You know, I've noticed this over multiple reviews, but Linkara tends to play Batman as a Cloudcookoolander with Alfred as his belligerent assistant.
We need more of Alfred playing straight man to Batman’s crazy.

So the last time we looked at Batman: The Dark Knight we were introduced to the new villain The White Rabbit, who was dropped from the book without explanation.
Now that the book has reached an arc involving the Mad Hatter The White Rabbit is nowhere to be seen.
I know the creators didn't have any plans for the character, and development early on in the New Fifty Two was hell, but this seems like a wasted opportunity.
you would think White Rabbit wuld be thought by other writers as "Mad Hatter's henchwoman"
@@ianr.navahuber2195 My first thought was that she could have been Alice from this story and work that reveal in as the big twist. Show that all this time she was leading Batman to a possition to take down the hatter for mistreating her in their past.
I don't know what happens between the Hatter and Alice as is, but given how he behaves, and the fact that D.C. can at times go WAY over the top with "dark and gritty" content, I imagine it's not pleasant.

I think Gotham's people gotten used to the constant danger of super villains showing up and wrecking havoc by now. I mean, they have friggin Bat-Burger by now with meals themed after villains like Joker.

No seriously. She is fridged before the end of this arc. Batman gets totes mad, beats everyone, punches someone so hard that their jaw dislodged from their skull, and then... nothing else. It just kind of stops.

I hear The Flash's new 52 run was good at least. Still I'll never forgive it for what it did to Wonder Woman.
@@JaelinBezel Flash was better than the other 52 books, but they were not has good as the last 10 years before the new 52. The 90's-2010's Flash comics focus mostly on the Flash Family as a group. (Barry, Wally, Jesse Quick, Jay, Bart), The new 52 just made into a solo hero book again
My brother always used to complain about losing that part of the Flash. He came in in the era when Wally's kids had just gained super powers and I think that part of what drew him to the book was seeing a character having to deal with having a family beyond just 'they can never know' (we were pretty new comic fans at the time)
I think it's typical of the New 52's problem though. One of the greatest advantages DC had before then was this massive sense of legacy, heroes had their own idols in the community, successful brands had become these generational families of heroes, with new people picking up the mantle or inventing new identities... And then they went and tried to squash it down into 3 years... It's not that there weren't good things in it but DC was never as good at the 'small hero starting out' for my money than Marvel was. DCs trade seemed to be legacy... That said I entered comics with 52 and then span out into the Birds of Prey because of issues I had with Daredevil... so maybe I just have weird priorities?
@@packman2321 Wally is definitely the best Superhero. He never had a tragic backstory. Both of his parents were alive, they fought alot and got divorced (which is related to kids) After his best friend Barry Allen died, Wally gave up on having an secret identity, just let the world know that he was the Flash. He didnt need to have a Tragic backstory to become a hero. He was a normal kid, who's role model was a super hero, and even after Barry's death Wally always looked up to Barry, continued his legacy, and the multiple times Wally has lot his powers and continued to help people, he's always the true embodiment of a hero.
Then New 52 turned Wally West into a Black kid sterotype where his dad's in jail, and he's was a wanted be gangbanger. thank god they brought OG Wally back in rebirth
@@JaelinBezel Also Aquaman was pretty good and Demon Knights. Though I kind of agree about Wonder Woman, I also kind of like some of her New 52 stories. Though I hate her "new" origin. Especially how Hera ends up reacting to it especially as the Amazons worship her directly. That whole bit was meh to me.

So I actually decided to read the entire run with this book because of Linkara’s old review...
And man it got terrible. There was an entire arc where Scarecrow did NOTHING in his basement while Batman was doing... something. Plus Scarecrow was like in 2/3rd of the book... DOING NOTHING!

I did like Crane's new52 origin at least plus his dad being killed by the Court of Owls could have led to neat stories but no one else continued that plot.
And for some reason Scarecrow stitches his lips together because… I dunno, scarecrow I guess. At least when Scarecrow got spooky surgery in Arkham Knight it was because Killer Croc ate his face.
Oh. I know what villain Scarecrow was inspired by when he decided to try to "win" by doing absolutely nothing.

I think this is one of the most fun episodes you've had in a while. I mean its a normal, average story arch with a little bit of meta backstory, but nothing major. You just went through the general events of the episode and poked fun at the story and characters, and it never once felt remotely mean spirited. I really enjoyed it!

Also, I really don't like this version of Mr. Hatter. Mostly because he seems to have been reduced to a murderous psycho and not a chessmaster.

My favorite incarnation of the Mad Hatter was from Batman ‘66, where he turned Batman’s cowl pink.

RE: Too many Batman books. I thought it was hilarious. The New 52 had 52 titles per month, divided into about eight "groups". Batman Group, Superman Group, Everybody Else Group, Their Sidekicks Group, Horror/Supernatural Group, Western/War Comics Group, and maybe a couple others. And within a year, the Batman Group had over a 17/52 titles - 6 of which were Harley Quinn.
The New 52 had this weird need to make every villain a homicidal maniac like the Joker and I am just not here for it at all. Like there's no reason for Jervis Tetch to be snapping people's necks or capping people in the head. This is the guy that, in B:TAS, was willing to keep Batman in a happy-land dream just to keep him out of his hair when he could just as easily have killed him.
Man, that breakup scene really reminded me of the depressing-as-all-hell shade-throwing they did towards this crap in the Lego Movie 2. WHICH THEY COMPLETELY DESERVE. This kind of thing is one of the main reasons why I think Dick Grayson would make a MUCH better Batman. Plenty of bad things have happened in his life, too, but he still lets himself HAVE one outside of them.

I totally forgot until I watched this review that EVS went through a "can't decide if I want to be a poor man's Bryan Hitch or lazy Brian Bolland knockoff" phase during the New 52, in between his "I'll settle for being a Brian Bolland wannabe" and "CG Dickhead" phases.
I remember DC and Wizard going out of their way at every turn to try and shove this dude down people's throats as the next ultra mega superstar artist for DC in the mid to late 2000s... And then Sinestro Corp War happened and they were both like, "Fuck that, let's go with Ivan Reis and David Finch instead;" now that I'm seeing these bland, phoned in pencils again that he was putting out just a few years after being dumped down to DC's midcard, I can totally understand why they bailed on him being their all-star the way they did. If lazy ape-job stuff devoid of any semblance of personal style is what you end up getting from a notoriously slow penciller who is supposed to be the top artist in the company, should he really even be considered the top artist in the company and getting main event level gigs?
I still think the dumb logic Catwoman had for breaking off the wedding was intentional, and that Tom King is going deconstruct the idea that Batman has to.

It reminds me of a Superman story where someone kidnaps Lois, Jimmy, and Perry and places them in lead coffins hidden throughout the city. Superman finds them easily because the lead coffins stick out like a sore thumb to his x-ray vision. He didn't need to be able to see inside them, just find the coffins and release his friends.

I decided to check out the rest of this storyline and hoo boy, is it awful. That Natalya women? You know, that character who was only introduced in this storyline? Well, Batman tells her his secret identity an issue later, gets kidnapped and tortured in a gratuitous fashion by Mad Hatter and gets pushed out of a helicopter before landing on the bat signal. Literally, her entire character arc was to look pretty, get told that Bruce Wayne is Batman after what I'm guessing was a few dates and then gets killed off to make Batman sad for awhile. What a great character arc, huh?

Hey it’s Richard Friend! I met him at a party in San Diego, way nice. He invited my gf and I to wildstorm studio where he kept gifting us comics from piles just lying about. We got to see Whilce Portecio’s office with cool sketches on the walls from wetworks. We also saw Jim Lee’s office door, didn’t get to enter but twas still cool. Thanks for reminding me of a fun experience
Yeah, I had to pause and hold my head silently for about twenty seconds after "Bata-mining software."
I wrote about this as part of my "Worst Comics Of The 2010s (Thus Far) series on my Tumblr and... hoo boy does this get so much worse. One thing I noticed about these first two issues is comic can't seem to decide how smart The Mad Hatter actually is. How can the guy be smart enough to set up all of those shell corporations if he's so unstable as to randomly kill his own minions?
Also it eventually touches on one of my real pet peeves of the New 52 in which EVERY Batman villain is some kind of city threatening madman to the point that even Harley Quinn is now a mass murderer.
Also on a trivia note the artist of this book quit comics to cut the heads off of Star Wars dolls on TH-cam. Yeah it's *that* guy.

I just want to thank you Linkara. Despite the efforts of those close to me it's been one of the truly terrible back to work days and a part of that was being judged at work for wearing glasses. I haven't had my eyeware mocked regularly since elementary school and not at all to my knowledge outside of cruel comments by my ex. For whatever reason it was the straw that broke the camel's back and I've been depressingly dwelling on it since. But on seeing your intro today I realized how stupid it was and it lifted my spirits watching you affix your own fine glasses atop your noble nose. Thanks for being awesome, man. I've watched you regularly since 2011 and never regretted it. Rock on!

I don't know about the artist or the writer, but I rinse empty plastic bottles so they don't attract ants and then set them by the window so sunlight can help them dry! Then I take them to the market for recycling.
