Memories: My Dad (RIP) used to use a 12 to 15 ft cane poles with 60 lb Cortland fishing line tied to a 10 inch Bucktail lure to catch Muskies. He would sit in the bow of the 14 ft wooden rowboat and figure eight that lure constantly. He was able to move that boat all across a lake and never pick up an oar to propel the boat. If the fish was too small he just lift the bait out of the water to avoid hooking it. If the fish was so large, he would toss the cane pole into the water and let the fish tire itself out, then retrieve the pole and fish. He caught a lot of fish in over 40 years after serving in the Pacific. Memories. Thank you.
I’m so glad you shared that story here as well! Thank you, Rev. for checking out the channel and being a part of my fishing family! If you feel inclined, check out some other videos. There’s some fun ones!

I grew up fishing for muskies with my dad and older brother and I have never heard anything like this before. What an amazing story. Thanks for sharing that.
Just acquired 2 cane poles from my uncle,RIP. He was born in Indonesia and served in the military as well. When he came to the U.S., fishing was one of his hobbies and as a young girl growing up with brothers I wanted to fish too so that I could be one up on them haha! Reel fishing at the beach pier at 3am was awesome. I've never done cane pole fishing but I'd like to give it a try! Been on TH-cam to find a community and learn. I'm loving the comments more than anything hearing all about the past. I'll definitely be thinking about my uncle and your dad😊 thank you for sharing. And thank you for the video!
Jake thanks for talking about picking up the trash. A good sportsman always takes more trash than he made so the fishing spots are cleaner every time. I've had really good luck with my B&M rods but I do tie beyond. For really big fish I remove the eye and add a lilian like a Tenkara rod has.
I have prescription costa polarized glasses. They are not cheap, but worth every penny! Good stuff and good video. I am making one piece bambo cane poles and was looking for something to watch while I did.
I use my spinning rod and reels like cane poles all the time for bluegill. Pull out just enough line to reach out to the spot and tie on a Betts Fat Gnat. Can easily limit out in a few hours during the spawn that way.
Man I cant believe I missed the video.. watching it now though.. live me some relaxing cane pole fishing. Awesome video sir.. need to check those brushpile people.. would work awesome on the little river by my house. Hate people who leave trash, I'm always picking up trash.
I found a pair of amber tinted polarized sunglasses at Walmart that were made to fir over prescription glasses. Think I paid $20 for them and they work well.
I got a cane pole last year but havent broke it in yet. Which bait kit are you using? I may look into the jigs and baits but i don't want to start too big. Thanks for the video. Makes me drool to see those big gills.
Entitled is a cool way to describe a guy fishing with a cane pole. Most folks don’t even know what a cane pole is. So, arrogant and entitled is the prolly the last thing I’ve ever been called. I wish you well my friend.
You probably would have complained if the grass wasn’t cut and you couldn’t get to the water with a cane pole. You feel like world is supposed to stop because you’re fishing. You think that because you used a cane pole and talked with a fake southern accent that means you’re not arrogant? You called someone names for doing their job. Ok buddy, sure you are not arrogant. Best of luck with your channel.

Rev, I am a collector of stories. As I am sure you appreciate, most get forgotten. This was a great one. This one I think I will remember.

A true angler takes more than he brings on almost every trip. However, some may have not been taught that. Sharing knowledge is a blessing!
Never tie to just the end. Wrap the line around the pole a good two feet down and tie as well in case part of the pole breaks.
Came back to watch the video! I use to use a cane pole back in the day! Life was simpler back then ;). Happy Fishing!
Glad you did! It’s definitely a down to roots way to fish!
Brings me back fishing with my dad thankyou
I agree. Always great memories from cane pole fishing.
I have prescription costa polarized glasses. They are not cheap, but worth every penny! Good stuff and good video. I am making one piece bambo cane poles and was looking for something to watch while I did.
Glad ya found me! Love breaking out the ole cane pole. Just did a crappie cane pole video here recently. Hope you check it out too.
It's about having fun fishing. It looked like to me you were having a
good time. Didn't you fish that lake before ? Like always another great Video.
You are definitely correct! Those cane poles are a blast!
Yes, I fish that pond occasionally every year.
Your support is always appreciated!
Good spot with the concrete extending out deeper with moss.
Good vid bro ..... Going to have to try some of that Cane Pole fishing
That Bamboo Pole was like 6 bucks! Cheap and fun!

@@jigginwithjake2796 definitely going to check that out
Had a good turn out!
I like the kits. Might have to go see Lee’s place
Kast Away Bait those brush Babies kill it!
Jiggin’ with Jake I need them tonight. First blank of the year for me and I had not one bite in 60 minutes of fishing
That stinks!
cool video! fun fact: (for florida at least) adults who are in their county of residence don’t need a fishing license if you’re cane pole fishing
Cool video
NateDawgTv thank you!

I’ve got bad eyes. Gotta have a script.
I tie my line just above the ferrule. Twist the line it up the rod and through the eyelet. If the tip breaks, you won't lose your rig and fish.
I would love on if the old school cane poles. The ones they have nowadays chip and aren't made the same..
matthew wolbert check the video tomorrow! I got you!
@@jigginwithjake2796 sweet.. I can't wait... gonna be awedome..
It took me awhile! But, I found one!
@@jigginwithjake2796 I'd love to find one. I seen one about a year ago and the guy wanted a lot for it.
They aren't made they are grown.

Great idea!
I'll try it too!
Mmmm bluegill are delicious.
That’s a fact!
So what happens when you get a big fish? 😉 Dang that's a lot of gills
MidWest RiverRat you use that rod to wear em down. It’s even more fun on big fish!
What is your location,if you don’t mind saying
Central Illinois
How does it work? I don't really get it. Don't artificial baits need to move around to act like real baits?
The action on the plastics do the work.
Lmao. This pond only has natural colored forage in it. Oh, you mean like literally every body of water on planet Earth, lmao😂😂😂
Thanks for the watch!
You get mad because the man is trying to do his job? You come off as arrogant and entitled.
Neat
You sir are polarized
