When I just found your channel and you casually said you've gotten married, graduated and are starting at the Mayo Clinic.... Hi, you are every single life goal I've ever had thanks.
Hi Andrea, just wanted to personally thank you - I hope you see this comment. My first few years of undergrad were a little rocky, and my grades were only ok. I was thinking about giving up on medicine. I watched this video before the beginning of this last school year and decided to try out your study strategy. I got straight A's for the first time in my life. It made me so happy, and now I am continuing on my path to become a physician. I now not only know how to study in a way that works for me, I also have the added confidence in myself, knowing I can achieve my dreams. Thank you for dedicating your time to help others through these videos - you are truly impacting lives. You are such an amazing person, and you will be an amazing doctor without a doubt. God bless!!
I just LOVE your tip at the end re: I AM CAPABLE OF LEARNING ANYTHING. This mentality is SO RELEVANT, especially for young girls and womyn who are told that their brains just "aren't meant to be in engineering/math/physics." I sometimes would give up sooner about certain topics because somehow I believed this dialogue about "not being wired for it." I think a forward mentality is so important for any level of education, ESPECIALLY MEDICAL SCHOOL where the environment is so cut throat, you don't have enough hours in the day, everyone is above and beyond average, etc.
Double congratulations!! This video is gold for me. I will literally live by this. The white board is genius as is the question sheet and the practice questions. It should be taxing; it should be work. And it is truly so much better to get the answer wrong. And there is nothing I can't learn, it just depends on how hard I try, literally. I'm thankful to you for putting these videos up and I'm so glad I found them. Best of luck to you at work and with you marriage. You're practical inspiration to is all :)
This was encouraging. I just bombed my biochem final after doing well all semester. I didn't leave myself enough time to get active studying done. Time management is also key in med school. I slacked on my time management game this semester. But I've learned my lesson
Usually I am a misogynist but this girl is just so positive, uplifting, and encouraging that I have no choice but to like her. Seriously, great content and presentation.
I am not in med school but I still listen to your videos because they still help me study and are motivational. They motivate me to continue with my education as well as help me study better!
as a pre med student (2nd year), i find this video to be very helpful and act like a guidebook for me to get through medschool, i'm so grateful to stumbled across this vlog!
+Kai Dalkan kai i am a highschool student and have a couple of questions about undergrad. When you apply for undergrad at university they look at your highschool grades right?? And secondly what are things i could do in highschool to help me get into a prestigious university for undergrad???
abhi patel yes they'll look at your highschool grades and tbh in my contry here, its very competitive to get into medschool. I have to score straight A in 10 subjects especially biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry. Basically to get into medschool, you have to score A or at least B in every subject you're sitting for your exam.
We went from "Im officially a doctor now." to ....."Hotdog style, am I the only person that says that?" hahaha I died! That was adorbale. I say both too!
You're a gangster for making this video. High school was ridiculously easy for me and so was the SAT, so much so that I never really had to study (3.9+ unweighted GPA and 2100+ sat score). I never really learned how to learn. Freshman year in college was a struggle and it didn't help that I went to a top 5 school. I'm spending this summer shadowing a doctor/volumteering and really honing my studying skills. Videos like this really help. Tanks.
I'm in high school (aspiring to be a pediatrician someday), and this really helps me in studying for the finals in the upcoming weeks. Thank you so much Amanda! You are my inspiration and help me keep going when studying becomes a drag!
love that you write your questions on a sheet of paper instead of note cards! I used to use note cards, but they take up so much room and are just not sustainable when you're writing one question or term on a card; I'll start using the paper idea- saves paper and room :)
Thank you most sincerely for your words of encouragement and inspiration. I have recently started medical school, and I was at the brink of despair when I found your video. Three times I watched it, and each time I felt gradually more uplifted by your enthusiasm. I will not try to convey in detail how lost I felt by the overwhelming expectations, workload and change of pace that is starting medical school away from home. Know that your words have helped me overcome a very great obstacle. I am most grateful.
Omg. This is exactly how I study in high school. I thought my method wont work when I go to med school :D Im so happy that theres a doctor who used my methods in med school. This boosted my confidence. Thank you so much. We think very alike.
Just started med school and came across this video. Much of what you described is what I do already except for making the entire lectures into question format. Great idea! I'm going to try that starting tonight.
Dear Mrs. Tooley thank you so very much for all of the videos that you have posted. I cannot explain how much you have changed my life. I was struggling in high school my whole freshmen year but after I started to follow the program that you explained. I have much better study habits. My dream ever since I was 12 was to go to medical school and now seeing how much you have helped me I really believe I can do it. Thank you so much for being a great teacher and a person who is helping others out of the good of your heart. I really appreciate it.
Omg I know you posted this forever ago but your study tips are awesome!! I'm about to start my first year at UVA as a a pre-med and extremely scared I'm going to not be able to succeed like I want to but your study tips just filled me with so much confidence that if I use them I will succeed
I might not understand it today, it might take a few days but there is nothing I can't learn! I love that! I have printed that phrase out and will put it on my desk while I'm studying for the mcat (for the physics section especially). Thank you for being an inspiration
You are such an inspiration to me ! I'm a sophomore in high school and truly love the medical field! It's my dream to one day save someone's life. :) nobody in my family is a physician so I find the task more rigorous! Going into college I have to be assertive and focused! You definitely have helped me gain confidence in my self and always motivate me to study! I can't thank you enough you are truly a gift from the Angels above ! Thank you Andrea
I'm headed to college this fall and I plan on studying pre-med and eventually going to medical school to become a pathologist or pediatrician. I want to thank you so much for these tips and I will definitely these out. I love your positive attitude and you are making me excited to face the challenge that is approaching!
Every time I think I'm too old or I don't have time to study for mcat while in school, I watch your videos for inspiration. I appreciate you and your positivity so much! Thanks! ❤
Dear Dr. Andrea Tooley, Thank you for the study tips and showing the difference between active and passive studying. Honestly, I can admit having been a passive studious student myself in the past, however, I'm confident finally not being afraid to ask for help. After the past 7 years being in banking, I've decided to follow my passion of becoming a doctor, it's going to be new experience starting as a Pre-Med freshman at 25 but I'm cautiously optimistic. I look forward to watching more of your videos for tips/guidance/and support on this journey to become a doctor. Thank you again and congratulations on all your success and hard work.
Andrea- You are my inspiration!! I live in Indiana just like you and I am in the 10th grade. I've been watching you since the beginning and I also want to become a doctor. My goal is to become a bilingual pediatrician and you have given me the motivation to keep my grade up so I can ultimately reach my goals. Thanks so much!!! Your the best!!! -Elizabeth
thank you so much Andrea, i am in pre-med school i know i'm a long way from what your profession is right now. but i would like to say, that words are not enough to thank you for posting this video of yours, it has given me the push i needed to strive to learn again, and not just know things. learning is beautiful. thank you. :)
I'm in my 1st week of nursing school, here's a few things I noticed immediately.... apart from everyone telling us we'll have no lives because its so hard. The major (so far) component is chapter reading. After spending hours on youtube looking at what other nursing students suggest- i got no where. I wanted to know how to effectively get through 250 + pages of reading into just knowing the key concepts. So I thought, what do harder (like med school!) professions do to retain a lot of information in shorter amount of time. This has helped a lot! Defining the types of studying, to different ways to practice and application of information. Thank you a bunch!
+Andrea Tooley you read 250+ pages of readings?? How often?? Like every day?? How can you read so much and write notes for it so quickly?? I take 3 hours on 10 pages for AP world!
Great video. I'm from southern Indiana myself. Go Hoosiers! I'm starting the Respiratory Therapy program this fall, and these tips are gonna make the difference. I appreciate your hard work. Thanks! Congrats on your marriage and residency.
Congratulations!! And also, i forced my mom to buy be a small A4 sized whiteboard last year, it was £1, and definitely worth the price. I can't imagine revising without it.
I'm in 3rd year med school in India. I make condensed notes too. But the other thing...the Hot-dog idea...it's awesome too! Didn't know about it. You are amazing!
Just got accepted last month and I am SO glad to know some people still take old fashioned hand written notes in med school! Heard so many people only type notes because there's so much content, but all I've ever done is write. Gives me some hope :)
Great tips, thanks! Planning to be in medical school after spending three years as a registered nurse. Nursing school itself was taxing, but I see that there's a different preparation to med school as well. I'm quite excited, looking forward to learn what there is to learn. I hope you have good luck in your residency, you're going to be a good doctor. :)
What an accomplishment! Congrats. Im 28 and just barely back in school. I want to do Medical Illustration and Im in a beginning anatomy class now so these tips are really helpful. I thought about the whiteboard and now im going to be doing that for sure! thx again!
I'm dying in med school. You are so helpful. Definitely going to put the hotdog question method and the revising notes into play. I just wish I had seen your videos at the beginning of 1st semester.
I can't tell you how much I admire you. I really want to go medical school. I'm studying for the MCAT the second time around and I'm applying at the same time. Stressful, but I have faith. My problem recently has been motivation. Your personality is really similar to mine and your advice in this video is already kind of similar to how I study. I'm going to take your study tips and try to focus more today!
I always get asked about why I study the way I do, and I'm glad to see that you study the exact same way! I am trying for Dermatology and I'm excited that our study process is effective enough to get you through med school and residency at the Mayo Clinic!
Congratulations!!! --- I like your video, I'm a second year medical student and sometimes I don't know how to digest so many stuff in a very short time..you just brighten my road now....Thank you
I got accepted into the University of Utah & start this fall. I am so glad I stumbled upon your vlogs & blog because now I am going to make a much different choice with my major & I'm really intrigued by how you stay motivated & retain information. Super ready to kill it in college & I love following your journey in the medical world!! Thank you so much :)
This video has helped me so much thank you! Although I am major in French and minor art history, this method works for all type of subjects! It's amazing! I wasn't doing so great no matter how many times I'd read the text over and over again. It never actually stuck. Thank you for bumping my grades up! You are awesome
With the must up most respect. You are great!. You have this way of protecting yourself like a real person, completely down to earth and humble. Thank you for all the great tips. Best of luck in your residency and bless your marriage.
Thank you for this great video! Congrats on Mayo Clinic, you're such an inspiration! In the future, can you make a video about how you keep yourself motivated to eat healthy and workout when you have so many things to do? Thanks!
I'm so glad I found ur channel it's so informative and u aticulate ur words in a way a 15 yr old like me can comprehend I'm literally trying to watch all ur vids
Congratulations on Mayo Clinic!! I will be starting my first year in medical school this fall at UK; thank you very much for the advice on transitioning from college to medical school studying. And no, you're not the only one who says hamburger and hot dog, haha.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!! you help me a lot with your videos i am a third year med school having a real struggle with pathology and pharmacology and to be honest all the subjects lol ...you are always a big help whenever i am depressed thank you very very much you are always inspiring me :)
Good videos, I'm considering medical school and was realizing I need to improve my studying habits and time management. I can do it. You seem like a very positive, motivated person. Thanks for the tips :)
You're so happy and cheerful, and with all that studying... I wish I was a fraction as happy as you are through med school. And thank you for the tips, by the way!
I REALLY LOVE YOU!!! I am brazilian and I am going to be a doctor someday and you make it a lot easier for me! I love your channel, it's so helpfull! Please, never stop! Thank you so much!! xoxo
Hi I am a nutrition and dietetics sophomore and I am planning to proceed to med school after being a Registered Dietician.Annnnd you inspired me to strive hard ^^ thanks a lots :3
Very useful! I do something similar with the study sheets but had never thought about the "hot-dog" folded question pamphlet. I'll have to try that out, seems very helpful.
You're the sweetest and the best help ever! I'm currently struggling in college and your advice/tips help me out and encourage me! Thanks for making these videos!
Wow your videos was so great. I'm currently repeating 2nd year at medical school and it has been such a blow trying to learn all the work and especially when i come to exams. But your video has shown me that i've literally just been passively studying (aka cramming) thanks for the wonderful insight
Thanks so much for the advice! It's nice to see how others study and compare them to my own way to see what else i can improve on. You're very funny and adorable! Congratz on your marriage, graduation, great video, and looking forward to more!
i love all your videos because this helps me a lot. i will be so helpful for me specially that im going to med school this opening. i use to read and read before but it doesn't make sense until i found this video that helps me understand . thank you for helping people who get rid of studying like me
I started this video a long time ago but apparently I didn't end up watching it entirely through. I wish I would have watched it all sooner because I've never thought/heard of doing Question/Answer sheets for study notes (I guess I have always had sub par study habits), so thank you! This should be so helpful. Hope you're doing well :)
oh my God I know i like you already when the first time I watched you several weeks ago (in your reasons why you want to be ophthalmologist, and it helped me a lot, thank you), but after i watched a lot more the following weeks, I completely head over heels over you, thank you for all the tips on studying
You are so incredible! Medical school and the MCAT seemed like such impossible things to achieve to me and my confidence when it comes to my academic ability (or lack of) didn't really help much but you make everything seem actually possible and I just wanted to thank you for the inspiration you give in every video!! I subscribed as soon as I saw it please continue making videos!!
Watching you gave me such a boost of confidence Andrea! You have some great energy and it is contagious! Best wishes in your professional and personal life! Thanks for your awesome advise!
LOVE YOUR ENERGY.... I love that you have personality and are energetic and youthful... so many med students are just blaaa.... but you seem to have it all, and that wow personality... you are a great!!!!
Andrea Tooley i have couple of questions for you, so, umm, did you get in to university at the first time trying? And how old were you when you got in? Because i'm only 15 so, but i read medicine already tho :D
OMG this is actually an inspiring vid! Thank you Andrea! I'm surviving first semester of med school and i need to start doing this!!! It's a brutal amount of info... need to learn to work hard my god!
You are the definition of the word "Study".
When I just found your channel and you casually said you've gotten married, graduated and are starting at the Mayo Clinic.... Hi, you are every single life goal I've ever had thanks.

MAYO CLINIC I AM SOOOOOO DEAD YOU ARE EXTRAORDINARY
I love the "I can learn anything" mentality.. it is s true!! Also, great study tips :)
What I have found to help save time with "question form" studying is to get out my phone & record my voice asking the question. Saves hours.
I just LOVE your tip at the end re: I AM CAPABLE OF LEARNING ANYTHING.
This mentality is SO RELEVANT, especially for young girls and womyn who are told that their brains just "aren't meant to be in engineering/math/physics." I sometimes would give up sooner about certain topics because somehow I believed this dialogue about "not being wired for it."
I think a forward mentality is so important for any level of education, ESPECIALLY MEDICAL SCHOOL where the environment is so cut throat, you don't have enough hours in the day, everyone is above and beyond average, etc.
I am in Canada. Do u know anything about Canada?

Me too! I feel like my grades aren't high enough to get into a good college like I have around a 3.6
Her name is Andrea, not Amanda.... lol
love that you write your questions on a sheet of paper instead of note cards! I used to use note cards, but they take up so much room and are just not sustainable when you're writing one question or term on a card; I'll start using the paper idea- saves paper and room :)
Trying out the Question Sheet method. Seems like a fantastic method! I think it'll be a great addition to normal notes!
Thank you most sincerely for your words of encouragement and inspiration. I have recently started medical school, and I was at the brink of despair when I found your video. This was so helpful. as a high school senior, with finals worth 50%, this helps me organize and reorganize my existing studying methods. THANK YOU!!!!
Congrats on Graduating and your Marriage.

nothing I can't learn!
I love that! I have printed that phrase out and will put it on my desk while I'm studying for the mcat (for the physics section especially).
Thank you for being an inspiration
So glad you like it!! Good luck on the MCAT!

Thanks so much!!! Your the best!!!

brownliz19981 That's an amazing goal!!! Go you!
"You are capable of learning anything, there isnt anything you cant learn" I wrote that inside my notebook, very motivational!!!

Congrats on your marriage, graduation, and Mayo residency!! You are so inspiring!
Andrea you are the BEST! I'm currently going back to school for pre-med and your videos are always the most inspiring. Thank you so much!!
Sitting here revising my step 1 study plan after some not so thrilling NBMEs. Lol. This is so inspiring. Thank you.
I love the Q & A sheets!!! I typically just write out my notes and condense them before finals, but the Q & A sheets in addition to it? That's genius!
I'm in pre-med and I find your videos so incredibly helpful!! Thank you!!
So glad you like them!
You're awesome and a great inspiration. As a biomedical/pre - dental major all these tips are helping me reevaluate my study approach. Thanks much
Congratulations!!
And also, i forced my mom to buy be a small A4 sized whiteboard last year, it was £1, and definitely worth the price. I can't imagine revising without it.

I'm dying in med school. You are so helpful. Definitely going to put the hotdog question method and the revising notes into play. I just wish I had seen your videos at the beginning of 1st semester.
I watched this video on fast mode and within first 5 minutes, I was so engaged, I had to subscribe! Thanks for the tips.
I learned that this term in pre-med, active studying is the way to go. You will get either full scores or at most 6 questions wrong. This is so good.
I can't tell you how much I admire you. I really want to go medical school. I'm studying for the MCAT the second time around and I'm applying at the same time. Stressful, but I have faith. Very useful! I do something similar with the study sheets but had never thought about the "hot-dog" folded question pamphlet. I'll have to try that out, seems very helpful.
idk why but you have motivated me to do better and to believe in myself more. your quotes by the end of the vid made me cry. :( send help.

Wow your videos was so great. I'm currently repeating 2nd year at medical school and it has been such a blow trying to learn all the work and especially when i come to exams. But your video has shown me that i've literally just been passively studying (aka cramming) thanks for the wonderful insight
why didn`t I find this before my 1st year at med school?!
Andrea, your videos are very useful and supermotivating!
Girl, you're amazing! Please never stop making videos!!!!
I really want to be a doctor as you and now i'm still in high school, and i think that your advice gave me very strong belief as well :)
you are awesome, i'm studying chemistry and microbiology right now and i felt overwhelmed but this video really helped!!!!!! thank you !!!
