I won’t be selling my 2019 Indian Chief Vintage Iconic Thunder either. Hands down the best bike ever! You need to update the info. My new Vintage is two-tone black and yellow. I’m from Florida. Great video!
I am in western Washington State and I have had my 2017 Chief Vintage (Willow Green over Ivory Cream) for over two years now. You talk about the wind screen and buffeting in your video. I highly recommend using the Lower Wind Deflectors that attach to the forks. I see two benefits: you get less wind buffeting at higher speeds, and you get a little less water on your legs on rainy days. The number one thing that you need to know about owning a Chief Vintage is that you cannot even ride it to the grocery store or the bank and some random stranger is likely to want to come up and talk to you.
Noted several comments here that refer to bystanders stopping to stare or wanting to talk about the machine. BUT isn't that a good thing? Sure it is. Just convinces you that you chose wisely & should keep it once you own it. For a lot of riders, it's the bank's till that big note is paid off., and then you can have a mortgage burning party! . Anyone here had one of those? Let us know. :>}
Hi and thank you for your videos. I'm also a proud owner of a 2016 Indian red vintage, and like you I'll never get rid of it. In my opinion the chief vintage is one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever made.
I'm from Spruce Pine, North Carolina, in America. I'm 63 in April and I've always wanted a motorcycle. I bought one today. And it's an Indian Chief Vintage in the willow green / ivory cream. And I pick her up next week. I wanted to learn some things about the bike and that's how I came across your video. I enjoyed it. You made me want to ride it more than I already do.
I had a 2014 Vintage loved it, but, when the Springfield came along it answered a few more needs for me and I traded. The locking hard bags are a big reason along with the ability of my wife being able to get into the bags while riding. The other big reason was the fork rake was less making handling a lot lighter and shorter turning radius. Smaller reason was that the passenger is treated to stock floorboards. The Springfield for touring hits all the needs, that doesn't detract from the Vintage as the retro awesome bike it is and I do syill like it but traveling is my thing and living in Maine you have to travel to go anywhere! Great video, ride on!!
If the Springfield was out when I bought it would I have made the same decision? I don't know, possibly because I don't really go touring that often. Both great machines. Thanks for your comment.
Got a new 2020 Indian Chief Vintage and love it. Had Goldwings for years and they were excellent bikes. However, the Indian is 150 pounds lighter than the wing and a much lower center of gravity, so handles much better. Smooth, no vibration on the highway at any speed, unlike many V twins. I'm from southern Ontario, Canada
I’m in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and evaluating a 2014 Indian Chief Vintage on CycleTrader. I’ll be buying it sight unseen because the dealership is 1200 miles away. It only has 400 miles on it which is curious for an 8 year old cruiser. Your video was great and very helpful. I’m your newest subscriber. Cheers!
As an owner of a 2016 Star Silver/Thunder Black Vintage, I enjoy all of your videos. I also have a 2014 BMW R1200RT and a 2017 KTM Superduke GT. All are loved, and all provide--obviously--completely different riding experiences. I've come to love just cruising down the road on the Indian, and I have to say it's brought more joy to OTHER people on the road than all the other bikes I've ever owned over the past 47 years--combined. You just can't ride the Indian without giving someone a reason to tell you how nice it looks. Perhaps not a great reason to buy a particular bike, but it does enhance the ownership experience :-). I am in northern California (aka Motorcycle Nirvana on Earth).
Bought my first Indian at 38 years old. Vintage in Willow Green & Cream. I still have it and not for sale. I always loved the looks of them and the build quality.
Thanks for this review, I live in Fresno California, USA. I have been going back and forth between what bike I want to buy. This definitely helped. Keep the videos coming.
Greetings from Indian... apolis. I feel the same way about my Chief (base model, steel gray 2018). It still thrills me just looking at it, and riding it is heaven on 🌎.
I have always enjoyed your videos. You do a wonderful job of breaking down the Indian brand. I ride a chief Darkhorse and enjoy it in San Diego California.
Thank you! I'd love to ride from the Mexican border all the way up the coast to into Alaska. Maybe one day if that ever comes off we could get a ride together 👍
I am from Tombstone Arizona! I watched this video about the 11 things to know, and since I have orange my vintage I love it so much. 10:48 I’ll see if I can attach a pic.
Your video was one of the reasons I bought a Chief Vintage over a year ago. 12,000 miles later, it's best decision I've made in a long, long time. This might sound silly but I hear you say the line "the number 1 thing you need to know is...I never want to sell mine" when I'm riding and think the exact same thing ✌🏻
Hi thanks for all of the helpful information. I came across your video while doing research on the Indian chief. I’m looking to purchase a 2014 Chief Vintage and your opinion has helped greatly. I’m commenting from Whitehouse,Texas USA. Thanks again!
Great video watching from Calif..Just looking at Vintage Indians and found your video...been putting off buying since 2014 as life has had me on a Roller Coaster so no room for a bike..but now I think she is gone forever so here we go...covered many miles and many years all over the USA on all kinds of motorcycles 77 Triumph Bonnie mostly...Liked this Indian since I first saw it in 2014 ..Now I am liking the all black or Black and silver with black leather all around...wished the 2020 lineup had a black and silver...6 foot 230 pounds and 67 years old so I guess it's about time for me to get mine and ride off into the sunset...lol..Great video !...Thanks....
Just got myself a 2016 Chief Vintage all black w/ tan seat n saddle bags. with only 4500 mi practically brand new. I have owned 4 bikes this one is hands down the best bike I have ever owned absolutely love the bike and everything about it. Bob in Ohio
My jade green Springfield is a part of my soul. I'm taking it to the tail of the dragon in Oct and all the way across US next May. From St. Augustine FL/USA
Good choice for a trip Grumpy. Great fun that road, hope the pandemic didn’t spoil it for you. I rode it last fall and had a blast! So if you’ve never done it, keep it as a priority you’ll love it. Be safe, on and off the bike!
Im in Tampa Bay FL.,,Area This will be my next bike but after my bike test at the Indian Tent in Daytona i was hooked always had Harleys ,Ready for a cool change
I alway enjoy your channel. I’m watching from New York, USA. I’m right now shopping for a vintage. I’m looking to buy used only because I want a red one. In 2014 when they were released the red one was just iconic to me. I wasn’t able to afford it at that time due to health problems. Now thing have changed and my wife and me are healed up and I’m ready. Thing is they don’t make red anymore! Not since 2016, which makes NO sense to me, growing up Indians were red, iconically red, they should be Red, Black, and any other colors you want every model year. So I’m looking for a clean, low mileage 2016. Did I mention I want RED!
As with other things, you can get it professionally painted. I mean 'Professionally', at a shop with a solid reputation, who can show you their other successful workmanship.
🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦Came across you video August 30, drew my attention as I have a 2015 Indian Chief Vintage Willow green and Ivory Cream. My 50th anniversary bike which took me 14 months to find. A gift from me to me. I agree with you on every points mentioned. I do prefer a short windscreen which I intend to purchase next season. I will not sell this bike as it has been the best ride I ever had. Safe rides brother.🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦
I have a 16 willow green , and 4 min after driving it out of the dealer...the thumbs up and questions at stop lights started .....I dont think a red ferrari gets this kind of attention .
I have ridden the full range of Chiefs and Chieftains except the Road Master and, they really are great bikes. Handling of the Springfield (my fav) and the Chieftains surprised me the first time I rode them. Once at speed they felt like a 250cc. The weight just dropped away. Of course manhandling them around needs a bit more muscle but that is something one will get used too. I love them and the reason I don't own one yet is, I love my Victory Octane more at this point in my life. Oh, and you would love Chris' Calamity Jane even more in the flesh. Fingers crossed one day you can come downunder for a gander.
I would love to have a trip down under on a motorcycle. I've wanted to visit since I watched Neighbours as a kid! Haha. You also have the best version of Masterchef down there. Beats the British version hands down.
You tube- searching from Hawaii about to buy a used bike with 10k miles, anything I should do but so far she looks mint in pics! Also any places online sell aftermarket accessories like brown leather grips possibly with fringe and also something to add to floor board brown fringe. Mine will be green and cream love the color scheme.
Hi! Thanks for your list. You mentioned handling in the video. I would like to fulfil my dream of buying an Indian at some point. Now I'm hesitating between the Springfield and the Chief Classic. Have you had the opportunity to test ride the Springfield? I came across your video by chance. I myself come from the south of France where the motorbike season never really ends :D Greetings
Hello everyone i am in the process of adding another cruiser to my stable. I owned all kinds of bikes in the last 35 years from metric to any Harley Davidsons. Two bran new Harleys and a few used i got tired of their tee shirt sales attitudes. Ill never own another one since the most reliable was my 2015 Vrod Muscle. The baggers i owned had a ton of issues you had to argue just to fix simple things that should not be a issue with a bike under 10k miles. As a example I had a bagger die in a rainstorm. it was 6 months old. They did not install dielectric grease on the fuse box connections. Yeah they did eventually fix it. by changing the fuse box and other burned out components. I was told not to ride in heavy rain ? Who says that for a bike that is a highway designed machine ?
@@RebelRides that was a fast response thank you.Ill change my search to the Chieftain. Are there a particular years that are the most reliable and affordable you can think of ?
Looking at getting a Vintage this year and will be doing a test ride as soon as we're past this worldwide virus (stay safe everyone), but can anyone tell me how different the Vintage rides and handles compared to the Springfield - around town and on the highway? I know the rake is different so I'd just like to know ahead of time what to expect, especially around town. Thanks
The rake is now the same on 2020 models so will handle the same. 2014-2019 CV models have the longer rake like mine. Town riding is less agile but you get used to that, highway riding is better for me because it feels more stable at speed. It's a personal preference I suppose. Good luck!
I've just acquired a 2016 Vintage. It is yellow and white. Part of a batch of Vintages sent to the dealer only primed ready for the dealership in Sturgis to paint them (Dimension Custom Paint and Body). No one seems to know what the yellow paint color is though so that's been challenging to find touch up paint. Another thing that makes me wonder, my 2016 has an oil cooler - yet you said they dropped the oil cooler for 2016. Was this on option in 2016?
I had a vintage in 2015 but after the Springfield came out, I just had to trade up to it in 2017. Just a much better bike for me. I kept my leather saddle bags though so I can trade over to those if I want when I want that vintage look but I must say….I don’t miss having to was those all chrome rims and white walls at all. Vintage was a great bike but the Springfield has everything I wanted from a real riders experience and still have that vintage look when ya want
SO, Indian made a great comeback in the motorcycle industry/market in large part due to the VINTAGE, Springfield, & ............ . Ok then, Why is Polaris dropping Vintage line? Isn't that like biting the hand that feeds you!? I believe it is a huge mistake. So what if Vintage isn't as big a seller as the new kids bikes they've come out with. I do hope Polaris rethinks that decision. But who am I but an olde school rider. There, I've said my piece. Is anyone really listening? From where you ask. Well, I'm from what they call 'the states'. The state of Euphoria, at the thought of picking out my Vintage. It'll either be one of the last 2021 Vintage left overs on the showroom floor.... or.... one of several used ones listed in New England. Yes indeed, there are a handful being offered by riders who have had to hang up their cut & helmet due to hip replacement, bad back & knees, or fear of maniacs with rude behavior and road rage. 75 isn't too olde now is it?
Good luck with finding your Vintage. I really would like to see Indian bring it back in the near future but I fear that the Super Chief has seemed to have taken its place.
It's good. Depending on how you ride you're looking anywhere between 160 and 240+ miles. On a fast, twisty road you'll be looking at the lower range. On a long motorway at constant speed on cruise (especially if cruising at 70) you'll get well over 200 miles. Packing, not as good as a Springfield as the bags aren't lockable. That said, I tend to use the saddlebags for heavier gear and throw my clothes in a big roll bag over the rear seat (now a luggage rack on mine).
Nice vid I was actually looking at Harley but not any more 😜 So I know is a bit 🤮 but is it possible to upgrade the back seat for my passenger long distance comfort. Has it got USB ports? Cruise control? Thnks.
Well, I have a 2016 vintage, also a 2018 scout. thinking about letting the vintage go. I'll be turning 62 this year. after watching video decided not to part. Oh williow green.. Scout the same ..
No major known faults as long as it's been serviced at the right intervals and not abused. Get the vin number and get your nearest dealer to check that any recalls have been done, like you should when buying any used bike 👍
Waiting on financing to go through on a 19 chief vintage, with 225 original miles on it, I'm researching to make sure that's what I want. Visually, yes, I need to know it's not a hand grenade waiting to blow up like some other bikes.
@@RebelRides thanks for the great video, your bike knowledge and enthusiasm has git me excited to hear from my credit union, hopefully by Monday, Ill be finishing the break in period on a 3 year old brand new Indian..😂
I found your 7/23/2019 vid today- on 11/21/2021 and find your 10 points useful. I'm from Lynn, no not England, but the States. I heard that prior to 2017 there were lots of problems with the Indian Vintage; tho I'm checking a 2014 Vintage 'well cared for', 8000 miles, for $13,500.oo .So tell me, is that a fair price because I find Kelly Blue Book values it @ $10,865.oo., NADA @ $11,415.00., J.D.Power @ $8,400.00 to $10,400.oo . So, what say you? It's either this 2014 Vintage or a new 2021 @ $20,499.oo plus a 900.oo surcharge. (...isn't that surcharge a bit rediculous!)
No issues with my 2014 model. Some had issues with the tan leather fading. That's all. 2017 euro bikes were underpowered, sorted with a stage 1 kit. If its been regularly serviced they should go on forever, such an unstressed engine.
You can, the Stage 1 sounds loud enough for me. Deep and bassy without being obnoxious. Bassani true duals are a full system that will make it roar but they're a bit too much for me.
One owner raves about his Indian and the next owner tells about all his bad experiences with his Indian. I guess it comes down to if you got one made on Monday or Friday. One indian owner posted a video of the terrible paint job and how rust was coming through all the paint. I guess if it's one off and not everyone experience its safe to buy one.
Well, those owners tend to be the ones that don't look after their bikes. I've been caught out in bad weather but I try to clean it as much as possible. If you don't look after any bike it'll fade. I've owned Hondas that I've used as a commuter mule and that looked wrecked with rust after the first winter. If you look after your bike, your bike will look after you is what I say.
@@RebelRides When rust is coming through the paint from a bad paint job that the metal was not prepped correctly, there is very little the owner can do to stop that. Indian should recall bikes with a bad paint job not stick the customer with their poor product.
I won’t be selling my 2019 Indian Chief Vintage Iconic Thunder either. Hands down the best bike ever! You need to update the info. My new Vintage is two-tone black and yellow. I’m from Florida. Great video!
Ah the Icon series. A special limited run of colours. Yes I forgot to include those didn't I. There's some stunning colours in the icon series.
Thanks for the tip. Absolutely with you on the not being able to ride it anywhere without someone wanting to talk to you! 😂
Noted several comments here that refer to bystanders stopping to stare or wanting to talk about the machine. BUT isn't that a good thing? Sure it is. Just convinces you that you chose wisely & should keep it once you own it. For a lot of riders, it's the bank's till that big note is paid off., and then you can have a mortgage burning party! . Anyone here had one of those? Let us know. :>}

Hi and thank you for your videos. I'm also a proud owner of a 2016 Indian red vintage, and like you I'll never get rid of it. In my opinion the chief vintage is one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever made.
👏 thank you, yes there's not a lot I would change, if anything.
Its the BEST LOOKING bike of all time
Is it reliable?
Yeah they got the look :) Hollywood

Bet you've got warmer weather than we've got here in the UK right now! Thanks for the comment ✌️
Good job! I feel the same, I don't want to sell my Springfield. From New Brunswick, Canada.
I'm just waiting for the right weather to bring it out again!
Great Video for a great Bike always wanted a Indian, but at 77 have never had a Motorbike, but damn it one Day perhaps! From southwest Britain.
Great review 🎉
Thank you 🤗
I'd have one in a heart beat........beautiful machine.
But I wouldnt sell my Thruxton, so when my boat comes in and not before.
I'm the same with this. There's other bikes I really want but they'll have to wait until I can afford them because this one ain't leaving my side! 👍
I have one of the first numbered bikes - a red 2014 Vintage. Since the Vintage has now been dropped from the lineup, I will probably never sell it.
I'm feeling very much the same way.
As long as servicing is up to date it should be a great bike. Congratulations
Hi!
Thanks for your list. You mentioned handling in the video. I would like to fulfil my dream of buying an Indian at some point. Now I'm hesitating between the Springfield and the Chief Classic. Have you had the opportunity to test ride the Springfield?
I came across your video by chance. I myself come from the south of France where the motorbike season never really ends :D
Greetings
The Springfield and Chief shared the same chassis from around 2018 so will handle pretty much the same.
@@RebelRides Thank you very much for your answer!
My question is from 2016-2022 in your opinion what is the most reliable with the most gadgets to buy new VS used bang for you buck ?
If you want gadgets then a Chief Vintage is not what you want. You'll need a touring bike. Biggest bang for your buck would probably be a Chieftain.
@@RebelRides that was a fast response thank you.Ill change my search to the Chieftain. Are there a particular years that are the most reliable and affordable you can think of ?
No difference in reliability but 18 model onwards are better equipped.
@@RebelRides which in particular are your suggestions ?
Very informative video thanks
Nice video. Missed the “secret” icon colors, and it seems a lot of owners change the rear suspension out for the chieftain air shock.
The Icon series colours are never published for whatever reason. Maybe so dealers can sell them as dealership specials? 🤔
Good luck!
Love my 2015 CV.
She's a beautiful bike Chris. Looking forward to seeing her again! 👍
Pismo Beach CA My 2018 Blue and white Vintage Will be Mine as Long As me and my Dog are Able to Ride!! Cheers
To right 👍🏼
Watching from Bethungra, Australia
Hello from the other side of the world!
Hi, congratulations on your bike and yes, the oil cooler was still an optional extra in 2016.
Thanks for the video, very informative and i got what i want to know, having Harley fatboy and i am switching to indian 🎉
Happy to help
Just thinking about the next bike, nice review, I am from Wisconsin usa- go packers
Thanks for watching
Awsome Fla res 😎👍🏽
😁
I love my 2014 Cheif Classic (White Brave), I’m in Brisbane Australia 👍👍
Nice information blog there daz you know how I found you and I'm from the north west Lancashire but I'm originally from Birmingham 👍👍😎😎
Thanks Neil. 👍👍👍
Marcus from South Africa. What is it like on a long trip for petrol and packing.
Thanks for the vid. I'm going to check out a 2015 at my local dealership. How reliable is the bike and how is maintenance?
Very reliable, maintenance is done by the garage but easy enough.
Whats it like it slow traffic? How tall are you and is it as comfortable as it feels when i sat on one in a showroom?
In traffic it's big. Not something I like to commute on in the UK and it does get hot if idling. I'm 5'7" and I find it comfortable.
Nice vid
I was actually looking at Harley but not any more 😜
So I know is a bit 🤮 but is it possible to upgrade the back seat for my passenger long distance comfort.
Has it got USB ports?
Cruise control?
Thnks.
Cruise control as standard. Lots of seat options available including a cooling seat option!
The rake for 2020 is now 25 degrees like the Springfield ...
Correct but this video came out a while ago now.
great Job !
thank you so much!
Great review.
Michigan
Thanks, and hello Michigan!
Not sure what you said but by the Thumbs-up I take it was good!
Well, I have a 2016 vintage, also a 2018 scout. thinking about letting the vintage go. I'll be turning 62 this year. after watching video decided not to part. Oh williow green.. Scout the same ..
They're a heavy old lump but they're beautiful aren't they
Do they sell saddle bags without the tassels ? Like as seen in the special edition bikes?
Yes they do but as accessory items.
I cut my tassels’ length right in half, and they look much better - plus you can really see the fishtail pipes...
I bought a 2020 at a he end of August and I too, will never sell mine.
Great bike isn't it 😁
Is the rumor true that you can't buy replacement tires for Indian from anyone else but Indian? FYI... (I just stumbled onto your site)
No you can get tyres from anywhere that supplies Dunlop. They aren't special, just Dunlop Elites. 🖒
Thinking about a classic chief 2016 white looks great $ 11k, low miles 7k, any advice, I am from Wisconsin usa
Still got my 2014 bike and it's still running great! I can't believe how long I've owned it now ✌️
@@RebelRides thanks for the great video, your bike knowledge and enthusiasm has git me excited to hear from my credit union, hopefully by Monday, Ill be finishing the break in period on a 3 year old brand new Indian..😂
2014 vintage in the dark blue and i think ill keep her by the way i just rode about 400 miles on her yesterday in usa-georgia
I have a 2016 Vintage and won't sell her
Her name is Wakinya ( Lakota for Thunder) Lancaster, Pennsylvania!
Awesome 🤘
Can you get louder pipes for it
You can, the Stage 1 sounds loud enough for me. Deep and bassy without being obnoxious. Bassani true duals are a full system that will make it roar but they're a bit too much for me.
What helmet is that? Want to get one of those
It's just an Indian Motorcycle open face helmet with a Subric visor.
Thanks. Lifetime Harley guy. Getting ready to buy my first Indian. Your video helped me decide. Getting 2014 Vintage
I don't regret ever buying mine 😁
I got to your video because someone has an Indian chief vintage for sale and I'm nervous.... Buyer's remorse?
Not for me. Here I am 8 years on, still got it.
I'm from Oxfordshire
Cool, most of the views for this video come from the US!
It may just be my next bike once I wear out the #indianscout60
I am not a fan of all the frills on the saddlebags and seats, etc.
For me they work with the two tone bikes and tan leather but I prefer the solid colours without - like mine. 👍
Think the bike needs a sound system
It does, it's the rumble of that Thunder Stroke 111 engine through the stage 1 air cleaner and fishtail exhausts 😁🤘
that thing is your nose looks so fucking cool.lol
Iove mine
