  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2015 Volvo S60 T6 is a unique car because under the hood is both a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0L engine that produces just over 300 HP. In this TFLcar review Nathan spends a week behind the wheel of this unique Volvo and comes away impressed by the new engines power and torque.

    As would most people, I would probably pass this up on looks alone. BUT having owned a Volvo in the past (the xc90) I can say that basing it off that experience, I would purchase this car in a heartbeat. It was fun to drive, got decent mileage, felt very well put together, and was more than reliable. We never had one issue with that car and put over 160,000 miles on it. Never left any of us stranded.

    Electronic assisted steering is not to save fuel. It's just less expensive and easier to maintain. If it takes you say 5 ft-lb of torque to turn the wheel, the assistance will require to put out the same power to compensate, same difference energetically

  • @glsracer
    @glsracer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Goatmonkey2112, Volvo actually offers a larger S80 for very similar money. Also if you're in to SUVs, the XC60 is around the same size and cost but has much more rear seat room. My 2014 XC60 has enough room for a 6 footer to sit behind my driver seat and I'm 6'2".

    • @goatmonkey2112
      @goatmonkey2112 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The S80 starts at about $8000 more for the same engine level. I didn't look into the options, just the base trim level. But the S60 is listed on Edmunds with rear seat legroom of 33.5 inches, and the S80 is listed at 35.0 inches. Does it cost Volvo and extra $8000 to add that extra inch and a half of legroom?

    • @glsracer
      @glsracer 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you compare base trims this may be true however I don't remember the difference being that much more than an S60. I'm talking about T6 Platinum trim. I looked at all three and spec'd decently, they are all close in price. I believe the difference in base price is Volvo compensating for their lack of small car line up (S40, V50, etc) by allowing a lower cost of entry on the S60 and V60.

    I really like your reviews. One concern I have is that the infotainment system seems to be unecessarily complicated. I currently drive a lexus 350 GS Sporrt and the voice activation for music is a charm. i am having trouble understanding the process in the T6. However I do want to get this case as it is much more fun to drive.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah... but I wish they never made the T6 FWD. I own a 2011 T6 AWD and IT'S PERFECT! I do put a lot of miles on it in Colorado commuting from the foothills to Denver almost every day, which is something I want to do less because I want to own it for as long as possible. But I average 27.5 now and have gotten it up to 28.3 when they say 18 city and 26 highway, so I do question why you go and make a front wheel drive model, especially with so much power. Hopefully the facelift coming on the S60 (I'm guessing 2017-2018?) will still give a powerful engine variant other than the R-Design. The T6 variants like my own prove that you do not need to reduce engine size to achieve efficiency!

      dont know about the states, but in europe for a few months now you can order it with AWD, the new T6 and the 8 speed auto, what you have is the OLD T6, however when the got the new T6 on this car with the new geartronic 8 speed auto they had some problems with the platform, they could not mate these 2 with the AWD system, however that problem has since been taken care of and now you can have all 3, T6, G8 and AWD

    Basically every VW and Audi that has a TSI engine under the hood (which is basically every model now) is supercharged and turbo charged. Almost every turbo car from audi and VW from 2006 and up is both. (Very few models from 2006-7 of VW and Audi have a FSI engine which I believe isn't supercharged. Anybody who is actually surprised or interested in this just google TSI engine. I'm not 100% sure on the years that I said.

    • @mbutryn
      @mbutryn 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HenkJanPit 1.8 TSI in VW group is turbocharged only.

    • @fundiver198
      @fundiver198 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      HenkJanPit That is correct. And driving both the 122 hp 1,4 and the 160 hp 1,8, I also dont really see, why on earth they would need a supercharger. Because there is lots of low down torque and no noticeable turbo lag at all.
      I suspect though, that if you go to a much higher specific output, as Volvo has done with this 2,0 liter engine (150 hp pr. liter vs. less than 100 hp pr. liter for the mentioned VW engines), then turbolag really becomes an issue, because you need a very big turbo.
      And that is where the more complicated and expensive solutions come in. Either in the form of adding a supercharger or in the form of adding multible turbochargers.
      BMW makes a 3,0 liter 6-cylinder diesel now with no less than 3 turbochargers for its special M-line series. The power output is an almost ridicolous 370 hp.

      We've been through this innumerable times. Jersey is where Team TFL go to boost the cars they test. Then they take them down to San Diego and get rid of them. Lately they've tried boosting cars in Michigan, but security was too tight.

      GT6SuzukaTimeTrials No, Team TFL boosts cars for all the other tester. They provide the auto's and then dispose of them. It's a very big operation they've got going. Team TFL are the reason California has such a big market in lightly used cars.

    • @njo2994
      @njo2994 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You can do that. But the build quality of a Camry compared to a Volvo is worlds different. Volvo's are very premium compared to anything Toyota makes (minus any Lexus model).

      Monsieur Africain as have I. And my family has owned many Toyota's and Honda's as well. From Tacoma's to Camry's and even the 2014 Corolla. Volvo is superior in build quality in every way. No comparison. Its a premium brand. Toyota is an economy brand.

    • @MalamIbnMalam
      @MalamIbnMalam 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I disagree, Toyota is renowned for its quality especially in other nations. In America, they water down Toyota quite a bit because of Lexus. However, in other countries Toyota is far more premium and reliable. Compare the leather interior of a Camry from the mid 90s it's still intact whilst the leather interior of a Volvo 850 is cracked and peeled. Add that to the horrible reliability of Volvos and the fact that their repairs are expensive for no reason. In the end what you are paying for is name for a car built with less quality. It's all a game really. There is no way in heck that a Volvo which still uses outdated tech is anywhere near the quality of a Toyota. I'd much rather invest in something that is built with quality (which you describe) Toyotas last longer than Volvos, fact that means they are built with more quality and durability.

    this is basically a $50,000 volkswagen jetta on steroids. yes it has the power, yes it has really classy interior. but at the end of the day it's a front wheel drive subcompact. for just a tiny bit more you can get Mercedes C400 or BMW 335i with all wheel drive and usable rear seats. Benz and Bimmer are all-rounders. This Volvo hits some very high marks and fails miserably in other areas. i almost got the V60 T5 Drive E but that car had a unique body style, at least unique for US market. unfortunately for S60 it just competes too directly with 3 series and C class which are the benchmark.

    • @usernameuser5573
      @usernameuser5573 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're looking at it far to objectively.
      It's not a Volkswagen, it's a Volvo. It has its own history and its own particular style.
      People don't buy cars just because of numbers, they buy cars because they make them feel a certain way.
      That's what this car does.
      It's obviously not the fastest car for the money, but it has a degree of charm that cannot be recorded and documented.

    • @g1981c
      @g1981c 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      UsernameUser the way i see it cars up to $20,000 are boxes on wheels and you pay for fuel economy and reliability $20,000 to $100,000 you're paying for luxury, style, safety, performance and features, and above $100,000 you're paying for prestige and exclusivity etc. ( continued )
      you said the Volvo has a certain charm ... and it does, it has a certain quality to interior that is missing in other cars ... the seats feel like they belong in a $150,000 GT car, not a subcompact family car. so what's the problem ? ( cont )
      the problem is Volvo got the cart before the horse. yes the seats have amazing shape, padding, bolstering and stitching - but this is not an Aston Martin - it is not what people need in a front wheel drive subcompact. what people need in a front wheel drive subcompact is low price, period. ( cont )
      now if this was a $150,000 V12 rear wheel drive GT car then yes, the quality of the stitching on the seats would come into question etc. but it's not that car. ( cont )
      i wish BMW made seats like Volvo does and i wish Volvo had the weight and torque distribution and steering feel of a 3 Series or C class. but ultimately if you're buying a small car with 300 horsepower you're looking for handling, not comfort. and if you're looking for comfort you buy a car like Lexus ES or Acura TLX. yes they are ugly, but if style is what you're after then again you buy an Audi etc. the Volvo basically just doesn't make a lot of sense.

    • @usernameuser5573
      @usernameuser5573 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      g1981c Look at Alfa Romeo
      They're not the fastest thing for your money. They're not all that reliable. They are missing certain features that any decent car should have.
      But people still love them.
      Why?
      Because not everything makes sense on paper.
      Some things defy all logic.
      I think that the Volvo S60 T6 is suburb. I don't have a good reason for liking it, I just do.
      Feel free to admire whatever you like. You are plainly not influenced by the same inexplicable affinity for this automobile as I am.

      g1981c You have to live with what you buy. Cars are damn expensive, so it's always good to know you don't hate what you have to drive on a daily basis.
