Throwing Making a Double walled Pot in 2 pieces attempt 1

- As I find it very difficult to make double walled pots in one go from a single piece of clay and get a nice shape I thought I'd try to make one in two parts and stick them together.
This was my first attempt, not the best but it shows the technique works and means you can make a nicer shaped pot than you can generally throwing it all in one go.

Gah! Whether or not it is your finest work or not, your creativity and adaptations to a complex technique is very inspiring.
Fantastic idea to use this drop in style for a double walled pot. Certainly not a cheat. I like that the lower inside portion is free and clear from the outer pot's foot and you can see that. With a candle below these would make nice aromatic oil warmers (smaller) or cheese fondue servers (larger).
I did this for my final project last school year (10th grade) and I carved different sized triangles out of the outer pot, then threw the lid to finish it off. Best piece Ive done so far, this is only my first year and it was so hard!!
I have watched your videos for many years now and it never ceases to amaze me how you use all your fingers to pull up the clay. Can you show us how you arrange your hands but without any clay? I have made double walled pots the old way but will try this now. I posted a video about 2 years ago where I filled the cavity between the walls with a coloured slip through a single hole and then poured it out again, plugged the hole and then dipped the pot in another coloured slip before carving.Try it.
I love wheel work im a senoir in high school and i use some of your techniques. My teacher says im the best hes seen in years. And ive only been doing it for two months.
Thanks Dan
I think you are the best potter on TH-cam as far as how quick you are and easy you make it look, awesome ideas too
I like to see this kind of innovative process! I think it's a testament to your skill that this worked as well as it did for a first go--and I think this process has a lot of possibilities. I can imagine a mix of thrown and handbuilt elements that might give some interesting results as well.
Thanks Dan!
Your centering speed never ceases to amaze me. It takes me about a minute to center a piece that size and you just center it in seconds! I need to practice more haha
Congratulations Dan, I do not think this technique is cheating, more like a new technique in the making, as always, after watching your videos, I am ready to play in the shop.
Very cool! thanks for sharing this. I love watching your videos. The pieces are always very well made, and you go in detail how you do them. You have inspired many projects of mine in the past.
I’ve been watching your videos for the past few months and I have to say that your pottery is inspiring! So far your content is my favourite, and I love learning new tips and tricks :D
Keep up the fantastic work
Beautiful piece of work! :) Don't ya just love it when inspiration strikes? Thanks for posting!
Why didn't I think of that when I was throwing in college! Nice Work!
Fantastic solution and perfect execution ... As always.
I am trying to throw pots for 4 month now. It will take a very long time untilI I am able to throw this, but I will succeed one day...I hope. I will watch your videos over and over again and learn. Thank you !!!( sorry for my english but I am dutch.)
You make it look so easy.. Thats awesome looking
here too except i'm a junior and I've been doing it since freshman, although i could center and things were just natural to me, after watching your videos though my throwing has improved drastically in the quality and consistancey of my pot. every day at school all i can think about is what i'm gonna do next on the wheel
I wear short sleeves when I throw and still get a little clay on them and he throws with a watch and it’s completely fine. Wtf
I can't wait to try this!!!! Thank you for making this video
Happy Holidays Dan, thanks for all the great videos.
Fantastic, you are so gifted, what talent!
Beautiful piece of art. I love it. I really like your work.
I love the cone one!
Obsession is the mother of invention!
Beautiful pot!
WOW....that is AMAZING...~! GREAT IDEA~!!!!!
I love it!
about 2 weeks ago i tried your one piece doubled wall pot, although it took me a few tries before i go the hang of it i found it pretty easy to do once you get a feel for it and know how your hands should move, the problem i had is that i let it dry too fast and the two rims cracked apart
Lovely.. Amazing
Simply amazing
Its amazing!
Wow, same with me actually. I'm a senior and I'm in love with the wheel. My teacher has said the same thing!
I agree Goodwin
keep up the good work =D
Beautiful
amazing, at first by watching i sad some thing is wrong but in the end it seems much easiyer than to do it together on the will.
This would be a good technique for making a pot for scented oil. Throw the outside like a salt pig shape then add second shallow bowl to the top. Carve the outside, add a votive candle and scented oil in the bowl.
It's funny, you know...you, saying it's not great, me saying...well....I LOVE IT! :D
amazing
It's almost 2am here and I have to be at work at 8am. What the hell am I doing binge watching these videos? I know I'm already a subscriber but this is ridiculous even for me
Like it ,it's amazing!

Beautiful
Do you ever make a cooking pot made out of clay?
Is it hard to do pottery
clever
You are a wonderful potter with a vast amount of knowledge. I might have added a coil to the top your piece just after you joined them to make a stronger top. But you have a great series of videos. You might want to think about more than one camera when shooting. It would be nice to see your face and a few different angles on your work bouncing back and forth. Keep up the good work!
how did u make the pot with the cone inside it?
amusing
can you throw a donught vase
What is your favorite piece that you have ever thrown?
Needs a new camera
Beautiful pot!
