Holy shit, I already admired Andrea even before this vid but then she said she even studied being a pilot, holy shit giirrrrl! You are my idol LOL. How did you all those extracurricular activities and yet your grade is still high and then you are the same bubbly personality when I first saw your vid here in TH-cam. Gosh what a role model, keep inspiring other people like me:)
Since you are so good at funding and using money wisely, you should work on cutting doctors' pay for their routine work. The latest Artificial intelligent (AI) physician almost got a perfect score on the medical licensing examination which leads the robot to getting a license to practice medicine. Robot physicians cost $100.00 a year in electricity to run and is almost perfect in diagnosing and prescribing. A human physician costs more than a quarter of a million dollars in salary and is NOT nearly as accurate as AI.
This is awesome! You did quite a lot of things to prepare yourself to become a doctor. I can really feel your passion for serving people and this makes their lives better :-) I am a pre-med and volunteering with Orbis just like you, but I still haven't made up my mind about which specialty I want to go for.
Hi Andrea, I just wanted to write a little thank you for making all these amazing videos. I am only a sophomore in high school but know I want to pursue a career in the medical field. These videos have helped not only in understanding what I need to do but have also motivated me. I cannot tell you how many times I have had bad days where I thought to myself that I'm not good enough or I can't do it and wanted to just give up but I always come back to your videos and they make me feel 100% better and motivated to go out there and kick some butt. I really cannot thank you enough for motivating but making me confident as I go through this "scary" medical path. You might not even see this but thank you ❤️
You are incredible! I recently found your channel because I'm just barely starting to explore my interest in med school and now your videos have me hooked! Your interviews are so informative and insightful, you give such helpful advice and you have an amazing personality! I'm also working on my private pilots license and I was shocked to hear that you did that too!! Thank you so much for making videos, you are absolutely my inspiration. Continuing to binge watch the rest of them after this one lol...
Andrea, You have literally become and idol for me, and I very much enjoy your videos! I am currently a pre-med student in my senior year of college, but have been set back a bit due to depression. You're so inspirational and keep me motivated to keep moving forward and "reach for the stars!" You're awesome! :)
I'm a medical student in Europe, medical school is 6 years here! I love watching your videos and reading your blog, and so glad you do them. It's great to get an insight into how another person was able to achieve what they wanted to do and become a doctor :)
Honestly I'd rather 6 years of med school because when all is said and done in North America it takes you 8 years (or should) to get your M.D. Do you guys have training after med school?
+smc we have residency too! 5 to 6 years (in Poland). 5 for non-surgical specializations and 6 for surgical specializations (mostly). Are you all medical students?
Hi Andrea! I am a dentist and first year resident at Orthodontic program in Russia. And I'm in love with your videos! You are so so inspiring!!! I love you and your videos and I'm pretty obsessed with your blog!!! Inspire on!!! =)
Awesome video. I'm a parent, just back from a meeting with my the guidance counselor of my son, who wants to be an emergency room doctor. Copied your video to him. Thanks again.
I'm also a double major in English Lit & Chemistry as well! I work part-time as a physical therapy technician (I love physical rehabilitation) and I am currently applying to research programs! Hearing your background really gives me a lot of confidence!

Hi Andrea, Love your videos! Can you please do a video in the future with a list of book recommendations for pre-meds? Thanks and keep the videos coming!
I am in 7th grade and I am very passionate about the field of medicine and specifically surgery. I know I am early, and I know that I am young but I really like it. I know how to do basic sutures and I like studying anatomy. I guiltily know that Grey's Anatomy was a significant contribution towards my interest. This was really helpful and I am really looking forward to high school when people will understand that the standard middle school math and science classes are just too easy. So excited to continue my path towards becoming a trauma, ortho, general, or pediatric surgeon.
You're amazing and I can hear the passion in your voice already. Keep reaching for your dream! And, you're never too young to dream and start thinking abt where you'd like to go with your gifts and skills!!
If you haven't already, could you do a video about time management? You were really involved throughout college and medical school, but how did you manage your time effectively in order to get good grades, and still be involved?

How long did it take you?
Hi Andrea, can you please a video interviewing a PharmD/MD (someone who was once a pharmacist and is now a physician?). I'm currently in a 6 year pharmacy program and am considering doing medicine in the future. Thanks!
I just love your videos! Thank you for posting them. I haven't gotten the slightest clue on what steps to take for medical school so your advice is great help to me. I am in the radiologic technology bachelors degree program and was wondering what other courses should I take along with my Radiology courses to make a strong profile for medical school?
You will need to take all the pre-med required courses- chemistry, biology, organic chem, biochem, sociology, and physics. Some schools also require calculus.
When would you recommend talking to your professor about doing research in a lab? Did you ask them right away or did you wait till the middle/end of semester to ask? Really enjoy your videos!
I'm so excited that you posted this video! I keep rewatching all of your premed videos to stay motivated. This is really great :) I wanted to ask if you could post a video related to an issue I've been having when I study. I know you've made some videos on time management but my issue is that I find I end up studying the wrong things for too long or that I run out of time to cover all of the important materials that are on tests and I guess I haven't really developed good test taking skills. I don't know if any of that makes sense but basically I was wondering if you could explain what you do to feel prepared for a test or exam in order to make sure you cover all that needs to be reviewed. Thank you in advance if you end up reading this!!
How did you get all your premed requirements done by sophomore year?(wow you're amazing)... I'm just hoping to fit them all in before the end of junior year!
Did you do undergrad in 4 years? I am a junior biochemistry major at a private liberal arts university, and I just don't see how you could fit all of this stuff in!! Like I would have loved to study abroad, but there was just no way I could fit all my science classes in for my major if i did that..
Hi Andrea! I'm a premed student in college right now and I love love looooove your videos! There's so many questions haha so I hope you can answer mine! My question is, how do you feel about the lack of primary care physicians nowadays? I'm asking because I was originally very interested in primary care: pediatrics or family medicine. However, I've read A LOT of articles about how primary care is the worst field, and it's not worth it to go to medical school and end up in primary care. Therefore, I am considering dental school now. I've shadowed a little bit, and I plan to continue to shadow more doctors soon. Thank you for your help!
andrea, what do you think about taking a gap year between med and undergraduate? I wouldn't want to do that but everyone I know who are premed is planning on doing that because a lot of pre health advisors recommend it.
+Katie Pham Im on the same boat right now, I never thought about taking a gap year but now im really questioning it, do you happen to know why pre health advisors recommend it?
+Dani Glez I'm also a college student and in the same boat. Because the MCATs have changed with more added content such as pyschology, sociology, and more physics and more biochem aspects, there needs to be more time to take the all those courses to prepare for the MCATs. Dr. Tooley had taken her MCATs at the end of her sophomore year. That is certainly commendable for her but it's incredibly difficult to do that now with all the added subjects. Pre-med advisors are advising students to take the MCATs after the fourth year, which automatically creates a gap year during the admissions process.
+MintChocChip100 I've personally never thought about it before because I don't want to take a gap year. But I think it would be a nice break before school starts again, just to avoid burn-out. My own personal goal is to try to take all the courses by my junior year, and if that proves too difficult, then I would plan on taking it at the end of my fourth year.
Yes, absolutely there are so many more courses that are not necessarily required for the MCAT but recommended and im currently finishing my third year and have currently taken all of those, soc, psyc, all the sciences, biochem, etc. I also always knew I would finish my microbiology bachelor's degree before going to med school so I think to just make my life easier im going to take two lab courses over the summer because they are 7 hours long each and will take a whole lot of load off from my 4th year if I take them now,so the time I had set aside for the MCAT this summer is not going to happen so it looks like after 4th year I'll be doing that... sucks in a way to have that gap year then but might honestly need it tbh. Best of luck to you as well!!!!
Hi Andrea! I absolutely love your videos and thank you so much for the great advice:)...... I was wondering if maybe you could interview a med student who majored in engineering and then went to medical school? That is kinda the path I wanna take but would love to hear some advice. Thank you!
WOW!!! You are my role model. I am a junior in high school and I am kind of freaking out because I feel like I haven't done as much. I am having a lot of trouble with managing my time with homework and SAT tutors & prep. How did you manage all of the activities you did throughout high school? Also, I have been researching so many hospitals to volunteer at, but I can't find one that will provide me with raw experience in the medical field. Would you have any suggestions? I apologize for so many questions!
+Abigail Panarello She is definitely my role model too! Ive been following her channel since I was in high school! (Im only a first year in college!) But its okay that you havent done that much! But as a high schooler right now, your main focus should be to get into undergrad college. Dr. Tooley did a video on time management and organizational tips (it was actually the first video that I had watched too) so you should def search for that and check it out. But please keep your grades up. You just have to work your butt off and keep school as your number one priority. With the volunteering at the hospitals, youre not going to find one that allows high schoolers a raw experience in the medical field. Pardon my frankness, but you dont have any medical licensing so I dont think any hospitals would allow a high school with no medical experience straight into the medical field just to volunteer. If you do want to volunteer, just volunteer at any hospital so you could understand how a hospital even works. I volunteered at a hospital for two years in high school and I mainly was an information desk volunteer. But I also learned so much terminology and the functions and pace of a hospital. But if you want to have experience observing the medical field, the only option right now is to shadow doctors! But it wouldn't be volunteering.
Hi Andrea! I think your videos are helpful to a lot of people, but it kind of seems like your journey is way different than most medical students, as it is not possible to get accepted to medical school before your senior year of undergrad. Do you have any tips for admission essays? I'm applying to medical school now after taking the MCAT twice (I did 9 points better this time!). Also, what medical school did you go to? I'm guessing it was Ivy League.
Hi Andrea, I love your videos and they are very helpful! I was wondering if you could do a video on military medicine vs. civilian medicine. Quite a lot of doctors went through the military first and it would be nice if you know somebody who did to interview them. It would help a lot!Knowing that the military covers all tuition fees if there are downsides to that(pros and cons). Again thank you so much! -Sion
I am a student at UNC Chapel Hill, and I am currently doing a biomedical engineering degree. I really think this track is interesting, but not for me. Part of the reason why I wanted to do this track was because I really want to stand out apply to medical school. However, more that I think about it I really want to major in Spanish, minor in Korean and Japanese/Chemistry. I really have a strong affinity towards languages and can already speak other languages like Hindi and Urdu fluently. I really still feel like I want to continue with my dream of becoming a doctor, however, should I major in language? I am so torn, please advise me because I want to follow people's advises.
Could you list your schedules through out all of college ? I start in September and I'm looking for others info. Thank you so much. Your such an inspiration.
Dr. Tooley, I have a question for you. Were there medical students in your class who were considering starting family during or after medical school before residency? I was curious as more non traditional medicine students enter the program at a later age, and I am currently in the process of registering for the prereq courses to get into med school. I might be 30 by then. If you have any information about this, it would be very helpful!!
+tokee1234567 Lots of people have children in medical school and residency! My co-resident just had her first baby 6 weeks ago and I know several residents who had kids in medical school and more in residency!
Hello Dr. Tooley. Did your co-resident take some time off after her pregnancy? How accommodating is Med School in letting students have a few weeks off for their labor and getting adjusted before coming back to school? If a student has a baby after their 4th year, are they allowed to maybe have a year off before their residency begins without giving up their residency spot? Thank you for your response Dr. Tooley!
hey Andrea, I was wondering on how I could shadow doctors when you live abroad? I live in Switzerland right now and they want you to be able to speak German... I kind of shadow the school nurse but I'm not sure if that is enough for my CV:\
Hello ma'am, I hope you could answer some of questions on Med school. I have just arrived here in the US from Cambodia. To be a doctor in Cambodia, you just have to apply in after high school into an 8 years program university. I have finished 4 of it. ( we have no degree nor MCAT test.) I would like to ask you if there are some cases like me. And I am told I have to go to a four year university first and some have told me to study two years of community college before applying for university and then Med school. I would like some of your advices. And also, I would like to know if I were to be accepted in a four year university, will the name of my undergraduate school matter to med school? Best wishes to you, PS: should I get a GED first? And since I'm under 21, should I take the SAT?
Hi Andrea, I was wondering if you could possibly make a video about doctors with disabilities. I am currently studying midwifery in the UK and I work alongside obstetricians on my clinical placements. Studying medicine and going on to become an obstetrician is a bit of a pipe dream for me - it's something I am definitely interested in but I don't yet know if medicine is right for me, or if I am right for medicine. I also have epilepsy. So far this hasn't affected my midwifery training too much, apart from not being able to work night shifts for a short period of time, and I have been reassured that even with my epilepsy I can still become a competent midwife. It made me wonder - is this the same for doctors? My epilepsy is well controlled with medication, however, I do still have seizures every few months. Would this eliminate my chances of becoming an obstetrician, as it would present dangers while performing Caesarean sections and operative deliveries? Thanks, Rachel.
I feel like I've done nothing now. Did nothing at all in highschool and now I'm in a small college where there's only like three clubs I can join which I'm already in. Also it's hard for a freshman to get any type of internships idk what to do
I've only joined one club so far and one EC activity, I didn't do anything in high school except yearbook club, I have no medical experience whatsoever, no shadowing, nothing.
+Mustlehard Use that to your advantage to take a leadership role. Find a club that you are interested in and think could make a difference and set about starting a chapter in your school. It will show that you take initiative, you care about the community, make you unique in your application, and also be very rewarding to you personally!
How did you get into shadowing, i'm in high school right now and know i want to be in the medical field so i was wondering how i start with shadowing and all that?
How do you balance social life and family plans with medical school. I'm very family-oriented and I want a few kids (I'm female). Are medical school and residency do-able with this want?
I think it depends on what specialty you're going for. I've been into the Student Doctor Forums and they were able to start a family, specifically during residency while they're still "young".
You should make a video explaining the finances and expenses going into medical school. How do you pay for medical school? Is all of the money worth it?
Hey andrea . I'm in high school and you've inspired me and my aim is to get in medical school. I am from India and would like to know in which school of India had u been
Can you do a video about research? I keep watching different videos of pre meds talking about they always say research but I have no clue what they're talking about??? +Hailey Nott IDk where you're from but here you can get a bachelor in nursing then apply to med school
Omg thank u so much, this will help me a lot.
you came to Perú!!! I'm from Peru!! love you!
Could you give a sample semester outline of what classes you take leading up to graduation?
Hi,
way to go!!
How did you managed to shadow a surgeon?
u can sign up for summer programs that shadow doctors at ur local hospital if they offer it
I really enjoyed this video.
This was very helpful!
andrea, what do you think about taking a gap year between med and undergraduate?
+MintChocChip100 But it also allows more time during undergrad to take all the required courses and study.
I started flying in highschool too!
Wow you did so much 😦 amazing how you weren't lazy and how you worked so hard..
Hi Andrea! I absolutely love your videos and thank you so much for the great advice:)...... I was wondering if maybe you could interview a med student who majored in engineering and then went to medical school? That is kinda the path I wanna take but would love to hear some advice. Thank you!
You have such a cute personality. So nice and friendly
+MintChocChip100 Thanks so much for the great comment!
Hi Andrea,
I love your videos and they are very helpful!

I am a student at UNC Chapel Hill, and I am currently doing a biomedical
engineering degree. I really think this track is interesting, but not
for me. Part of the reason why I wanted to do this track was because I
really want to stand out apply to medical school. However, more that I
think about it I really want to major in Spanish, minor in Korean and
Japanese/Chemistry. I really have a strong affinity towards languages
and can already speak other languages like Hindi and Urdu fluently. I
really still feel like I want to continue with my dream of becoming a
doctor, however, should I major in language? I am so torn, please advise
me because I want to follow people's advises.

Great advice as always! Thank you!! :)
Andrea Can you do a video with pediatrician please.
I kind of shadow the school nurse but I'm not sure if that is enough for my CV:\
this was very helpful :) thank you so much :)
Did you work while you were in college ?
Hey Andrea! What happened to your video on the difference between nurses and doctor's? Would have loved to rewatch it :)
you sound like the perfect human in the health setting.
Hello ma'am, I hope you could answer some of questions on Med school.
I have just arrived here in the US from Cambodia. To be a doctor in Cambodia, you just have to apply in after high school into an 8 years program university. I have finished 4 of it. ( we have no degree nor MCAT test.)
I would like to ask you if there are some cases like me. And I am told I have to go to a four year university first and some have told me to study two years of community college before applying for university and then Med school.
I would like some of your advices. And also, I would like to know if I were to be accepted in a four year university, will the name of my undergraduate school matter to med school?
Best wishes to you,
PS: should I get a GED first? And since I'm under 21, should I take the SAT?
Hi your videos are so helpful
I really hope you can do an interview with an anesthesiologist it's something that really interests me
Thank you
Hi Andrea, I was wondering if you could possibly make a video about doctors with disabilities.
Could you do a video on how you were able to go on a trip with Orbis?
I feel like I've done nothing now. Did nothing at all in highschool and now I'm in a small college where there's only like three clubs I can join which I'm already in. Also it's hard for a freshman to get any type of internships idk what to do
I've only joined one club so far and one EC activity, I didn't do anything in high school except yearbook club, I have no medical experience whatsoever, no shadowing, nothing.
+Mustlehard Use that to your advantage to take a leadership role. Find a club that you are interested in and think could make a difference and set about starting a chapter in your school. It will show that you take initiative, you care about the community, make you unique in your application, and also be very rewarding to you personally!
thanks this help me to know myself.thanks and please upload more videos
How did you get into shadowing, i'm in high school right now and know i want to be in the medical field so i was wondering how i start with shadowing and all that?
Contact people. Call people and ask about it. Ask family if they have someone they could hook you up with
This is great! What AP exams did you take?
How do you balance social life and family plans with medical school. I'm very family-oriented and I want a few kids (I'm female). Are medical school and residency do-able with this want?
I think it depends on what specialty you're going for. I've been into the Student Doctor Forums and they were able to start a family, specifically during residency while they're still "young".
You should make a video explaining the finances and expenses going into medical school. How do you pay for medical school? Is all of the money worth it?
+Justin Costa Check out my interview with the white coat investor all about finances for med school! It's one of my latest videos!
what medical school did you go to?
Could you do a video on how you were able to go on a trip with Orbis
Hi, am a new subscriber and I am living your videos.I want to be a General surgeon and was wondering what type of doctor you are
Thanks for subscribing! I am an ophthalmologist :-)
I really want to go for my Pilot's license before graduating but I can't seem to find the time.
Can you do a video explainning everything about research?
Hi just wondering how did you apply to shadow a doctor? Thank you🙏
Hey andrea . I'm in high school and you've inspired me and my aim is to get in medical school. I am from India and would like to know in which school of India had u been
Do you feel that research must be done, or being a research assistant is just as good?
Can you do a video about research? I keep watching different videos of pre meds talking about they always say research but I have no clue what they're talking about??? You mentioned that it doesn't have to be medicine but still what is research about also if I volunteer at non profit and also in hospitals how do i put that in my resume and stuff like how will they know that I did it. Do they sing something?? Thank you so much I love your videos
Can you make a video about research and labs in college for pre-meds? Pleasee
Hey Andrea, I've really enjoyed watching your videos! I was wondering if you could give me more information on how you got your volunteer opportunity with Orbis. I would love you go abroad and volunteer.
How do you get to shadow doctors? Do you have to have family connections, or can you just email a random doctor/surgeon and ask?
Can you make a bid of all the classes and schedule was like
Any advice for shadowing? How can I start shadowing?
Hi! This is random but where did you buy your dry-erase/white board from? I really want to start practicing chemistry on it. Thanks!
+Nejat Alkadir I have one at home that I bought from Walmart (I think- it was years ago) but really when I talk about using the whiteboard to study, I use a whiteboard as big as possible, which means going to school and using the boards in classrooms.
