return. They don't want obedience to God by changing their lives.
This Corona virus is going to star showing some pastor's true hearts once those tithes start to decrease.

This month has been the month where I have tithed the most in my life. Let me start by saying that I was an AFWUL steward of Gods money that he blessed me with to manage. I spent more than I had and reached for things that were not mine to have yet. I bought i house and my money began to dwindle. I couldn’t do anything with my money because there was barely anything to manage as it was all essentially being managed for me. Not to mention I continued living outside of my means. I was not making any tithes and offerings. One thing I like about that Malachi verse is the testing part. So I wanted to trust him more and repent for the mismanaging of his money. So I sold my home and broke those shackles with Gods Grace. Mind you I sold it amidst this Covid 19 pandemic. I went from tithing a few bucks to tighting $100 throughout this process. And when the house was sold and I was liberated I wanted to freely give my 10th because of what God did for me. He deserves it and moreover the people who have worked the church that has been a place of such growth for me do need to get paid. And Paul speaks about this too. It also keeps my greed in check. And my main focus is not to expect a blessing in return, but to have a changed and renewed heart for Jesus and his kingdom. Although I will say that the sale of the house was one thing but the return from the sale was more than I could ask for. I went as far as tithing not just my check but even from that increase too. I no longer want to be shackled by my financial decisions and I want to be a good steward of this resource he grants me.

Well there are a few things to that.
First the tithe (the 10%) is mandatory, however it should not be paid begrudgingly because the purpose of the tithe is to honor God and mark Him as your source.
Offering are free will gifts that work as seeds for more blessings.
Allen says that God will not curse you if you don't pay the tithe, but God didn't say that He would, He said that they are cursed because they didn't pay the tithe, the curse exists because of sin, refusing to tithe is a sin, so when you refuse to pay the tithe you are sinning and you are opening the door and giving access to the curse to work in your life.
Also God did in fact make the tithe mandatory for Christians.
Now tell us what you think about this: Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” But Jesus knew their evil motives. “You hypocrites!” he said. “Why are you trying to trap me? Here, show me the coin used for the tax.” When they handed him a Roman coin, he asked, “Whose picture and title are stamped on it?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. “Well, then,” he said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.”

  • @tfan1965

    Hi Allen,
I have been exploring this topic for a while for my own understanding and to date, nobody I’ve listened to has touched upon what I see as glaringly obviously. Malachi 2 starts with:-
“And now, you priests, this warning is for you. If you do not listen, and if you do not resolve to honor my name,” says the Lord Almighty…
So the context of the whole message in Malachi 3:5 is saying to the priests
“So I will come to put you on trial. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud laborers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive the foreigners among you of justice, but do not fear me,” says the Lord Almighty.
It THEN continues in Malachi 3:6-10
“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’ “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse -your whole nation-because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
When I read this, is it not an accusation that it is the priests who have robbed God by withholding a portion of the tithe which they have collected? It’s does not say that the whole nation is under a curse because THEY are robbing me, it says because YOU, i.e. the priests are robbing me.
I was especially troubled by one message I heard that suggested that even those on government benefits should give 10% when in my opinion, those vulnerable individuals are the ones in need of receiving FROM the tithe.
Reaping blessings as a result of giving is one thing; preaching blessings as the motivation for giving, is appealing to humanity’s sinful nature and greed which surely goes against what God intended?

Many years ago we were going through a really tough period when I lost my job and we couldn’t tithe. At the end of the period God blessed us so much. Our church used this saying we’d recite about all the things we’d receive as a result of our tithing, like gifts, inheritances, raises, checks in the mail, found money, etc. It was a long list of things and at the end we’d say,”it’s giving time!” Well after a period of not tithing and the trial we went through, the Lord blessed us. Actually He blessed us through the trial because we never missed a bill payment and He provided all of our needs. My husband and I looked at the list and realized we had been blessed in all of the ways listed in the recited phrase. We were scratching our heads wondering why we were blessed so much even though we hadn’t tithed for that period. It went contrary to what the church was saying. Anyway, after coming out of our financial slump we became regular tithers.

I don’t believe we are commanded to tithe, just give with a cheerful heart. My eyes were open about this when my childhood associate pastor said we were to give Jesus a birthday gift of 100 per person in the family. I remember I thought about a single mom who was there with her 4 kids and was STRUGGLING with no help. I was around 17/18 years old and was so broken for her. They gave a deadline around Christmas and said if we didn’t give we didn’t love God,etc. i went home that day closed my room door and cried out to God about it. The heaviness did not leave until I was done.
The next time I went to church, I remember raising my hand because the asst. pastor said does any one have questions. Many were afraid to ask any, but I asked, Why do we need to give God our money when everything belongs to him. He doesn’t need our money. He wants our hearts more than money He wants our lives more than money.” I also asked “how are you going to give Him the money?” It was something they couldn’t explain and than others started asking questions and it was cut off.
I went to another church after I left there and they had this big revival and separated people the speaker said those who can give $100 over here $50 here and those who can’t give more then $5 here. It was very heartbreaking. I was righteously angry about this. Why. There was a mother who had moved there who lost EVERYTHING in hurricane Katrina, she was trying to provide and they wouldn’t even help her out with bills and that woman was faith to them.
I remember I started studying a lot about tithing and if we go off of just 10% we are forever robbing God. That scripture was use to manipulate.

When we read the Word of God we must read with understanding. God was speaking to the Levi not the other tribes. The Levi were suppose to use the tithes and take care of the widows, etc. there were not doing so. That why God asked them can a man rob God. We are not under the old covenant. We have a better covenant thus we should Give has God lay it on our hearts. We are not bind to that one-tenth.

the 10 % Tithe was used to support the Priests - today Tithe supports the Ministers or Pastors of a church - it was never used otherwise for anything ---BUT there was a Tithe taken I believe every 3 years that was used for other purposes but it was a different Tithe...and we are all as Christians considered as Priests so if the Priest of the past payed Tithe so should we..1st Peter 2. 9..it is very easy to deceive oneself to not pay Tithe...so study more deeply into it...Don't follow Allen he knows little about the bible unless you know less he may look like scholar ....but he wrong on many many points of interpretation...don't let the blind lead you.....the common thread on these site is ignorance...everybody has an interpretation form their imagination

I am not desputing the what your saying yes the priest was getting the ten percent but they were not using it appropriate ly. They were not using the best of what the people have to them for scarifice. They were giving less than the best to God (something that cain did). They were not using the special tithes (,the one you said that was collected every three years) to take care of the window, motherless and father less. This why he asked them can a man Rob God. Now these pastors are using against us when it came to offering time. It is so funny that most churches today do not use scripture from the old testament besides Malachi when they are collecting the offering. Jesus became the High Priest we don't have to pay tithes anymore. Who in the new COVENANT paid tithes

@@martishawillis8888 1st Cor. 9: 14 states those who preach the Gospel must live off the Gospel...Ministry is full time work - the ministers need to get a salary from the congregation...the 10 % we give belongs to them and they can do with it as they please...just as you do when you get your salary...but if you want to beleive a lie I cannot help you...as Issac paid Ttihe in the loins of Abraham and and we are Abrahams seed according to Gal. 3. 28-9 we must still pay tithe and Dr. Walter Martin supports my view....offerings were taken up by the congregation to care for other needs like in Acts 2 with offerings for the Famine that hit Judea...so you must pay tithe

Before I wasn't convinced this kind of giving, because when I was a young christian I taught to give my tithes . But the more I read the Bible thanks to God, the more I realize. When we go back to Acts we will see how they give. Even Paul as a teachers of the law didn't command the gentiles to tithes.

Sulum Oseya You are believing that this man’s misguided interpretations of scripture are God’s actual truth, even though this man has been wrong in just about every video that he has posted. You fail to understand that you should be seeking your knowledge of scripture directly from Jesus Himself. Every believer has the right to learn God’s truth directly from Jesus, you just simply need to possess the wisdom and knowledge of how to test the Spirits as instructed in 1 John 4. If you possessed this wisdom then you would have plainly known how he is simply a false teacher who is being guided by the devil.
“It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.”
      ‭‭John‬ ‭6:45‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.”
      ‭‭I John‬ ‭2:26-27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.”
      ‭‭I John‬ ‭4:1-6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

You may have a wrong idea of church, I know your probably hurt or don't like the idea of tithe or maybe something that was wrong in the church you went to, but just becasie that or two churches were like that (not following The Word correctly) doesn't mean that all churches are like that. Church (as a community) is important, because it's the place we're you interact with other beleiveres, we're you learn about God and we're you get led by the pastor who is also a help (someone who has obtained the gift of pastoring from God, He wouldn't create that gift for nothing right? He gave it to people so they may teach others and help them get closer to Him, basically a pastor, who is also a human and can do many errors like anyone else) . Now how do you find the right church that doesn't teach wrong ideologies? You are the one who has to take that conclusion, where you feel the presence of God, stay there, that's the place that's gonna help you. And remember, God tells us: not forsaking our meeting together [as believers for worship and instruction], as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more [faithfully] as you see the day [of Christ’s return] approaching.
Hebrews 10:25 AMP . So here He is telling us to not stop meeting with other believers for the purpose of worshiping Him and learning about Him so we may get closer to Him. Also because we need someone who has studied the Word and knows how to read it, interpret it, AND teach it. Because pastors help in dividing the Word of God so we can understand it better but ourselves alone are unable to do so, we need leader, for everything, specially someone who can lead us closer to understanding God and His love. So I hope you think about it and decide to search for a church :)

@@melanieangelmontoya4460 Thank you for sharing. I believe that you are coming from a sincere place.
I am not against the Church fellowshipping at a building or home weekly.
There are ministries that I enjoy that have wonderful biblical teaching. I don’t have “church hurt” but I am saddened by the deception and how those of us that profess to be followers of Jesus Christ choose to follow the Pastor closer than they follow the Lord. I have been extremely blessed at every church that I have attended. I left the “church” building because I wanted more. It is not for everyone but it is my walk.
Just because someone doesn’t go to a building every week does not mean that they do not fellowship with other followers of Jesus Christ. Some of us go to a building every week and still don’t fellowship. Just listen to a speaker and leave.
I do not discourage anyone from going to a building every week.
I was taught about not tithing and the history of tithing at a church building, by a Pastor. I do believe in supporting the ministry that is “feeding” you.
It is important for us to study God’s Word for ourselves and not rely solely on the Pastor to teach us. Some teach wrong things. God gives wisdom, knowledge, understanding and discernment. God is our source.
We can go to a church building everyday and still not know Him and still be in bondage.
There is a ministry that I would attend every Sunday if it was located in my area. I refuse to go to a building just to say I go to a building.
This comment will be wayyyy to long if I fully expressed lol but I would be happy to talk to you. Feel free to reach out to me - meawisufnl@@t

Why we think it's ok to blow riddiculous amount of money in meaningless stuff and then will not support the church that is extending there resources to have snacks for the kids during servive and events for the entire family/feeding the hungry, supporting the missionaries, paying for the utilitie..etc.

I used to tithe before the pandemic and throughout it. I wasn’t making much but still managed to be able to tithe, but right now with the economy and my finances still being the same, I haven’t had much to continue tithing. As much as in my heart I want to continue, I can’t. God regardless has been continuously blessing me in so many ways, but I tithed in other ways. I play drums and sing, I continue to obey God and continued to grow my relationship with him. It showed me that tithing doesn’t always have to be money, it can be simply just being faithful to God and just continue to putting him first. I’m not using my financial situation as an excuse at all and like I’ve said, I’ve been wanting to give tithing but haven’t been able to as much as I want to. I’ve been praying to God to show me that I’m doing the right thing and that he’s not angry at me and so far, I’ve just been at peace and working hard to get myself out of debt since I’m a student. I’ve been trying to reassure my pastors though that my blessings aren’t going to be lost just because I’m not tithing and to not put conditions on God because God will always have unconditional love for his children but will still expect me to show that I’m faithful to him. I hope this goes to show that what your true intentions that you have, God will see that and give you what he sees fit.

I was once told that there are other ways to give to the Lord besides things with monetary value. Not everyone has money to spare and they would still like to give back to God and the body as a token for their appreciation and thankfulness. For example, you can volunteer your time to help those in need, help out at your church, etc. Your time is also valuable and it speaks volumes depending on how you spend it, especially if it is to further the kingdom🙂 At the end of the day God knows our intentions and our hearts so don't fret.

Hi Sharon. I Backslide a few years back, then folks tell me once Saved always Saved, so...what does Backslide mean I ask myself. Church folks are confusing with their Doctrines, opinions, rules etc.
When I first accepted God in 2011. I was a Culinary Student, then a temporary employee. I didn't have Tithe to give and That Recession almost made me Homeless. I cleaned the Church, served Pastor & did all I could to Please God! I didn't have it but I felt Guilty, uncomfortable! If God had my Soul that was all I could give him! Now I'm full-time, Graduate make more Money, I back slid!
I hate that it happened, but Confusion in Church I'm not the one that feels this way. Be Blessed.

@@timothybright7064 I know some people will unintentionally make one feel as if they NEED to tithe/give, but I personally feel that is not something you should force on someone. If they feel they want to give or God puts it in their hearts to do so, then that is their decision to act on it. I don't like it when people make me or others feel uncomfortable or even ashamed as if they are obligated to give anybody anything when that is never the case, it kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth to be quite frank. We can't hold everyone to the same standard of giving when we are all at different financial places in life. I always go back to the idea that if I am in the financial situation to give, I will because that's just how I am, if I can't, that's just the reality of that moment in time. Sometimes we are put in situations where we are on the receiving end of things and that's okay too! That of course doesn't mean that I don't tithe, I do so when I can otherwise, I will give in other forms such as donating for example. I try not to worry though because I am a firm believer that not only will God provide enough to sustain but for me to share as well!😁

This is truth. I tithed many years ago and was no more blessed than I am today. I know many people who tithe strictly and are almost broke or are barely getting by. The reason is this. FEAR. If you are doubtful about giving that extra amount or that 10% then you are already in fear and not faith and the word says to give ‘nothing doubting’ ‘whatever is of fear is not faith’ however if you give cheerfully your$20 or your $50 or $100 what God has purposed in your heart then expect a blessing! It’s all about the heart. Occasionally I feel prompted to give large amounts of money and that is what God has purposed me to give. But if I am coerced into giving 10% by any pastor or minister I am not in faith. Better not to give. Give cheerfully.
