The Neurologist Compilation Part 1

- It's compilation Thursday. Today we have the Neurologist along with a hefty dose of Glaucomtrivia. Please like, subscribe, leave comments, all the things. Thanks for being here.
00:02 First Day of Neurology - This was the debut of the Neurologist. I was going for maximum nerdiness with the costume. The gold, lensless, semi-broken aviators I found at a thrift shop in 2011. The Phi Beta Kappa tie that my dad bought me when I was inducted in 2008 (this video was the first time I ever wore it). The hair was also a gift from my dad. The tuning fork and reflex hammer are relics from my days in med school. All the real-life neurologists crushed me on social media for featuring a sub-par hammer. My bad.
00:58 Gotta Localize the Lesion - One of a series of skits focusing on neurologist pet peeves. Bill is the perfect sad sack to bear the brunt of the neurologist's ire. I thoroughly enjoy writing neurologist insults. All I need is a set up (Bill not bothering to "localize a lesion") and then I let the neurologist go to town for 90 seconds. This is a formula I have used several times. "Did you run out of neurotransmitters" seems to be a fan favorite quip. Poor Bill.
01:54 The Neurologist Has Competition - I wrote this skit because I got a really short haircut and had to wait months for it to grow out long enough to play the neurologist again. I thought it would be funny if Glaucomflecken General Hospital hired a new neurologist because the OG was "on vacation" for so long. The question and answer back-and-forth between these two insufferable neurologists gave me the idea for the "residency interview" series.
03:04 Don't Say Altered Mental Status - In med school I received my own personal talking to from a neurologist for saying "altered mental status" without elaborating. It stuck with me and 10 years later I made a skit about it. Poor Bill catches a stray at the end of this one. He's just trying to enjoy his applesauce, probably the best thing that's happened to him all day.
04:02 The Neurologist Goes to Therapy - I think this is my personal favorite therapy session. The smarminess of the neurologist, the condescension of the psychiatrist, the personalities play off each other well. One of the comedic devices I like to use is having the psychiatrist tell the other doctor's jokes. Having the therapist say "6 foot tall white matter lesion" instead of the neurologist and seeing the neurologist's reaction to his own insult offers a small twist to the typical neurologist content.
06:25 - The Neurologist and Neurosurgeon Couples Therapy - This was a popular request from a handful of TH-cam subscribers. I try to occasionally drop new pieces of Glaucomflecken lore for a couple reasons. It's fun for me to create a whole universe with continuity which adds depth to each character. It's also a way to thank my fans for watching all my content. I wouldn't be here without all of you. Anyway, it made way too much sense for the two most awkward, anti-social characters to be brothers.
As insufferable as he would be as a real person I can't help but find the neurologist's videos oddly comforting. Everything is so certain in his world.
Especially his superiority. Of that he is very certain.
Yes, that's right
Neurology is my favorite character in the Glaucomverse. Too bad he only appears when you’re overdue for a haircut 😂
That hair is awesome! So are the teeth. Once you see them, you can't unsee them.
@@The1adventurebound I’m waiting on him to image his brain to show he has the waviest of brains 😂😂😂
@@dr.floridamanphd ... No doubt because he has purkinje cells the size of a house cat (Standardized Patient)
I like ortho bro.
Lmao
It makes me so happy I ran out of neurotransmitters.
"Ahh, well may you can publish it in the New England Journal of Who Gives a Sh--" is still one of my all-time favorite lines! :D
😂
It makes me cackle every time I hear that line. Never gets old!
My neurologist husband died 6 years ago of hemorrhagic stroke at 61.
I find these videos comforting & share with my son.
We both agree you nailed him.
They capture his idiosyncrasies, even as they miss the humanity( don't tell anyone, he put the trash out every Tuesday) lurking underneath his Neurologist persona.
As an ICU nurse I would say, "We don't do Neuro checks if the heart isn't perfusing!"
He would retort, "Who cares if the heart is beating if the brain isn't working?"
Thank you, for the good memories.
(Hugs)
Your husband sounds like a rare gem
Sorry for your loss
Raise your hand if you are not AT ALL involved in medicine but are endlessly entertained by these videos
🤚🏻
Literally me
🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️
I love neurologist !!! Non of my neuro professors is like him. But i love the idea that somewhere out there there is a neurologist like him. All he does is grumbling and bragging and checking his cranial nerves functions every morning. And i love it. They hate us 'cause they aint us😁😁
Deep inside we are doing those things. Some of us are just nice enough not to show it. 😅
6 foot tall white matter lesion is such a good burn
Using it from now on 😂
I have a soft spot for neurology. It took one to diagnose me where multiple doctors over a decade blamed my symptoms on “just anxiety”
Can I ask what the diagnosis was?
What was your diagnosis? I had seen a few doctors and they told me I was fine “ just anxiety “. But I have been sick for more that 8 weeks. I have continuous vertigo for more than 8 weeks.😢
@@Michelle-fm8dg laryngeal dystonia
I'm so jealous of all Dr. G's personalities...they all have GREAT hair
You're ready, they do.
Think that maybe they are related somehow? Isn't it canon that Cardio and Neurologist are brothers?
This one looks exactly like my psychiatrist. I'll have to tell him he should've gone into neurology /s
My mother had to visit a neurologist/neurosurgeon (licensed for both roles) last week, and he was exactly like the portrayals in these videos. I showed Mom "First Day of Neurology" and "First Day of Neurosurgery" after the appointment to help with his condescension.
😂
I am a senior med student who want to be a neurologist and THIS neurologist makes me rethink my dream speciality, it is horrifying 😂
What would be hilarious is you randomly emulate the character. Then half minute later go oh my bad, lost control of my internal AI. Its normal fir us neurologists.
Don't be dissuaded. I'm not in medicine in any way. I've been to several neurologists over the years, they were nice and kind. The last one I visited was really compassionate.
While I love the laughs here, the world needs specialists who love their field. If neurology appeals to you, there are many who await your care.
@@Liriq Thank you for the sweet and gentle reminder, I will do my best 🖤
I’ve been lucky enough to work under both new neurology residents and senior neurology specialists in pediatrics, I went in expecting a persona somewhat reminiscent but was absolutely surprised by the kindness and down to earth aspects they embodied.
They definitely changed my ambitions and I’m prepping for the MCATs in hope of getting into neurology with them!
@@Liriq don't worry, we are only mean to our incompetent colleges. Our patients only get our love.
POV: You have watched all of Dr. G's channel and your watching these for to relive some absolutely funny times
Love your work man!
I could hear your incompetence from over 2,000 miles away. It was deafening. 😂
The master of insults is in the house!
I've been under the care of two different neurologists in my life. The first one (who confirmed my repetitive stress injury) fit all the stereotypes. The second one (who cared for me during my hemorrhagic stroke, left basal ganglia) could give Pediatrics some serious competition in the compassion and empathy sweepstakes.
Wow!
Damn, both Light and Dark lol
I certainly prefer to think that the second neurologist was so kind to me was because he was a kind man. In fairness, I was a young stroke patient (meaning under 65 years old) and thus may've been more interesting, especially since the kind of stroke I had has an approximately 25% survival rate. I'm coming up on my 7th anniversary in a couple months, so I'm still beating the odds.
@@oracleofthemundane9593 glad to have you still with us! Keep making anniversaries! Keep on keeping on man! Fuck strokes.
Lmao the delivery of "I'm sorry I'm late, I had better things to do" by Neurosurg
I love the Neurologist. Reminds me of the neurologist I had to see when I was ill a few years ago. Had the same tie, hair, outfit, glasses and everything. The mannerisms are absolutely perfect too. Makes me smile every time I see a Neurologist vid. There are legit rl neurologists just like this one!
i remember my childhood(-ish, i was 15 in a psych ward) neurologist. wore a bow tie, had stickers on his laptop of eyes and a mouth that i kept looking at instead of him, and i recall vividly forgetting his name and instead calling him "Dr. Egon" for his striking resemblance to the character from Ghostbusters.
wonder what he thought of me outside of the funny frills in my brain he loved so much.
My favorite doctor of all time was a Neurologist. She was smart yet the most thorough and nicest doctor I ever had.
"No EEG in history has EVER shown seizure activity". That made me LOL.
So true
I love that goofy smile neurology has, it gives him a Bugs Bunny smile.
My fav neuro moment is when the neurologist gifted a red bottle wine for the tap. That is so god damned hilarious
I showed that one to my doctor who rarely smiles. He laughed.
I love neurologist #2's tie.
The man, the myth, THE NEUROLOGIST!
Loved seeing the interactions between Neurology and Psychiatry! (Psychiatrist compilation maybe? 👀)
I just watched this and I am so glad I am not going to my husbands first neurology appointment in the morning. I work for cardiology, their egos are big enough. Lol
Neurology scratching with a Taylor hammer always gets me
I feel so special now that my EEGs have shown seizure activity 😅😂 love to think the neurologist was just as surprised in my case! 😂
You give me really deep joy, dr. Glaucomflecken, thank you!
i am not a doctor and only have 1st year bio lvl knowledge on this stuff but its still hilarious to me. i Guess laughing at icky personalities can apply anywhere lmao.
My sides are killing me 😂. My jaw’s aching 😂My eyes are teary 😂…. Absolutely loved it… Laughter is very good medicine……. ⚛️☮️🌏
As someone who perpetually lacks any neurotransmitter, this refills my neurotransmitters.
"6 ft tall white matter lesion." I love it! Neuro is hands down my favorite character.
I stumbled upon this channel really recently and, even though I don't care for YT shorts, I watch his almost every day. I love the interdisciplinary drama, but as a French citizen, the bits about health insurance, big pharma and how American are left to pay and die is utterly depressing, maddening and infuriating. Why don't you fight you people ?
Sigh. I have a confession. When I was a resident in Neuro, I got a consult asking us to rule out a Venous Sinus Thrombosis. I asked them, "Is the patient alive?" "Yes." "Then they don't have a venous sinus thrombosis."
I was really tired post call AND had a 4 month old at home. But I'm still guilty.
I came for the video and stayed for the comments. You guys are hysterical.
That ending is perfect! I love that vid!! Keep this coming, I’ll rewatch these all day!
I had dreams of becoming a neurologist during my med school days. Alas, that all changed after my internship. I’m an ophthalmologist now 🤷🏻♂️
Loving the compilations, including the "director's commentary" in the episode description.
Neurology is my favorite. I so glad you put a spotlight on this.
I needed this! But pleeeease bring back the Clinical Geneticist!
I love neurosurgery and neurology. You are so good at making these guys complex characters will not losing the little things that make us love them.
Bravo! One of your best compilations.
On behalf of neuro nurses who have to deal with both of these goof-balls, thank you! We needed that laugh!
"Sorry I'm late; I had better things to do." Love it. Reminiscent of Phoebe's line from Friends: "Oh, I wish I could, but I don't want to."
Neuro is my fave! Very happy to see a supercut.
Compilation Thursday is my new favorite day.
My favorite character.
I love these series. Pls continue to make these.
I lost it at the EEG never capturing any seizure activity 🤣🤣
"I could hear your incompetence from over 2,000 miles away. It was deafening.".
Why did I hear that in Dr. Cox's voice?
I cannot wait for the ophthalmology video! And then a separate video on the ophthalmologist’s loyal scribe Jonathan!
It has been years ago. There was a newly minted intern who was to evaluated a patient on the medicine service. At that time, it was a BIG DEAL to order a CT scan.of the brain. They weren't doing them on the rest of the body yet (yea, it has been a long time). Said intern found what he thought was a neurological deficit involving the cerebellum and ordered the EXPENSIVE CT. Meanwhile, whilst waiting for the CT, a neurologist evaluated the patient and felt the CT was a big waste. Anyway, the patient had a cerebellar tumor.
Then there was the radiologist who, as I recall, said a CT was worth a couple of neurologists.
I laughed way too hard at this one. I absolutely loved this!
The temptation is so damn strong to email a link of this to my neuro lol.
Nice to see the message "From a doctor licensed in the US" underneath this video... It's good to warn people beforehand.
The professional pictures! I love them!
Oh I miss the smooth condescension of the early neurologist 😅
I work with two neurologists like that version. One drove a DeLoren and the other had a BMW, Dodge Viper and two Corvettes.
They had the egos of a neurosurgeon and a vascular surgeon. There was not one scrap of overt nerd in them.
Have no clue how a neurologist could afford all the expensive toys and vaycays, they sure did.
It was fun watching them take down the chief of ICU.
@@lilbatz Neuro nurse here. The comedy nerd version is funny, but that guy was eerily accurate 😅😅😅
Spendid compilation! The neurologist is my favorite character (apart from Jonathan).
as someone with seizures, that "EEG has never shown Seizure activity" hit me RIGHT in the face, because I am still waiting to figure out what's actually wrong with my brain
Same bruv
As a med student going to neurology, I plan not to run out of neurotrasmitters
You could always bring back Smooth and Smug neurologist as Nerd Neurologist's better looking, more obnoxious, more successful brother.
"Dad is always did like me better."
No! Cardiology is the 3rd brother!
my cousin is in his last year of neurology residency before specializing in neuro-ophthalmology, and he is Indeed this Brutal. love him and love these videos
When I was in the Neuro ICU I LOVED the neurologists
I have been to many a neurologist and this is each single one of them.
Pure gold as always.
Brilliant as ever. I’ve always found (most) neurologists to be as portrayed and wonder if the fact that they can’t actually cure anything might have something to do with it.
Im just a paramedic, not a doctor, but having worked both in and out of hospital, I may not know some of the more technical knowledge of specific anatomy in some of your videos, the personality stereotypes are spot on.
these are most of my favorites
oh my godness this is the best video on youtube!
worst thing ever is when you are patient of neurologist. They will insult you, waste your time, denigrate other neurologists and saw come back only if something dramatic happens. Though their notes are interesting examples of creative writing, they don't advance medical care.
I’m with neurology on the subject of most orthopedic surgeons. Based on six surgeries on each knee.
My favorite doctor! Him and Ortho are my favorites 😂
I hope we see more ortho bro. He’s so earnest. A compilation or better yet more ortho bro material please! Great work! (I like nephrology too.)
Every single one of his videos are spot on, but when the med student said he couldn’t find the lesion on the MRI…well, let’s just say I made the same error on my neurology rotation and have never forgotten it
My dad is a neurologist and I have to say a lot of this is on point
by far my favorite character
watching Dr. Glaucomflecken's neurologist makes me feel even better about my neurologist 😊
Oooh, the design for the thumbnail is excellent.
6:16 Just that face gets me EVERY TIME 🤣
Yes!!! Neurology is my favorite!!!
I'm not even remotely connected to the medical field. But if I were to go to med school, Dr. G's neurologist seems like a person you'd learn a lot from during your rotation with him, mostly at the expense of all other doctors at the hospital (and possibly a few stethoscopes)
Neurosurgeons and neurologists are hilarious!!
2:49 this exchange really teaches me about the med industry while being hilarious
Thank you a lot!
A neurologist :)
My neurologist now watches you. She loves your neuro character! :D
This had me literally laughing out loud 😂
“Oh, you two are busy boring each other. I can leave and never come back…” is the biggest mood ever
I love this
Love it!
Brilliant as always, Will.....and Jonathan, of course 😂 What would a Neurologist or Neurosurgeon do with "your" Jonathan?
First they'd have to fight through the rest of the Jonathons in the Resistance to catch him.
I loved the very first version of your neurologist. He is so spot on smooth AND smug. My hospital had two guys like this.
The current version is sort of a neurotic mess. He'd be eaten alive by the neurosurgeon surgeons here. Smooth AND Smug neurologists would go toe to toe with those egomaniacs and usually win.
Wouldn't break my heart if you brough back Smooth and Smug neurologist.
"...and if I see you checking reflexes with a stethoscope, I'm going to beat you to death with it." Neurologist doesn't even TRY to hide his anger issues. He's just barely reigned in sociopathic rage and unbridled narcissistic condescension.
Then there's neurosurgery...a stone-cold psychopath who, despite all his knowledge and fearlessness, can't quite grasp what a professional "relationship" with another human being should feel like...not even his own brother.
I know a neuropsychiatrist whose own brother is also a highly accomplished physician, and they entire family is just one group of highly accomplished, highly competitive...let's call them "over-achievers" to be nice. Their parents are, as expected, the very people who created this highly competitive sibling rivalry, as all narcissistic parents tend to do. It's actually quite sad to know kids grow up with such savage parents. Imagine infants and toddlers being raised to compete for their parents' approval. Heartbreaking to think of little ones growing up like that.
Suggestion for a skit with neurology: neurology walks past an examination room which has the door open, sees some other physician do reflex testing, only he is not using a reflex hammer, but his fingers. Funny stuff ensues.
Neuro in the first one was so nice.
As a patient. I have to laugh. Thank u
This is my favorite character in the series besides from ortho
I went on a date with a neurologist once and he was just like this. Needless to say, I did not enjoy it and there were no subsequent dates
it's so funny how my neurologist's hair looks very similar to this character. I just had a follow up with him yesterday and couldn't stop thinking about him XD
my neurologist is very sweet and understanding though, only his hair is accurately depicted here
Love your neurology skits, red baseball church where’s the lesion?
