Preston is simply brilliant. It is all over the New Testament how the writers fully expected Jesus to return while they were still alive. That idea came from Jesus and the Old Testament.

I agree with you Sean, I see so much pointing to the church being the kingdom and it standing forever.
I see inconsistencies in the idea that it was all done for Israel and we are the beneficiaries but that stops after AD70.
I don’t think it ever stops. If it stops then IO people would be more correct than the rest of us. It’s eternal kingdom with kings and priests.

Babylon was old covenant Jerusalem. Revelation 11:8 "Their bodies will lie in the street of the great city-figuratively called Sodom and Egypt-where their Lord was also crucified."
Where was the Lord crucified? Sodom? Egypt? Jerusalem? Yes, Jerusalem.

Sean, kind of on the same journey as you 😅 from Adventist ( 4th gen) - to Preterism and now starting RCIA in fall - and seeing the church as a fulfillment -
Love the whole conversation and it would be awesome to have someone like Scott Hahn or brant Pitre on… I do think that Scott Hahn is at least open to partial preterism - as he has mentioned that in his Mass study / and Revelation 😊

46:46 The 1000 yr reign from my studies seems to coincide with Abraham. Abe was promised 1000 generations, but when you count it in time is was 42 generations, likewise Christs reign of 1000 years in time began 31AD when he was enthroned on the cross until 73AD 42 years later. Also referring back to Enoch 10 lets us in on the timing of the final judgement when we pair it with Luke’s genealogy Enoch to Christ.

Acts 20:28-30, 'Watch out for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God that he obtained with the blood of his own Son. I know that after I am gone fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Even from among your own group men will arise, teaching perversions of the truth to draw the disciples away after them.'
Paul's prophetic utterance certainly came to pass with doctrines concerning Mary and the false invention of a special class of Sainthood and Priesthood and headlong fall into the institution of Christendom.

    • @workmansong
      @workmansong  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

To be fair, in the preterist interpretation, the fulfillment of this prediction necessarily had to be before AD 70, the great apostasy referenced throughout scripture. However, this reference to “wolves” referred to Judaizers, who taught obedience to the Laws of Moses. This is a recurring theme in scripture and this understanding is not exclusively preterist either. I think you’d be surprised how scriptural Mariology is, and how large Mary looms in eschatology. Luke certainly felt Mariological fulfillments were worth documenting in his gospel, whose purpose was to be “an account of the things that have been fulfilled” - that is, eschatologically - “among us”. Perhaps I’ll talk more about this in a future video! Thanks for listening.

Preterism, like every view, contains some truths. But to say everything is fulfilled is very problematic. The Futurist has little truth, if any. Perhaps the Historicist view is more balanced. REV 1:19 tells John to write down what he sees now and what is to come later. What that 'later' means, definitively, is not made clear.
Catholicism is a bigger issue. Christendom, which is the progeny of the Roman prostitute, has its origin in pagan superstition, the religious institutions which began at Babel.
The true church is the body of believers, the body of Christ. This is the church to which you should want to belong.

Scott Hahn is undoubtedly preterist leaning. His book on Revelation makes that clear. For Catholics, the ending of the age of Mosaic sacrifice i(70 AD) inaugurated the exclusively Eucharistic Age of Paschal Sacrifice, where Christ raptured his saints, on and under the earth, into His Body at the Father's Side, above the earth. That is, going forward down the aisle (as it were) to receive Jesus coming down from heaven in the form of bread, the Spirit gathers the believer into Christ's mystical Body, and then thereafter, Jesus commends him or her back down into the world to minister to his suffering but Wanna-Be future members.

56:57 - Are Preterists over spiritual? Or, are non-prets UNDER spiritual?
1 Corinthians 2:12-16 MEV - Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, so that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God. 13 These things also we proclaim, NOT in the words which MAN ’s WISDOM teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, COMPARING SPIRITUAL THINGS with SPIRITUAL. 14 But the NATURAL MAN does NOT RECEIVE the things of the Spirit of God, for they are FOOLISHNESS to him; NOR CAN he know them, because THEY ARE SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED. 15 But he who is SPIRITUAL judges ALL THINGS. Yet he himself is NOT judged by ANYONE. 16 For
“who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” (Isa 40:13)
But WE have the mind of Christ.

The purpose of the spiritual language and having the spiritual mindset was down to fulfillment. The Old Covenant law and prophets were going to be fulfilled, but they were going to be fulfilled spiritually. As St.Paul said, "first the natural, then the spiritual". This a covenantal language. The natural was the Old Covenant and the spiritual was the New Covenant.

@@michelhaineault6654 Disputed, and a bit anachronistic at that. Nonetheless, it wouldn’t be the first time a Catholic came out with some whacky doctrines. Case in point: Arius, Montanus, all the way down to Luther, just to name a few! To be fair, these were all “schismatics”. There is also quite a bit of doctrinal wiggle room in the Church so, yes, sometimes there are folks in good standing whose theology might not be quite the same as another’s, which might never catch on (such as Ribera’s) or might fall out of favor (such as Teilhard de Chardin’s). Nonetheless, a more congenial situation than that enjoyed by, for example, Calvin and Servetus.
