  • Join us on our multi-part journey to improving what is arguably the best car ever made. Inexperienced "tuners" can easily ruin the R35 GT-R's performance prowess by just throwing parts at it without giving any thought to how all the parts are going to work together. That is NOT how we do things here at MotoIQ!
    In Part 1 of our series we install a set of KW Suspension 3-way adjustable Clubsport coilovers and show you the process of adjusting a 3-way shock.

    Mike - thanks for this quick tips in shock tuning. Could you explain perhaps in a video (or written) the effects of preload? What is your take on shock tuning adjusting preload (since the KW have preload and height as one adjustment)

    Thanks, Mike, for the fascinating tutorials.
    A question: what would be your recommendation for a good 3-way damper for the 370Z. I like the KW V3 club sports for the Z but they are only 2-way. Thanks.

    all really good info, but you should always set rebound first, its a active adjustment which means it has a bearing on compression also, when you adjust rebound, this is passive damping and does not effect rebound. so re 1st, then high speed and finally low speed comp.

    • @motoiq
      @motoiq  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should always adjust compression first starting with high speed, then low speed, then rebound last so the adjustments that bleed into each other will not stack and make an undesired effect.

    • @markrothwell6057
      @markrothwell6057 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MotoIQ hi Mike. The trouble with that is when you adjust rebound it has a dramatic effect on compression. When making a reb adjustment you are adjusting bleed on the rebound piston which also has a compression stack on the piston. Adjusting the bleed on the reb effects to speed at which the compression active damping takes effect. That's why it's more beneficial to adjust reb first. Making high and low speed compression adjustments are passive adjustments which do not effect compression.
      Your knowledge isn't in question btw. And your car set up is surely great. I build and dyno shocks for a living.... so just offering opinion

    • @motoiq
      @motoiq  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do chassis set up for a living. The amount that rebound affects compression varies from shock to shock. The rebound bleed does not affect the fluid flow on the compression side of the piston as much on these shocks as much of the compression adjustment is through the fluid flow to the canister due to shaft volume displacement. The piston allows the fluid to flow pretty freely under compression in the main tube.

    Do these re-use the stock oem rubber mounts? if not, do they make any clunking noises?

    • @motoiq
      @motoiq  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's all spherical bearing and of course it's rougher and louder slightly but it does not clunk.
