TBH I used to like her...but as a Christian parent I wouldn't even like my kid getting messages from her earliest material. Just because she looked more innocent and cute....it's not Innocent nor cute or a good thing to romanticize running away in secret (Love Story) or the whole "I'm the one for you..." Not the girl the guy is already with....this is where that leads. Those aren't healthy feelings to envy someone else ...do not covet what someone else has. It's one of the Ten Utterances. Although we aren't capable of keeping them all...we are supposed to be aiming for that. I don't want to purposely encourage or support my kids turning the opposite direction.

While riding with my son he was listening to Beyoncé music and I told him why I refuse to listen to her music and he was really upset but he turned off the radio and we rode home in anger. He got over it and now he don’t listen to her anymore thank God! I refuse to listen to this girls music too. I'm glad you don't let him listen to Beyonce. I don't know if you follow what has been happening with some of the hip hop artists, but Diddy's homes were recently raided. Looks like he has some murders and sex trafficking (and wild Hollywood sex parties) under his belt. Looks like they're going for Jay-Z next. When Jamie Fox was really sick recently, it was because Diddy poisoned him. He may have been involved in the dancer tWitch's death, too. I learn a lot about these monsters watching videos with Jaguar Wright in them, here on TH-cam. She's got a mouth on her, and now Jay-Z wants her dead.

Much more likely your son basically just learned to not listen to that music with you present. Kids aren't stupid. Exerting that kind of control can also have the opposite effect of making the child act out in rebellion especially when the control is unreasonable...too little information to tell if it was unreasonable other than knowing Beyonce's music isn't highly offensive.

As a fatherof two “Swifties”, I had to take a stand for them when my 17 year year-old daughter received not one but two copies of the latest tortured album. First of all, I prohibited them from being allowed to listen to the album at all, followed by a family talk with my wife present. Both of my kids did not take it well but interestingly, after the talk the following day, they were completely back to normal in terms of their anger towards me. It was a reminder that as a dad and husband, I need to firmly step in when questionable influential sources, pop up, while also, making sure that any correction and discipline that I instill has to be, followed up with quality time, spent with them as well. Believe it or not, addressing this Taylor Swift matter, was one of the most difficult talks I had with my family, reminding me of the powerful influence that this artist is in our culture. Be in the world, but not of it.
I hoop that you Childress mother also spoke up and not just sit there agreeing with you silently. I had a mom that did that with me and it ,make me feel that the only reason why a woman was put on Earth was to simply be a baby making machine and the go back to the kitchen and make the father his meals and to be more interested in what is on T.V. - That sets a bad example for boys and young men.

It’s not about saying whether lyrics are good or bad. It’s about understanding that we live in patriarchy World, that either parents or society, including the church - excluding Jesus - are possessing our minds, telling us what to do, how to behave. Later there are numerous narcissistic abuses because people were not told to speak themselves and stand for themselves, taking full responsibility and consequences of their choices.
Do you believe Taylor is devil, or there’s something wrong with her just assuming from lyrics she writes? Do you know her personally to have a privilege to judge?
The more beware of death-metal songs or those one, where truly you can be exposed to devil.
I do I observe Taylor’s actions which she undertakes, but from psychological POV and observations, I can say, this is her way to express herself and give lessons learned to audience who can learn from her NOT to repeat the same mistakes, or if they’re in similar situations as Taylor is, can feel strengthened and united, dealing with what life is bringing.
I'm sure these artists will be just fine without you listening to them ever again 🙄🙄

The song “Fortnight” came on the radio while driving in the car. My 4 year old daughter asks, “why did she say she wants to kill her?” Hard to respond to that one. I hadn’t even noticed that lyric til she pointed it out to me. Our kids are listening.

The cost was ridiculous and the only thing I approved of was the girls made bracelets and took pics in front of backdrop of stars or something. When I was a teen, 50 years ago, my Mom would sit with me a couple times a month and randomly pull RECORDS from my collection to listen to with me. She would ask me about the song, what they were singing about, what the song meant to me, how it made me feel, etc. Now granted, Donny Osmond, The Carpenters, The Partridge Family didn’t really have a lot to talk about. But she was involved in my music choices. Miss her so much.

My daughter went to her concert last year and really followed her obsessively. I didn’t say much or forbid her to listen to Taylor. I just set an example of who I chose to listen to. Gave her more options. She is reading her Bible more and her faith has grown. And since her relationship with Christ has grown he revealed stuff to her without me doing much.
You are wise. I wouldn't say you aren't doing much. You are leading by example which is often the best teacher.
My grandmother used that approach with myself and 2 other cousins. She never made us listen to Christian music and let us listen to secular music without condemnation. She led by example, worshipped Christ by her lifestyle and now we are all 40 years old and love Christ immensely. I rarely listen to secular music anymore. I now have a teenager and it's so hard to not let him make mistakes, but I just think of how my grandmother reared us and pray it works on him.

I am 32 and used to be a fan of hers about a decade ago. But I eventually grew up and matured. I know plenty of Christian women who idolize her. Recently a few women in my Sunday School class flew to Dublin, Ireland to see Taylor Swift. We live in Kentucky. It blows my mind that professing Christian women would spend a ton of money to see Taylor Swift and fly across an ocean. Yet won't fly across an ocean to go on a mission trip.
Her recent 5 albums are amazing. I'm in my 40s and love many of her songs for their rich depth and literary references. Some deal with really hard things that speak to people in their suffering, or are celebrations of love. Making someone/something an idol is wrong (I know plenty of Christians who idolize other Christians btw) but there's nothing wrong with having interests and hobbies and girl trips.

In 'fortnight', the story is about two people who were lovers for a short time, but their relationship ended. They still saw eachother a lot in their day-to-day life (cf. neighbours) and the main character is envious of the other person's new lover. There is no infidelity whatsoever in the relationship, only yearning for the other person.

A friend of mine invited me to see Taylor at the theater. I pointed out some of the lyrics to a couple of her songs. As a Christian, I was offended and would never want to see her or listen to her music again. I’m glad my children are adults now and I don’t have to deal with them being “Swifties!” Parents, please be diligent of whom and what kind of music is influencing the minds of your teens!
I'll be honest, I finally went back and listened to her earlier music, much of it for the first time, and I'm not really sure why anyone ever thought she was as innocent and pure as she appeared. Her music has never been particularly wholesome, and with each album has only revealed more and more of who she truly is. The tunes may be good and the beats may be catchy, but Taylor Swift, as nice as she may seem, is a very sinister woman.

That's why as Christians especially Christian parents we have to be extremely mindful about what we are introducing into our own lives as well as the lives of our families. ❤ It's not something to take lightly. I still like Alice Cooper and a few others like Eric Clapton even though they are not great examples, don't have good messages....(Alice Cooper does but they are sarcastic and not good for kids to hear)...but I also wouldn't just casually play their stuff around my kids until they are old enough to get an explanation about the songs as well as about the artist.
