That was my thought too. Also the controls and pretty white surfaces behind the cooktop. Heat anything and it will be all over that stuff. Spaghetti sauce for instance.
I thought the same about the cook top. Also, fire hazard; too close to linen.

@Ready.Set.Van. I've got 3 questions. What's the name of the lightweight plywood you mentioned using and is there a US distributor on the east coast(I'm a bit west of you in PA)? Does the lighter weight core retain screws as well as regular ply?
Actually a 4th question. Who makes the latches you used on the galley drawers?
@@jamesgill5511 The lite ply we use is really fantastic. It machines well and takes fasteners very well. The cores are slightly softer than a true hardwood ply and as a result are a little more likely to accidentally over tighten (strip) out the hole if you are not careful. That said, with a shop of 10 builders we have nearly 0 issues with that. Size up your fasteners when possible and choose a slightly coarser thread. One another note, the veneer has a very nice finish but it is thin a prone to tearout. That's not an issue on the CNC but if you're cross cutting on a table saw you'll want to take that into account. Shot us an email and we'll get you info for our distributor. As you can imagine sourcing the wood has been quite a challenge recently. I expect we'll begin buying container loads directly from Asia sometime in 2022.
RV Labs makes the latches. We love them and have probably installed 500 at this point. We buy them through expedition upfitter who is the US distributor. They are releasing a new improved version that should have slightly better action. With the OG design we just put a dab of graphite lube on the mech. and they are a dream.
Are you building your own van or starting a shop?
@@ReadySetVan I do woodworking as a hobby and my uncle is looking to remodel his Bounder Class A including replacing some cabinets. Any weight saving is obviously a bit of fuel savings and certainly can't hurt handling. Right now my own van is an empty shell but eventually, after I get the drivetrain sorted out and bring it to Fiberine for the high top, I'll be building that out.
As for tear out of the veneer, I'm very accustomed to it from the cheaper big box store stuff so I always use a higher tooth count blade and a zero clearance insert when cross cutting ply. For both my uncle's Cass A and my van everything will be painted anyway, so hiding a bit of tear out isn't really an issue. My main interest again is more for the weight savings.
One day when I can afford one of these vans you’ll be the guy I call, best van build if seen by a long way, it’s absolutely perfect great job!

I know George from Humble Road would be thinking about access with that sealed ceiling and what not, lol. Two different philosophies. Which one you like better is a matter of taste really. But this build is just beautiful. Love it!

Yes you are right, i notice mostly don't have a divider to separate the kitchen and the bedroom. So there is alittle of privacy

Love the finishes on this unit- the option jar under the sink is a good option for more of true 4 season Van.
The shower toilet area is big… and a big luxury… although trying to decide between that or more storage when you are a family is hard.

I would like to see a van conversion with a twin bed for an older person and bath in the back, we are not all young and the king across the back is just to hard to get in and out of. With a twin down one side could also be a sofa during the day, then across from the twinbed could be storage

I would have an outdoor propane stove to cook anything greasy like hamburger or bacon otherwise my bedding will be smelling like whatever i cooked …can you imagine crab legs but to eaches own …the van is absolutely gorgeous awesome job on everything definitely quality

Wow, what a beautiful build! I really love everything about it. Especially impressed by the step for the bed. I rented a van where I had to climb up on some seats to get to the bed. I learned how to do it but it would not have been possible for anyone with any kind of mobility issues. And the little dinette is wonderful! Thanks for sharing this, Patrick!

Great quality but several features were 'significant upgrades' (not standard features), and why no exhaust fan above the cooking range AND the shower/toilet space? That targeted exhaust ventilation is constantly overlooked in builds and very important.

Very beautiful and stunning work on this jewel.... although personally, I feel that the two-burner stovetop is huge and needs a splash guard between the bed and the stovetop. That would just be my personal preference but this is an amazing set up!

Clean build and nice layout. Well thought out. Finish looked nice and it all seemed fine. The only thing I would have changed is having a lifting bed. That would make the rear a multi purpose usage space. All it takes is a clever table and the lift bed. Lounge area during the day, or work space, a dinner table or a great place for board games or dinner parties. And when night comes lower the bed and go to sleep. No stress making the bed first, and redoing it the next morning. Even if you got kids they can go sleep on the couch below the the lifting bed and you got sleeping for the whole family.
Stay tuned :) We're developing a lifting bed layout right now in a sprinter 170 which is very much like what you describe! 4 seatbelts and will sleep up to 5. It should be out in a few months.
Very nice BUT there should be a separator piece between the stove and the bed to avoid any bedding catching on fire while cooking. Also should be covers on the electrical items behind the stove. Just safety thoughts.

NJOA, Hello PATRICK, well BEN has done a beautiful job, I just happen to LOVE WALNUT, no PROPANE Means NO EXCESS MOISTURE , & usually in the RAM vans the REAR BED, is fine with me, don’t have to make it up,nor having to convert ANYTHING to sleep, great solar & LITHIUM batteries, adds cost but you can be off grid,easily. Thanks for showing it 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I would want the water fill cap outside on the side of the van...having it inside the rear doors means you lose all your heat inside the van on cold days.

The cook top is located right next to the bed without even a heat/splash guard. Not good! Beautiful work though. Love the look and the quality of the craftsmanship.

I like the set up but I would prefer doors on the shelves over the table and a smaller faucet since there's an indoor and outdoor shower. I'd like to know the mpg for gas and diesel. Do they make hybrids?
