Absolutely awesome video you’ve made here! My grandma showed me how to make a cane pole and a hook from a small safety pin when I was a little boy. I haven’t done it since, but this really makes me want to again. If we don’t continue and share the skills of our previous generations, they can become lost. Thank you for the love and effort you put into this.
I love seeing people keeping the old ways alive. I grew up in the poor South. We spent many a day and evening with our old fashioned cane poles and sitting along the creek and ponds. That was the good life! Keep it going and God bless!
I was just thinking this. About to jump on the camera now. This time of year I spend most of my time prepping and testing everything. The full moon of February will bee here Tuesday, and I plan to hit it hard as that is often the beginning of the fishing season to me.
Yeah, it's definitely something that would be pasted on. The main reason I do this channel is to pass on what I've learned. Yeah, the floats come in a couple sizes.
Over in the uk they revere carp fishing they use poles like that up to 42’ or more . Look it up . It’s big they have magazines special tackle and carp tournaments they are crazy over carp I have some of those long poles got them on smazon
Great video! I fish a brackish/saltwater river using a bamboo pole often. I watch the expensive fuel sucking boats go here to there. Even the large fish are at our feet.
You know your fishing man . I have good poles but I wanna get out and do some cane pole fishing . Your lucky you got to do some fishing with your dad . My dad was 52 yrs old when he planted my seed sod I didn’t get too much kid time with dad
Great way to fish! I put a floating fly fishing line on for the first 20feet or so, then loop to loop a short length of mono. I like the way your dad rigged his float (bobber)...l might steal that idea. Enjoy your channel...
This brings back a good memories. I had a lot of fun as a kid catching panfish (and sometimes other things) on a cane pole. But I dunno about that all that fancy fiberglass stuff. Seems a little at odds with the whole cane pole vibe. ;)
Not above useing a cane pole.i find they have strong points in some specific fishing situations.like docks or banks with drop offs right at the shore.even crappie fish with these lol.

Actually the little fish are what you need to keep. The big big fish need to stay for breeding stock. Also the big fish are more toxic to eat. It is generally accepted knowledge to keep far more little fish than big fish. It's fear more sustainable. Genetically if you only take big fish, only the little fish will remain and breed. That's one reason the big monster fish from 150 years ago are so rarely caught today. The big fish have been genetically deleted form the gene pool.

Im not familiar with alabama, looking at the water level, is this considered high-tide, low-tide or roll-tide?
Well, I'm Tuscaloosa, so the Tide is always rolling, lol. On a more serious note, we're too far inland to have tides.

I'd love to go fishing with ya' man.

If the fish are slow to bite, twitching the line and doing short drags will improve the catch rate!
