Hey, u are one of the most underrated design channels ever! Only recently discovered your content and I cant stop watching the redesigns! I really love how you explain your choices and show your process. As a front-end developer and designer, I really love watching these videos and how you always keep functionality in mind. Keep up the great stuff bro!
This really means a lot, thank you. I really tried to make sure that the thought process is included in all the redesigns as opposed to a "black box" redesign where you don't really learn anything
LOVED this one, very close to my heart too. Really like the playful nature, the humor and how you show it's important to "see how it goes". UI is a journey not a destination I always say (or I stole it). I personally would have put this into two videos and I would LOVE to know more about your figma setup. We can see bits of UI and Icons around where you are working, would love to know more about that.
Haha thanks Carl you are too kind! Yeah probably should have milked this one out into 2 videos haha. That would certainly help coming up with ideas for new vids 😅
I like the redesign… but if I have to be honest, your best one so far is VSCode redesign! I would absolutely love it if Microsoft makes it look exactly like on your design! 😊
Hey, great content as always! I was thinking about the editing page, and I believe it would be helpful to leave the secondary menu open, and the primary menu can be compressed to show only the icons, similar to how Notion handles it.
Absolutely loved seeing the process, and getting a glimpse into something not working. That refining and iterating process is usually pretty behind closed doors, so as a new UI designer getting to see a seasoned designer work through a big problem was really helpful. I'm curious; I'm starting on Google's UX Design Certificate, but I have been working in Ui design for a couple of years already. In your experience, would you recommend I complete that course before actually trying for a Ui design role? As a self-taught Ui designer with a graphic design background, this path is a bit more complicated to say the least.
Yeah the reality of UI design is actually a huge mess of a few people banging their heads against the way until something sensible emerges. 😅 Hard to give advice on a personal level without all the context. If I were you, I'd focus on putting together a solid portfolio, then just start applying. If the UX design course from Google helps you achieve that goal, then go for it. It's a tough market out there, so anything you can do to speed up the process of getting applications out is a priority. Takes *months* to get hired. But totally doable if you presevere. Good luck friend!
Hey thanks for making a redesign of a complicated interface, I asked a few videos back. Also, if you have time in your calendar then maybe you can do like a livestream where we can see the design process in real time. Kind of like 'Figma-along'. Thanks again!
This is a good redesign. I really like it. But I'd still prefer a dedicated page for Pages. I use quick edit feature a lot and that is missing in this vertical Page design.
Hello, I have been following your redesign videos for quite a while, but I am really confused about how you get all the matching icons, fonts, styles etc. I am a new designer and am really interested in doing some redesign to upgrade my skills. However, finding a proper design guide is frustrating me a lot as it does not look good with generic available options. Anyway, loving your all the redesigned videos and thank you for sharing with us.
Glad you're enjoying the videos! Typography and iconography selection is one of the hardest parts of UI design. There's a solid font selection guide from Typewolf you can get for like $39, and a whole bunch of solid smaller guides here on YT. I'm going to make a few smaller videos on specific topics as well in the coming months!
@@DemystifyingDesign can't really spend that much money as I am from a third world country and this sum is a lot for me. also currently I am not working as well. but I will research YT guides for the fonts and icons. waiting for your videos as well. Thank you for your reply :D
Ah ok - yeah I'll get some content out there. There's also this article that I lean on heavily when trying to choose an new font: www.typewolf.com/google-fonts
Good design as always, i would have used a sub-menu items on the pages like its already in the WordPress menu, and what if a user is using a page builder like elementor? 😂
Well one of the hypotheses with this redesign was that the Gutenberg block editor would be sufficient for really any page building needs. Idk - I personally have a vendetta against 3rd party page builder plugins in WorPress. They typically torpedo a sites usability & performance 🙃
Trying to get a little better every week guys. Ran into some weird encoding issues this week that took away the 4K option, should be sorted next week.
Also my lighting situation is still really bad, I think I might hav figured out a solution though!

Keep doing this awesome job, I barely stay this long in a video, but yours are always very entertaining.
Thank you Juan that's awesome to hear 🙏
I love this series, and dig this redesign obviously 😂
Eyyy glad you're enjoying it! More to come soon 😎
Beautifully done, brava! 👏🏽
Haha thank you! 🙏
With this design I love it because it fits the modern theme of 2024 and Wordpress still feels like 2016 and that's the reason I don't use it anymore
Oh yes!
Great stuff, keep it up man! I'd love to see you try a full operating system like iOS, macOS, Windows, etc. Would be time consuming for sure tho 😅
Oof 😅😅

Haha thank you! I'm slowly trying to improve :)

Yeah I considered that as well but I'm not sure how you would handle showing multiple custom plugins in the primary sidebar. Any ideas?

You're welcome! Yes this is something I've considered. I need to figure out my lighting situation first I think
@@DemystifyingDesign haha I get it, btw you've nice lighting setup & a great design process
Thank you mate! Learning and trying to get better each video
You should check out their new block editor, it has a similar to what you have design here

For the sub-side menu, I would've given the main menu a slight shadow (only when the sub menu is visible) to indicate the visual hirachie
You mean the secondary navigation with the pages?
@@DemystifyingDesign yes exactly
Yeah that's a good idea - should have spent some more time polishing it up

I just wish it wasn't so slow
Yeah that would make a huge difference fr
