Ive reached the point in life where the corny songs my mom listened to when i was in the car with her....are now classics to me and I miss those days. Lol
It's true of every generation. My father restored jukeboxes, so I heard everything from the 1940s and up as a kid. Now that my mother is in a nursing home with dementia and I know so many of those "golden oldies" by heart, I can sing them with her and she still remembers the lyrics. I'm so glad my father made me appreciate all the songs from his life; it feels like a bridge for me now.

This is a great song because whenever you break up you notice how many songs are about breaking up and they’re always very depressing but this one is very positive and help people heal
Because it was released in 1991. The song was probably written in the 80’s but he had just gotten around to releasing it in the early 90’s so they were able to throw that 90’s/80’s vibe in there.
@@hcaballero57 There's always crossover when it comes to the late 80's and early 90's. I mean it's the same when you look at cartoons. GI Joe, TMNT, He-Man, and Thundercats were still airing episodes in syndication in the 90's. I know that TMNT was still going strong at that time but like with Full House and Family Matters. Those are technically 80's sitcoms not 90's.

Summer of 1990. One of the songs that was the soundtrack to that summer for me. Love this song and the memories it brings for my post fifth grade summer.
The huge and punchy 80's drum...tight keyboard bass line... catchy melody ... insane brass tones... delightful Back up Vocals... powerful Lead Vocal. Everything worked here!! What a killer song.
Go West had me from the first time I heard "We Close Our Eyes" on the radio back in the mid 80's. I love their bluesy, soulful, Brit pop sound and I couldn't help but love this song too--every time I hear it I think of "Pretty Woman" and what a great movie that was. I heard it in the grocery store and came here to try and un-wedge it from my brain. Nope. Didn't help. I should just start dancing like Peter Cox in this video and get it over with.

This is a great song because whenever you break up you notice how many songs are about breaking up and they’re always very depressing but this one is very positive and help people heal
Up beat yes, but positive no. Lol the whole song is about him being in denial, hence "king" of wishful thinking.
Whoosh lol
U have the same thought as me back in 1990!
it helps you heal? thats subjective and relative isnt it?
Why break up? It's about finding the person you'll spend your life with.
How is it possible for a song to sound so 80s, yet so 90s at the Same time? It’s amazing!
Because it was released in 1991. The song was probably written in the 80’s but he had just gotten around to releasing it in the early 90’s so they were able to throw that 90’s/80’s vibe in there.
@Victor Conrad that or the writer wanted it as 80s style song. Either way, it's still a good song
@@aoinatafanboy84 Beautiful comment. I agree. I was a kid in the early 90s. I miss it dearly. 🥹
@@aoinatafanboy84 I was about to mention similar.
I was born in 81 and the 70's still had influence. Same with the 80's going into the 90's and so on.
In a fun twist music went back to the 80's again. A bit exaggerated in most cases but still fun.
I love this song. The blind faith that one can turn a gut-wrenching negative into something better by denying the reality of one's feelings. A fantastic glimpse into one strand of the amazing human condition.
Well said
Yes!!!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻
It's like the male version of "Gonna Get Over You" by Sara Bareilles
This song reminds me of my late uncle Joe Palladino..... The things he taught me made me realize that there are going to be hard times but to run into it not against it. Two wolves on a ranch.... I will never believe em' when they say I can't. He lives on through all of us. Love WIllow---TYbay ONT
What he taught me in one month is more than I learned in a lifetime!!!! God bless you uncle J!!!!
This song is just inspirational!!! The way musicians can get into there music it CONTAGIOUS!!!
30+ years later and this song still slaps
Like Will Smith! I've always loved this song. And then New Found Glory covered it and did a killer job. So now both versions are on my driving playlist
What does it slap? Your mom's a$$?
@@jamesdaily1561it's in my driving and early 90s playlist
Spoken like a true snowflake, with your people's stupid made up slang words for everything nowadays, your generation will never be cool so just shut the hell up, how in the hell can a song "slap" that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, then again nothing your loser low life generation does nowadays makes absolutely no sense at all these days 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😡😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 unlike you losers, I use real people words
40+
White t shirt tucked into some baggy jeans and dad-dancing. I love it so much! You couldn't get more 80s if you tried.
steady son...some are still in that vortex.
Yeah now you have to give up gender! Thank God for tucked in white T Shirts! Lol
Those pants are just short of nineties style.
I prefer a button down shirt, long sleeves, in black, with Levi's Jeans and Military Forces- issue boots. JROD Six Arizona, Roger Out!!😆🇺🇸🇵🇷🦅🗽💥🔫
Like you're old enough to know the term of Dad Dancing.
Not gonna lie this song helped me get through some painful moments in my life. It's such a great uplifting song. All the best to my Generation X, and all of those who made our childhood memorable.
I bought the Pretty Woman soundtrack when it was new.
I love our generation it's just so sad that time is gone by things have changed so much how many of us would have not wanted to just stay back at this time frame
Amen brother!
indeed. ... .
Hey! I bought the pretty woman dress! The pink one! Spandex
It really holds you together. Gravity is cruel. Some young person asked why older folks wore Spandex. There you go. Why was that kid looking? Cougar meow
Lets just say it, this is a masterpiece from a forgotten era. It is. And there will never be a time like that again. What a song like.
Happy new year!
You're right. There will never be a time like that again. Sometimes I lose sight of that. Crazy to think time is just marching forward
@@wecomeinpeace5082 it's the greatest tragedy my friend. We are stuck on play and can't rewind. All things get left to the past. It's relentless. We barley have time to enjoy what the era is and it's over forever. This is life right... It's all we have. At least we can remember sometimes and TH-cam is like a time machine now. Lucky us that way. We can remember.
Agreed 100%
I feel like rewatching Pretty Woman (again) 😍😍😍
I really don't understand but this song is with me head every day and night for the last 10 days . Thank you guys.
This song make you lose old things make you feel better.
“I’ll pretend my heart’s still beating cos I’ve got no more tears for you” is my fave line. Great song 💛
Peter Cox has one hell of a voice. When he sings this live he sounds exactly the same, even 30 years on!
A vocalist generally does not change his/her voice through the ages. I can still belt them out, like I could 30 years ago, as well. th-cam.com/video/3lDbR_HZkiI/w-d-xo.html
He’s still singing? Thatd be amazing
@@Inframidi LOOK up the live 2011 performance video.
@@pauljordan4452 I saw them play himley on Sunday and he can still nail it perfect
Yep, talent used to be popular, lol.
Not only is this the ultimate break up song, it is so much more. The upbeat and just energetic vibe from this song is so special, and its awesome to still see people listening to this classic. 1000/10.
Oh My Pretty Woman...I can't still get over it until now 2023...how time flies...I miss those amazing days/years..70s, 80s, 90s.😱😥😍🥰
Yeah, this is a good one ... even better, It Must Have Been Love.
I love how this song is so timeless and sounds like it could have dropped at any time.
This song was my "walking to school" anthem in the early 1990s. It rocked my world then and it still does today.
70s and 80s two Absolutely Legendary Decades if only we could get back there and Appreciate them Alot more !!!
I was very lucky to meet Peter Cox a few weeks ago, teenage dream come true, and he was so lovely. They are still excellent live
The king of wishful thinking. Such a positive vibe coming out of the 80s/early 90s. Today's artists take note!
Take note suck one!
Summer of 1990. One of the songs that was the soundtrack to that summer for me. Love this song and the memories it brings for my post fifth grade summer.
Yes...the scene where this song appears is magical...
Pretty Woman 😊
My next door neighbor listens to this song every night.
I make sure of it.
😂
I might be your neighbour.
❤❤😂
😅😅👌🏽
Lol Gold 😂
Love it
The lyrics are incredibly sad, I never really realised with how upbeat the song was 😯
This is one of my guilty pleasure karaoke songs. I crush it everytime 💪
"King of Wishful Thinking", memorably opens the movie, "Pretty Women" and then bookends it with, "Must have been Love." That's Genius.
That's so true.
The huge and punchy 80's drum...tight keyboard bass line... catchy melody ... insane brass tones... delightful Back up Vocals... powerful Lead Vocal. Everything worked here!! What a killer song.
20年振りに聞いた今でも、この曲の魅力は全く色褪せていない!
カッコ良すぎ!!!
🙏
Back when a man could happily sing to his wrench.
The wrench is a Go West thing, from their video to We Close Our Eyes.
Preach brother john age 41
After decades of hearing this master piece, I finally got to see the video. Beautiful song.
Crazy how the whole 1990s was basically this.
Everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink!
This was a stunning song. This guy had one hell of a voice!!!
He STILL has! 🤯👍🏽
A few weeks ago, Pretty Woman was broadcast on Japanese TV! Then I fell in love with this song!
❤
Go West had me from the first time I heard "We Close Our Eyes" on the radio back in the mid 80's. I love their bluesy, soulful, Brit pop sound and I couldn't help but love this song too--every time I hear it I think of "Pretty Woman" and what a great movie that was. Cox and Drummie make for one dynamic duo.
So 80’s it’s unbelievable! Fun and entertaining and a great tune!
I was 23 in 90. This song helped so much during a hard breakup in the following years.
I was born in 1999 tell me what was it like back then.
30 years later and we're still not over the 80's
The real question here is should we though?
The first 30 seconds brings back so much nostalgia.
@Shadow Equinox And written and shot in 1989.
Probably the most accurate comment made on TH-cam ever
@Shadow Equinox Actually genius, it was recorded in 1989. And Pretty Woman was also filmed in 1989. So it's 80s as far as I'm concerned.
Haha I love his overly aggressive shoulder dance LOVE
80s & 90s was ALL about the shoulder shimmy 🤣
He’ll get over it he knows he will 🤣
In this era shoulder popping to hits was equivalent to the size of Catholics clergy headwear. He is just establishing his dominance.
I love it omg 😘😘😘
Shoulder pads just aren't enough to do the groove
I still love this song...Always have ...Always will...It is one of those... feel good songs...just takes you to another place.
Wow. After all these years the mystery has been solved. I now know where my dad learned ALL of his sweet dance moves. Thank you!
He's dancing from the shoulders up.....wow. and as a dad I can honestly say I wish I could dance that good.
Haha!
Whenever I hear this song randomly come on the radio, I spend the next week with it stuck in my head, and randomly belt it out now and again.
Such an ear worm, and I love it!!
I heard it in the grocery store and came here to try and un-wedge it from my brain. Nope. Didn't help. I should just start dancing like Peter Cox in this video and get it over with.
I’ll get over you...I know I will... So many meanings behind this.
Not just an amazing song but the lyrics are really deep. Underrated song but we all know what it is!😉
Me finding out the song has a double meaning. It's both having blissful ignorance and hope after a bad relationship ends. But, also trying to gaslight your self to look on the bright side when your at your absolute lowest. Absolute genius.
Peter Cox has an amazing voice. Underrated.
oddly enough, I'm related to him lol

I actually love how dorky this video is, its pretty charming.
It was that part of the decade where bands/artists “had” to have music videos, but no one really knew what they were supposed to be like
@@BirdmanDeuce26 haha I agree! And to me it doesn’t matter because the song has enough substance to make up for the cheesy video lol
Saving Money, I guess.
Have you seen Jimmy Fallon and Paul Rudd's recreation of this ? They really over accentuate the dorkiness...I love it !
@@BirdmanDeuce26 I figured it was just that type of late 80’s art vibe. Same kind of video as “She Drives Me Crazy”. But artists like Madonna and MJ kind of showed everyone early how to make videos lol
The 90's. When an artist could have a receding hair line (and dance like that) and have a hit single. Good times.
Can clown on these guys all you want.. theyre still more talented than 99% of the shit artists that release 'music' today (30 years later than this)
Michael Yuscavage I believe it was late 80’s. I could be wrong. My teen and early twenties were around both and all I remember was having fun! Lol! I’m pretty sure it was 89!?

Hello Skinny ok...I’ll take your word for it as I honestly cannot remember. It was awesome though, I remember that lol.
Funny
Wish we could go Back to these Simple Times❤
I was 10 when this song dropped and had no idea what “wishful thinking” was or what he was singing about. Now I know it’s wishful thinking to believe that music will ever be this good again.

Wow, they used actual instruments, a real synth?! How amazing, that would be a god-send in today's pop music.
This guy is feeling it, look at those dance moves! Straight 🔥. I’ve always loved this song.
He still has the same energy live now, saw them mid last year. AMAZING.
Was thinking the same thing!
Omg!! This song is so awesome. I just added it to my playlist, his voice is so amazing 😻
One of the most fun, funky upbeat songs of the 1990s! And Peter Cox can SING!
I'm a 40 yr old black man and the like 80s and early 90s were fun times and good music for me. This takes me back !
It's difficult to put into words just how much I LOVE this song - from the very first notes I'm instantly transported to the late 80s/early 90s and even in the midst of this godawful pandemic I can't help but smile from ear to ear with nostalgia. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ah yes if the twin towers were still here we would still have good music

Are they still touring?
@@Genkimark Your comment is five years old but I just checked and they're currently touring the UK.
I haven't heard this song in a long time and for some reason I just started singing it to my cat so now I'm here listening to it. ❤🎶
