Many good channels about handling DF but this is by far the best and most enjoyable one. No frills, no drama, just pure and well pointed guidance on the subject. Chapeau and thank you.
I recently planted some cuttings, they haven't reached the top of the trellis yet, is it wise to trim the tip of it to encourage new growth or was I suppose to let leave it be and it will continue to grow longer?
i made a cut but the plant is growing new shoots from beneath and not from around the cut portion .....what can i do ?...should i remove the lower growth and wait for more growth from around the cut portion ?
When you to the top and get new shoots how many do you keep 3 or more? Then from this 3 or more how many to leave from them or do you just keep 1 per shoot on the canopy once you tip it?
Hello I really enjoy your videos and have followed them with my dragon fruit. I live in the Philippines. My trellis is 5 feet tall. I have 4 plants and they have reached the top. I cut tips according to you. Now each plant has 3 branches not 6 like yours. My question is how to get more branches. Should I tip the 12 branches that come out of the 4 or let them grow down then tip? I trust your info and appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you
Hi, I am looking at getting some Frankies red df and grafting it too Viennese white rootstock in your experience would this make for a stronger faster-growing df?
Hey Richard, I have 2 quick questions: 1) Why do you wait until it grows several inches further than the place you're going to cut? It looks like you wait until it grows about 6-8 inches longer, then where you will cut it. 2) Do you just keep pruning off any offshoot growth to get that single main stem while the young plant is growing upward towards the top of the trellis? Thanks!
Can you give us an update on the last dragon fruit in this video? Did you trim it after all? If so, did it sprout new umbrealla branches? This one looks just like the one that I'm growing. So I'm really interested. I don't even know what kind of dragon fruit I'm growing 🙃
Waching here in Phillipines, nice videos of Dragon fruits, if you tip, a DF, so its open , what do put to close the scars, thank you sir, begginers here.
spray the trimmed area with hydrogen peroxide and then let the cut naturally dry and heal itself. an angled cut will repel excess moisture, compared to a horizontal cut.
Hi Ngoc Trang, here’s the video of the trellis and how it stands in the pot. How to Build a Dragon Fruit Trellis th-cam.com/video/Pkq6T2QaoXs/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching my channel! Appreciate the support.
Hey Richard! Let me first say that i love your videos and appreciate them so much. I started growing DF before i found your channel however so i never cut the tips. They've grown out a lot (11 months old) but definitely dont have a full canopy like yours or others. If i cut off all the long mature branches back to where you show us to, would i get the same effect?
Ugh yes... Frankie’s red is a slow poe...lol.. maybe if you do make the cut...you can do another experiment n graft it onto a white rootstock n see if there’s a difference in growth for that one.
You read my mind lemontea128! Lol, that’s exactly what I was going to do with a little portion of it. I wanted to graft it onto a Viet white to see if there will be a difference. I guess now I’ll try!
Hi Richard, what sun exposure do you give your plants? How many hours of direct sun? The video makes it look like those ones may be shaded by houses. Thanks
Hi Ronnie, the full sun hits at 11am and then it starts to get shade by the houses by 5-6pm. So it gets about 6-7 hours of direct sun. I normally record my videos early in the morning before the direct sun comes. 😁
Can you help me to find a good dragon fruit variety for commercial dragon fruit farm suitable for hot climate 45 degree centigrade. With below qualities Brix 18+, fast grower, heat tolerant 45+ degree centigrade.
Hi Sekhar Somu, The variety named Physical Graffiti would be a great candidate for commercial growing on your farm. It has all the qualities that you've listed in your description.

When is the best time to cut? Should I wait until winter when they go dormant?
I'm really going to put to use all I've learned in a good hour watching your videos THANK YOU look forward to keep watching your work
Should I wait until spring to tip my plants? Or will doing it now (September) just promote more growth for the spring?
Incredible videos and information
Thank you very much for watching!
How long after cropping the top will new growth appear and approximately how long will it take to form the umbrella canopy

Can I make a cut at a joint or does it have to be in the middle of a stem to encourage branching?
Do you ever grow more than one trunk just in case trunk gets damaged?

I’m thinking he waits to cut so he can use it as large cutting to plant? I’m new at this but that’s what I gather from it.

Grafting Dragonfruit lol.. can't wait to see the results! 🤞
you need a really cool intro
My buds attract ants. Is that a problem?
keep them around, they can help pollinate your flowers.
