I can really relate. I find myself coming back from time to time. I hope this necro-post nearly a year later will find you well and with your life in a good place. G'day!
13:47 - 14:48 Marvel at the blackness that Nostalgia Critic left at the end of this video. You may think that it's an editing error, but in reality, it's... GENIUS!
Finally, someone else acknowledged how a legitimately talented and versatile actor like Leslie Nielsen basically never turned down a role. He was Nic Cage before Nic Cage.
lol, Fun fact, I’m from Hawaii. Born and raised and lived in the Islands for 28 of my 38 years. To this very day in 2023, in the Hawaiian Islands phrases like “stylin”, “psych”, “fully”, “those waves are pumping”, “let’s shred” “bitchin”, “gnarly” and “no worries, brah” are still common and widespread and have been so for decades. As a matter of fact, most of those phrases were borne from Hawaii, and California surfing slang lexicon. That said, in places like all of Hawaii and to a lesser extent many parts of SoCal those words are in widespread use.
2:37 Notice how Rob Sheridan totally blends in with the other kids in the schoolyard, and doesn't look at all like a 35 year old man who was casted just for the sake of stupid one liners and bad comedy. Genius.
One might say that the 1-minute black screen that follows this movie might've been a clumsy edeting mistake. But they don't know that it's actually -- *GENIUS!! :D*
At first I thought this was all sarcasm, but then realized it is really in true humble admiration. I rewatched this film just recently and it is an outrageous gem. Probably Rob Schnider's best acting role. It's also extremely relatable, as my adopted niece just found out that she is really a princess from a far away island and has amazing fighting prowess that had been laying dormant deep inside her until her most previous birthday.
That must be the longest time a video reached the end before the actual video finished. Oh, Rob. You and your crazy and lethal antics. How many villains have been defeated by self-groping these days?
4:48 to be fair, the low angle shot is just cinema 101, Citizen Kane doesn't own it. It's used in most movies to show the power of a character. There's actually quite an interesting low angle shot in Heathers, when Heather Chandler dies the camera is a little behind her head on the floor. Heather's corpse is much larger than Veronica and JD, although at this point she is definitely not more powerful then the two characters. Her death however, does hold power over these characters, which is what the shot represents. Critic should totally do a Heathers review.
@@EmmaBonn96 he didn’t claim that CK owned the low angle shot, he was making a stupid parallel between it and this god awful movie as if they were on the same level of cinematic avant-gardism.
His serious acting is actually what got him into starring in comedies, because of his ability to play the roles completely straight despite how ridiculous they got. Unfortunately, that aspect was dropped in his later comedy films, which resulted in a lot of them not being that funny.
it's funny how he brings up "Apocalypse Now" when paralleling the two scenes of the guys coming up out of the water, but DOESN'T bring up the entire surfing subplot from 'Apocalypse'. "Charlie don't surf"...? nah, "BROTHERS don't surf".
13:23 Optimus, thank goodness for you being the only one to make this whole review of this Episode of Nostalgia Critic easier to come across and blow over my reactions involving most of shrugging.
Mighty Scout As was 3 Ninjas being a rip-off of the Ninja Turtles and Home Alone. Except that in Surf Ninjas, they got Ernie Reyes, Jr. (Keno from TMNT II/Donatello's stunt actor from TMNT [I]) as the main protagonist and his real-life father, Ernie Reyes, Sr. playing his uncle/royal protector in the movie.
This movie is everything cheap and superficial about the 90s manifested into one film. It looks like nothing more than some film producer somewhere saying: "Dude, I got the perfect movie idea! Get this...we'll combine surfing...with ninjas! Who cares about things like 'plot' or 'character'...surfing and ninjas! That's all we need! It'll make millions!"
I kept seeing the "Bend yr knees.. " meme in the NC's other reviews and been wondering where it came from. Finally saw this review today. Hilarious stuff lol
And that's how 'positive' reviews work in a nutshell: you marvel at the beauty, oversee any shortcomings or at least try tie them in to overall message / experience (if it has no message for viewers).
Fun Fact: There's actually an Amiga game of the same name very loosely based on this movie. The AVGN reviewed it in his Amiga CD32 episode. It has practically nothing to do with the actual movie!
MrsColedo For one thing, almost everyone who has left CA (except Spoony and Bhargav) were fired by him for really stupid reasons. Including their PR manager Holly the day after she got out of surgery. They didn't hire a replacement. He also wouldn't allow Patreon ads in the videos until it got out why he wouldn't and the huge stink it caused forced him to relent. He also told the producers that they should be grateful for the anniversary movies because CA covered the plane tickets, despite only Doug, Mike, and Rob receiving any profits from the specials. He (and Rob) is incredibly difficult to communicate with when he needs to be contacted, then complains when the producers don't respond to him immediately. There are probably a few dozen other horror stories. I actually don't think I've seen a single positive story involving Mike.
Seeing the Critic fight this losing battle to defend this film by saying "Genius" over and over again reminds me a lot of Todd Howards' "It just works" mentality for some reason Citizen Kane's good and all but my favourite films are "Casablanca" and "Dr. Strangelove: or How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb"
"Playboy is good, Smoking is bad." And that's absolutely right. Sexuality is the most natural thing, nothing to be ashamed of, while smoking is the most lethal, most poisonous thing imaginable.
When AVGN played the game and was going to contact someone who watched the movie, I was REALLY hoping for you to make an appearance instead of just a clone of him from his review series. But it's cool you got to be in the AVGN movie which funny enough is how I found out and got into your channel. By the way I watch JonTron, AVGN, and you and your my favorite :3
"PatuSan" is actually a fictional Asian country in Joseph Conrad's novel "Lord Jim", while "Apocalypse Now" was adapted from Conrad's "Heart of Darkness". There's a connection between the two films.
2:10 Excuse me sir but the pinnacle of the lines Rob Schneider delivered in this masterwork was clearly "once I went to a cutlery store and said here's a hundred thousand dollars can I buy a knife? they said no, money can't buy knives"
And 8 years later I still find myself rewatching these episodes that brought me so much laughs even at the lowest points in my life.
I can really relate. I find myself coming back from time to time. I hope this necro-post nearly a year later will find you well and with your life in a good place. G'day!
Same here! Especially for one of my favorite NC reviews
Thats a big liped alligator moment
Here, here! Can't watch the newer NC reviews.
Well said.

Marvel at the blackness that Nostalgia Critic left at the end of this video. You may think that it's an editing error, but in reality, it's... GENIUS!
I've always loved this review because of the sarcasm and the sass Critic used. It's incredible how sarcastic he can be.
I know it's my favorite
Dawn Darrell Samaitha Isn't it the best XD
He was actually dreaming.
Sarcasm doesn't do so well in text, Dawn.
This wasn’t sarcasm he meant all of that GENIUS

Learning such chameleon acting from the great Steve Buscemi.

Rob Schneider is...a Surf Ninja! Rated PG!
Rob Schneider is
Der der der
Coming soon
The amount of sarcasm is palpable - I never would have imagined that one can eject so much sarcasm that it becomes painful.
I like that.
“Bend your knees! Use your arms!” One of the best set of lines of all time.
This is how I learned to surf. Granted I fell off the board 18 time but that because I wasn't trying hard enough.
@@colmancrowley1105 Lol! 😂
I actually really liked this style of review. Maybe doing this style once every 50 or so reviews wouldn't be so terrible. :P GENIUS
I've got a fever, and the only prescription, is more GENIUS!
After all of these years, the "GENIUS!..." clip from 10:19-10:26 is still hilarious.
'Genius' is another way of saying 'Just consume product, and then, get excited for next product.'
That must be the longest time a video reached the end before the actual video finished.
Oh, Rob. You and your crazy and lethal antics.
How many villains have been defeated by self-groping these days?
I loved the sarcasm in this review, withering! He doesn't seem to do that as much nowadays. Not complaining, love me some NC, just an observation.
the sarcastic critic
Nuclear Triggered hello I'm the sarcastic critic i pretend to like it so f*ck you

The Sarcasticritic.

Goodbye, me am Bizzaro Critic. Me forget it so you have to.
Bizarro Critic is one of my favorite Nostalgia Critic villains, right after Melvin brother of the Joker and Shyamalan.
It's funny how Leslie Nielsen was actually a serious actor before going into comedic movies.
His serious acting is actually what got him into starring in comedies, because of his ability to play the roles completely straight despite how ridiculous they got. Unfortunately, that aspect was dropped in his later comedy films, which resulted in a lot of them not being that funny.
Why couldn't M. Night Shyamalan hired Rob Schneider to play Sokka in the Last Airbender?
Eric Cruz You should write a horror novel....
Unholy Periodza That would have been worse.
Haven't you heard? M. Night was gonna have Schneider play the Ember Island Player version of him in the 3rd film.
Honestly, I would have prefered that. At least then he would have been less boring.
Rob schneider isnt endearing enough
That minute of blank silence at the end. RIP Optimus Prime :-(
Optimus: I died for your sins
How does the Nostalgia Critic make such funny reviews you may ask... GENIUS!!!
'BROTHERS DON'T SURF! GENIUS!'
"It was the most peaceful place on earth *loudest gong ever!*" absolute genius.
Definitely watch Flushed Away!!!! Or Over The Hedge!!
sad fan He did a quick look at both of those during "Dreamworks-uary"
misty lor Why? Both those movies sucked. The former was boring and the latter ruined a good premise with a terrible, cliched story.
it's funny how he brings up "Apocalypse Now" when paralleling the two scenes of the guys coming up out of the water, but DOESN'T bring up the entire surfing subplot from 'Apocalypse'. "Charlie don't surf"...? nah, "BROTHERS don't surf".
I accept Optimus Prime as my lord & Saviour.
I've already accepted John 117 into my heart.
More of a Satan guy, personally.

This is my guilty pleasure
no regrets
jish32 Likewise.
So, why are you “guilty?”
Two titans of cinema, Leslie Nielson and....the "You Can Do It" dude. Only in the 90s.
Hard to believe that the nostalgia critic of today was once this funny.
yeah he has lost all the comedic frustration and insanity he used to hone so well.

Lasercorn, what are you doing in a 90's movie?
Iced Tea w
So this movie ripped off a rip off of Ninja Turtles and Mortal Kombat?
Mighty Scout As was 3 Ninjas being a rip-off of the Ninja Turtles and Home Alone. Don't forget the magic Game Gear, because kids love video games!
Bend your knees, use your arms!!!
This is seriously one of my favorite guilty pleasures. When I was a kid, this was seriously the coolest. I now love it for its cheesiness
HOLY SHIT!!!! That one kid is Keeno from TMNT II. I didn't know he was in *another* ninja movie.
He was also the kid in the last dragon
When I was 8yrs old my dad took me to see this at the dollar theater here in Shreveport,LA. Good times…
This was the first NC video I ever saw!
3:44 - Well, Fracis Ford Coppola did direct "Jack", which is pretty much on par with this.
I kept seeing the "Bend yr knees.. " meme in the NC's other reviews and been wondering where it came from. Finally saw this review today. Hilarious stuff lol
I drag my step dad to watch this movie when I was like 7 .. im sorry :c

Surfing ninjas is what you call "a weird 80s movie combination"
Fun fact: more time has passed since this episode aired til today, than from when Surf Ninjas released to when this episode aired.
Rob Schneider is, a NINJA!
And he's about to find out that being a Ninja is not easy!
The Critic has such a lovely singing voice
This level of sarcasm is rarely seen

Tone Loc...oh the 90s...we didn't deserve it!! Last Dragon, Surf Ninjas, TMNT2, The Run Down. Who do they all have in common?
Man that guy hasn't done too many movies, but he sure popped up all over during the 90s and early 2000s.
It's now 2022 , August 2022 and these old episodes are so much better than the new garbage.
Nothing changed other than skits you're just... Nostalgic?...
Knock knock

GENIUS!
Who was the third guy at the end in the background? Sorry. I dont know him.
TheDraygon I'm wondering how much CA's reputation would improve if they got rid of Mike and hired somebody else.
Pocok Mike Michaud.
@thedraygon what did he do?

Yes Mike, keep looking directly at the camera. It's genius!
That ending with just him singing in dead silence 🤣🤣🤣

This was way before the controversy.
I consider this as a early good work from Doug.
