    One thing that I really like is how you see Scott using the stuff he gets from Gaston really showing how much of it is not just publicity stunt (here the red crayon for marking board). I really hate when creators I watch are showing stuff and then you never see it ever again as if not good or actually useful.
    Really eager to see that house being closed.

    The square base that Comes with the Makita routers is actually a base that can tilt you you can do chamfers with a straight bit. I used mine as a fixed base in a router table. Also check out their 195136-9 parallel guide. Its the big brother for the one that Comes with the router.

    Set your stops up first. Then transfer your lines onto the stops for the bottom of the weather boards. Plunk a line between the stops and the bottom of your weather board will be nice and straight.
    If you weatherboards vary in width at all they will still be on the same line and straight

    How come you don’t use plywood and they house wrap? Because in the USA I need to meet code.

    • @KungFuKiwii
      @KungFuKiwii 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In the US they use plywood on the exterior walls to add "shear strength" to the wall frame, known as shear panel. Often, US framing construction does not use horizontal timber between the studs (what Scott refers to as "nogs"). In New Zealand, we do use horizontal timber and sometimes diagonal metal strapping to "brace" the wall frame and add shear strength. These are just different methods of engineering and construction. From a waterproofing standpoint, it is expected that our building wrap and siding material will be sufficient to prevent water from entering the framing of the house. I'm not too sure if the plywood is used as part of the waterproofing system in the US, maybe someone can enlighten me haha

    In the UK we tend to start cladding at the bottom then fix the length of clad with paslode nails approximately 20mm from the top of the board at every 400mm stud then when you lay the next clad board in place with a 40mm overlap you don’t see the fixing so no need for filling or seeing fixing points...🤷🏼‍♂️ great video and good detail to your work I’m just saying how it’s done in the UK as a general rule

    • @mattjns
      @mattjns 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There’s no need for sheathing when building to Australian & NZ standards.
      We build according to an engineered brace plan that is set out according to a region’s maximum wind load etc.
      A house will have potentially dozens of speed brace, hoop-iron/cross brace and ply brace (what you call sheathing) all around the frame, including internally.
      We would only generally ply and entire house if the cladding requires it.
