hey, good job! and its so important to let people know that ceramics can break your heart, especially like what you said about damaging the piece so you just adapted your design, which still looks awesome!
this was awesome - thank you. I'm new to pottery and have done a few carvings so i understand the hours as well as never fall in love - ha! my first one broke on the way to be bisque. ugh! and thanks for the tip on the chicken cooker... going to have to remember/make/try that one.
Hey Mari, thanks for the comment. As a far as what i carve with i usually use an exacto knife to rough out the shapes then i go in with some of those small carving tools i think made by kemper. and finnaly to get rid of all the burrs i use a scrubbie pad. As far as collaring goes i try and avoid that like the plague... its been my experience that it causes uneven rims and you can usualy get away with little to no collaring in most cases and get the same result.
Hi there, thanks for the nice words. I carve when it is slightly wetter than Leather hard, and i find an exacto knife works best for me. take care, joshua
wonderful video! thanks so much. I'm wondering what a finished one for cooking a chicken looks like. ;) i really enjoyed your video. been exploring with double walled vessels myself, and your video clarified some points for me. again... thanks!
@246aod its just a pretty standard mid-range stoneware with medium grog content. It looks so soft because i work with a very fast wheel. thanks for watching :)
Thank you for posting, i found this very helpful. If I where to adapt this for something like an insulated mug, how would i go about making sure it didn't burst in a kiln but still not letting all the air out, would that even be possible?
Lemon, garlic and parsley or basel in the middle for chicken! Inspiration! Now I HAVE to make some of these! Love your background music, by the way! Why not collar the inside wall instead of just using one finger? What do you use to carve? How does it look in the dark? I am SO GLAD you are posting lots! I think your style of throwing and pieces is much closer to my own than anyone I've seen so far.
thanks wendy ;) as far as weighing my clay ive no idea..ive never actualy done that..though i know it is common practice. however id say about 3lbs (1.3kg) just to guess.
I get what you mean about uneven rims. Next question - how do you glaze these? Just dipping, I am guessing, since you can't get into the middle with anything other than liquid.
This was great to watch and your finished piece is wonderful!!
This is one of the best double walled vessel videos Ive seen. Its great how close up your camera gets. Thanks for the expertise!
beautiful. i used to do this in high school...well nothing close to that but used to really enjoy it. as soon as i get a job i m gettin a wheel
I'm doing a project on different throwing techniques. I think I'll try this. I love it. Thank you so much!

Nice demo thank you. It would be greatly improved without the drill and music interfering with your dialog.

Would you please tell us how much clay and what clay body you're using to make that vase? Could it be possibly Laguna #900?

that dog looks spoiled....
The music is competing with your instructions.; quite distracting.
not the music, its ok, the real bad noise is the drill
