    Hello Richard, thank you so very much for all your very informative videos. I have learned so much for you! In the past I only used chicken manure and Epson Salt, but after watching your video I just bought Flora Nova Grow and Boom fertilizers. My question to you is:
    Since Floranova Grow is not organic, do you use it all year around, every week or twice a week? Or do you use it only during the dormant time and from March to September you only use chicken manure and the recharge? I understood that floranova bloom has to be used only to start the blooming. Thank You for your time and your passion, your reply will be so very much appreciated. Happy dragon fruit season‼️🐉😊 Isabella

    What do you think of using mulch on top of the pot soil. I used it and find that I don't need to water a lot and soil stay more moist. I used ogranic Jobe rose fertilizer and jobe alzalea fertilizer, I mix the ferlizer with water 5 gallon buckets, than water my dragon fruits, this keep them so green and healthy.

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi lamt99, mulch works great for top cover on soil! They help reduce watering and even helps promote root growth to spread all under the mulch. The dragon fruit plants love it. I’ve been meaning to get mulch to add into my pots but never got the chance to do that. You’ve motivated me to get that done! I’ll probably make a video on that subject. Thanks for the idea! Ive never used organic Jobe rose fertilizer but I’ll look into it. I’ve had experience with organic Dr. Earth and General Hydroponic products.

      Hi Mary Ram, In the summer time like this 2-3 times a week will be enough. You can always check your pots to see if the top layer of your soil is dry and put your finger about 1 inch deep. If it’s feeling lose and dry then you’ll need to water it. They are tropical cactus so they like water but are tolerant to drought when there isn’t any around. In the winter time I’d water them only once a week sometimes once every 1.5 weeks. I’m always touching my soil to see how dry it is and it gives me a good idea when to water. Hope this helps!

    Richard, I love your videos.You & a grower in Lafayette have inspired me to go full steam ahead. That & me buying a supermarket DF and was so disappointed in it's bland taste I decided to try growing some of my own. I just started with cuttings last year & I stopped @ 30 known varieties & 10 unknowns. I did not expect flowers this year, they are a welcome surprise. The 1st feeding of FN Bloom results could be seen the day after feeding. Will LAR pollen cross pollinate other DF? I read CM can be pollinated from just about any red flesh variety.
    Can I use Epsom Salt (maintenance)mixed with FN Bloom or should I use Epsom Salt one day & FN Bloom later same day or wait until next day? Also, I have earthworms in some of my pots. I thought earthworms are beneficial to soil. I was told by a DF grower that earthworms in the pots are not good and eventually I would have to replace my soil mixture. I also have little green lizards in each trellis. They are keeping my plants bug free except for spiders & ants. I took a picture of a juvenile leaf footed bug on my VW. I looked it up on computer, went back to remove it and it was already gone & a lizard was in same location. I live in FL panhandle & we have gotten rain almost every day for weeks. The top soil is turning green with algae. Should I remove the green layer, mix it in, or leave it alone? My mouth waters when you do a tasting video. Can't wait to test one of my own. Do you sell pollen? I lost several buds because 3 sterile varieties flowered before any pollinators. How long will pollen last refrigerated? I bet your family enjoys the DF of your labors. Keep up the wonderful work you do. THX.

Do they not have holes for drainage because I don't see any drainage thing at the bottom and didn't see any liqud leaking out at the bottom. Hi Mandie, I go to my local hydroponic stores to get my pots. They are 20 gallon pots and they do have holes in the bottom for drainage. When I water my plants I know how much they need so that not too much drains out to waste. The wide base at the bottom definitely helps keep it sturdy from tipping over easily. Do you flush the soil/pot once in a while? Another question is that if you add 2 inches of chicken manure every 6 months, does that mean the old soil level would decrease by 2 inches every 6 months by itself?

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Joanne, I flush my soil in between feeding. So my schedule is regular hose water Wednesday and I’ll use the fertilizer on a Saturday or Sunday. If you’re only feeding the fertilizer you’ll need to flush your soil with water every 2 weeks for the whole week before you start fertilizing again. The soil does decrease every year. It gets compact down so that I’m able to add the chicken manure. If it ever gets to a point that you can’t add chicken manure and your pot becomes too full of soil. You can remove the top layer of your soil if possible and add your chicken manure on top as replacement.
      As long as your doing regular water in-between feeding with fertilizer than you don’t need to worry much about flushing. But if it concerns you. Every 2-3 weeks you can flush with regular water for that whole week and go back onto your fertilizing routine. Hope this helps!

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re very welcome Joanne! I would water the pot until I see first signs of water draining through the pot holes. Once you see it start to come through you can stop. That will be more than enough. You don’t want to over water, first signs of water spilling out those pot holes will be sufficient enough to flush.

    Ive been using ReCharge for years. It is great stuff. However, it appears like you're using tap water to mix it up. If so, you are really short changing its potential. Mainly, bc the additives found in tap water will kill your beneficials. You must use RO water to reap all rewards that ReCharge offers.

    Hi I'm from the Philippines, I recognized the water dipper you used to fertilized your plant, it is called tabo. Besides chicken poop, some local pitaya farmers used chicken eggshells to fertilized the plant because they claimed that the calcium from the eggshells makes the fruit sweeter. Is there any truth to this?

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Jake Cruz, chicken egg shells provide calcium which builds the cell walls of the Dragon fruit. This will help them photosynthesis and grow the plants to be stronger and when you have a strong plant. They are healthy and will provide sweet fruits.

    I just started growing DF from cuttings...super slow...your base root ones are so THICK and big, do you/can you sell and ship some mature cuttings from the plants that grow the fastest?
    I’ve noticed other videos where they plant varieties all around same time and some grow 3x faster than others and branch like crazy....
    Oh and I’m in Florida ! Don’t think we have as many people grow as much as I see most people videos are from Cali

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What kind of DF cuttings do you have now already? The fastest ones that grow super crazy big and thick would be Vietnam White. They don’t require any pollination they will do it themselves. I can prune you some cuttings of those if you don’t have them already. If you’re interested in hybrid dragon fruits that require cross pollination then I definitely can ship you some mature cuttings of those as well. Send me an email at graftingdragonfruit@gmail.com

      Lamt99, you are absolutely right. I’ve notice that physical graffiti grows very plump, thick full of water and they can withstand that direct heat from the full sun pretty well. During winter I notice they still thrive and grow fine. I have one that’s still devolving it’s canopy. That one will produce me fruits hopefully next season! Can’t wait.

      Hi Doug, I flush my soil with Recharge Micrboes, every 4th watering. So every Saturday I’ll feed. And my 4th Saturday I’ll flush my soil with Water mixed with Recharge Microbes. In the Winter time I don’t feed as often. I’ll reduce it to once a month with just FloraNova Grow. As long as you are always watering in between feeding. Your soil should be fine. I haven’t had a problem and I’ve been using it for 2 years.
