      It was my first choice, but sadly not available in my region. The 7800x3d melting problems with other brands, caused them all to sell out.

    I definitely understand your attachment to Asus boards. In my experience of building PCs the motherboard brand seems to be one of the things builders tend to go back to again and again if they have good experiences early on. Your affinity for Asus boards are the same for me with MSI boards. I just love them from having so many in the past and the MSI BIOS I can navigate it with my eyes closed at this point. The only other board brand that I have used other than MSI is Gigabyte, so I definitely understand where you are coming from.

      Only reason I didn't go MSI was because the Carbon is so damn expensive.

    Thank you for sharing your experience. I have a question: Where do you get that red piece you use as a cover for the CPU, I mean I know is not a CPU cover, but I don't know the name, but looks nice and very practical, is that coming apart, or with the mobo, CPU, cooler or case? I did my research but without any success at all.

    Hey nice video man! Excited to see someone else giving asrock a chance, they’ve definitely come a long way in the pat few years and i really love a lot of their products especially their 7900xtx’s, beating out some of the other top of the line partners for amd in terms of board design, pcb, and vrms. Their motherboards are also priced super well for what they offer and their b650 hdv m.2 which is like 125 dollars is easily one of the best budget motherboards for up to 7800x3d. Although their bios / overall high end OC features may not be up there entirely with the big brands their budget and mid range is amazing

The Corsair iCUE H100 Capellix does fit in the C70 case. CPU temsp are quite cool under load - never above 80F in Aida64 stress test. Got a Nvidia 3090FE for video. Got three Asus monitors in surround view. May need to modify the case to replace the power button.

    How do you find the airflow with the case? Got this case with my first pc (hand me down from someone that was built almost a decade ago) and i swapped to a different case a little while ago but im loving this case again and want to switch back.
    My setup is an i9 13900 with a 240mm aio and a 7900xtx and I'd be switching to it from a cooler master h500 which im sure has much better airflow.
    I want to get new front case fans for it and need to know if using a bottom fan is an absolute must.

    I always loved that case. One thing I noticed is you didn't do a test of the motherboard before putting it in? The build looks great!

    Thanks for the mini shoutout. Sorry to hear you had so many problems with that board. I use those same usb ports and haven't had any issues, although I don't even come close to using all of the ports at the same time. Perhaps that was just more than that chipset can handle? One thing I did notice is that the chipset can run pretty hot with multiple usb and nvme drives, and if you combine that with the small heatsink and absolutely no airflow (since it's blocked by the gpu) it could potentially cause those issues. Hope the Asrock board continues to serve you well!

    Just got a Steel Legend and 7800X3D for myself, will be building it this weekend when the RAM comes in. Any advice/suggestions on the BIOS setup? I've messaged the company that makes the RAM I am getting (64Gb 2x32 from TeamGroup), and AsRock as well, and confirmed the RAM will work fine. Not looking to overclock anything, just want it to run stable and at 'maximum non-overclocked' performance, if that makes sense.

    • @Badger8th
      @Badger8th  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's probably some small things that can be enabled without OC, but I'm afraid I'm still very new to the world of AMD boards so most of my settings are stock. Don't forget to update BIOS before you change anything. I have EXPO enabled and I used the included fan tuner on the motherboard to tweak the fan curves. I also enabled some of the power settings so my USBs and RGB stay off when the PC is off. Thats about it!

    Hi, I just watch your video and I would like to ask you about your experience with this mobo and cpu when u first boot it up. Did you update the bios immediately or did you install windows first? I just bought this mobo, with the same cpu and RAM sticks, but i dunno if I should do a flashback bios update, or install windows and after update the bios. Also, do you remeber which bios version the board came with? I just bought the mobo and I'm a little concerned with all the 7800x3d burning up thing

    • @Badger8th
      @Badger8th  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I installed windows first, then did the BIOS update. I don't remember which BIOS version it shipped with, but it was definitely not close to recent.
      Since the issue with the 7800x3D revolved around using the SOC voltage on EXPO, as long as you run stock settings until you update your BIOS, you'll be fine.

    MSI x670e Tomahawk has been super solid for me. It was launched only this spring, later than other boards, and maybe it does not have those issues that early boards do. Memory overclocking and overall stability has been the best of any boards I've tried, and I've tried a few AM5 ones. My little 7600 has been doing wonders on it, 4800Mhz Hynix OEM RAM running at 6400Mhz with nice timings, and boosting comfortably to 7600x frequency levels. With that RAM and at that frequency is't faster than 5800x3d in almost everything.
    Having said that, I still think the board is overpriced for what it is at 300$. (350 here where I live), but that can be said about every AM5 and recent 1700 boards, unfortunately.

    • @Badger8th
      @Badger8th  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah! I like MSI so I definitely gave the Tomahawk a look. Sadly with only 6 USB ports it would have been identical to the amount of working ports on my ASUS, so it wasn't the right fit for me.

      @@Badger8th Great to hear! One thing I've noticed about mid- and upper-tier boards is they've started to put the cmos battery under rear i/o cover. If the battery went bad, you'd literally have to pull your motherboard out of the case, remove the back plate, and remove the top i/o cover to get to it. On top of that, the battery itself is wired and has its own connector to the board, so chances are you don't have one of those lying around. No thanks. Another thing they've started doing is not providing an optical port for audio. My computer's audio is connected to my stereo and that's the connection I use. Anyway, thanks for the response. I just might be a first-time Asrock owner.

    Man PC building is fun until it isn't right! I way overspent on the x670 Gene because I love the high end mATX boards going back to the x58 Gene. The lates bios for it has been working fine with a 7700x and 6000 c30 ram. The PCIE lane thing with using all your m.2s disabling either some PCIE 16 lanes or losing sata ports has been a thing for a while now. Power users have lamented that a true HEDT platform hasn't come out since Threadripper on AMD with all its PCIE lanes and x299 on Intel. Both were super expensive of course and the also pretty expensive 'consumer' CPUs such as AM5 and LGA 1700 all have fewer lanes available while actually performing better in a lot of tasks being newer etc etc.

      Except a possibly bending socket on lga1700. And a powervirus without undervolting ;)
      Both have issues, it happens. Its more how they deal with it (and yea, AMD and bugfixing also dont have the best track record, i completely agree there).

    • @hamslice839
      @hamslice839 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Daisudori yes and a $7 cpu frame fixes that issue. Unfortunately, you can't fix AMD's issues as easily. I use TVB points and run 5.8ghz dynamically across all cores as long as it stays under 75C and while gaming it does, but I do have a custom loop. The i9 feels smoother and more fluid when gaming vs my 5950x. It's night and day. I'm sure the 7800x3d provides a similar experience but I'm just not willing to find out personally this time.

    • @Daisudori

      @@hamslice839 My friend has a 7700x system and its performing well also. We have (almost) the same gpu (6900 xt and 6950 xt)
      The 7700 does as good in gaming with no weird stutters on his system and its also been rocksolid. The one gripe: boot times are abit longer with the memory checking, but its been improved every bios update so far.
      When tuned properly the power usage between my 13700k and his 7700x is neglible while gaming (same 60-80w)
      In fact the intel is more efficient in productivity since it completes faster and its pulling 180-190watt UV vs 140 on the ryzen and completes stuff alot faster with the e cores helping.
      Ofcourse u can set the ryzen to eco but it loses quite some clock speed on MT on his sample.
      I think both are safe this time around. the upside for amd u dont need to go custom loop with top tier vrm board to cool their best gaming or productivity cpu which is going save quite abit in cost. a 7800x3d will be happy with some hyper 212 already. a 7950x will need abit beefier but not intel levels.
      So its really: Pick your poison, this round atleast.
