    From the other side as a shoetube media consumer, I believe you are spot on Tim. It kind of reminds me of motor racing 'Le mans GT rules' , and all the power too them , after pondering about it since BITR first got the ball rolling the other day , I believe it is a good thing what Adidas are doing ..not only should it completly shake the pro's up (no more pretending .. its pushing it's athlete's to win with the best it can offer ) but I believe we should see cheaper shoes for all other amature runners with the same tech where applicable trickle down at a quicker rate. I can't wait to see Puma's main stream answer to this in the next year.. PS love the fact you could hear Sue come home part way through your vid with the Ring notification lol .. George Orwell got it wrong .. little did he know we the public would have the compulsion to actually purchase the monitoring devices ourselves with some of us (ehem) willingly posting data directly ourselves 🤣

      @TimGrose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah happens in bike tech. Even Shimano 105 has electronic shifting now and that’s only their tier 3 group set. Bit heavier than Dura Ace & Ultegra but apparently better than they were say 10 years ago already. Of course pros use Dura Ace as looking for every edge. Motor racing good analogy too. At least in running we can have kit that is generally the same and can always buy say a Soar vest if think might help :)

    Everything Tim said I agree with and I think strategically putting it @ 400 quid they slowly condition us to think that £250 for a normal supershoe is cheap.

      And on that I have bought 3 such “super” shoes at that price point of late (Rocket X2 & Endorphin Elite & Prime X2 Strung) but none of which I view as superior to my 4 year old Vaporflys. Cost to me to find - 2 of these Evo 1 ones.

  • @DevRunner

    Adidas have completely alienated me with this shoe and this pricing, No chance they get my business, just on principle that they're trying to make less experienced runners think that more money means better shoes means better performance. Just slap on some Cliftons and log some miles!

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly has raised some comment. I do think this is a bit of a special case and subsequent to this video heard that actually Nike did exactly the same with the Vaporfly Elite few years ago and that did not exactly stop a wide range of runners later picking up Vaporflys and Alphaflys. Am watching Berlin now. Looks like Kipchoge is holding off the adidas runners but the first woman looks to be in them.

    My original take was the Evo v1 was the one the elites are getting and v2 is going to be a wider release next spring. However, the more I dug into the photos Adidas released the less I think that. My take on all of this is currently uploading.

    I think they have priced it high as they don't want many takers of the shoe yet. And it's been released for general sale, so the pros are allowed to race in the shoe with the new guildlines, etc. Also, I think the pros will give more feedback about how the shoe performed in a race. A few changes will be made for mass production, and release price will be a lot cheaper.
    Also, Muzuno did it with their carbon shoe, saying its a marathon shoe for runner sub 2:40 or something. Maybe companies are targeting certain athletes with different products and see this is the way forward 🤷🏿‍♂️

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Guess sort of going full circle. Generally racing flats were only recommended to be used by faster runners and I can't recall anybody being "upset" the elites effectively wore different shoes to the mid packers as it were. Commercially it does not make much sense though which is partly why the R&D costs of shoes like this must be so high. That said golden "advertising" for adidas if their elites can beat the Nike ones in this shoe.

  • @brianreiter5572
    @brianreiter5572 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m glad that Adidas are working technologies to reduce the weight, even if this is a glorified prototype. The Adizero line are heavier than they should be in large sizes. The Adios Pro 3 is a very nice tempo day shoe but it heavy enough to really make it uncompetitive with a Vaporfly or Sky+ or Endorphin Elite in a size 13.

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that a US 13 or UK 13 for you? For me in a US 14 (UK 13.5 in adidas) then yeah the Adios Pro 3 are a bit heavier at about 285g compared to Endorphin Elite 270g and Vaporfly 3 255g. Sky+ only goes to a UK 12/US 13 so not been able to try that one. Seemingly these Evo 1 could be around 200g for me which is a huge difference and largely why keen to give them a go as that is a typical weight in say a size 8!

    • @brianreiter5572
      @brianreiter5572 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel very lucky that I am generally ok with a 13US, except for La Sportiva which is 13.5.
      Adios Pro 3 is about 280g.
      Takumi Sen 8 is 240g.
      Boston 11 is 360g (down from 375g).
      Vaporfly is about 240g.
      Streak 7 about 240g.
      Streakfly 210g.
      Streak LT 3 177g.
      Nice daily trainers are in the 280 to 320g range.
      The Adizero range is exactly in the weight class of the next class in other brands. I ran several marathons in a Streak 6/7. Some uphill mountain half marathons in a LT and one an uphill 20-miler in the LT (which was a mistake). Marathons and ultras in the Vaporfly. But the Takumi Sen is tough going for even a half marathon - yet it is the weight class of a Vaporfly. The Adios Pro 3 is in the class of a light daily trainer (which sadly is kind of how I use it rather than buying a Boston 12.)

  • @thebullfighter6733
    @thebullfighter6733 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For me it’s deeper than the performance of the shoe or who the shoe is for. If you want to run in this shoe as a Canadian, the shoe would cost 777 dollars after tax. If you add on race registration it would cost $1000 dollars ~ per marathon (the shoes are good for 1 marathon) plus travel and hotels unless you just do local races. If you include flights call it around $1000 + hotel $500 dollars for the weekend + shoes and registration youre looking at about $2500 dollars per marathon. With about 50% income tax I would need to clear 5000 dollars before going down this road cost for cost. It truly is wildly expensive. It really brings running into a far more expensive space and atmosphere.

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess though travel costs have always been high. It would certainly cost me similar from the UK to do one of the major marathons say in the USA and however much your shoes of choice cost it is still a minority of the overall cost of doing one of these races.

    • @thebullfighter6733
      @thebullfighter6733 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TimGrose true but a vaporfly is good for 2 maybe 3 marathons and then can be a training shoe. That adidas shoe for the common person comes out to about 13 British pounds per mile of cost. Will the shoe be 3x better than the vaporfly? I guess we will see. I do know an additional 1000 dollars of shoe cost per race is fairly steep. If you run 5 races a year for example that shoe will run you 5 grand on the year. That’s more than my car insurance and house insurance

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thebullfighter6733 I very much doubt if it will make any significant difference for the majority of us but even in marathons the differences between winning or otherwise can come down to a few seconds and I think adidas are looking to given any possible advantage to their elites. We will have to see. I use Vaporflys for nearly all my races (including 3 marathons in recent years) so a shoe using Lightstrike Pro may not suit me as well anyway. I use the Adios Pro 3 and Takumi Sen 9 for training a fair bit but never really convinced enough to use them in a race. Have to admit this is mostly my curiousity at wanting to get a pair. If they really only last for one marathon, I very much doubt would use them for that as by the time I have done some runs in them for a TH-cam video I may have worn them out.

  • @cesarzoghbi4695

      Realistically think the chances of "winning" in the draw are slim but will see. I probably would test it over shorter distances than longer ones as then could run a lot faster and perhaps be somewhere a bit nearer the target paces. Guess it all depends how long they really would last.

    Crikey, apparently this shoe is just 138g in a 8.5 with a 39mm stack - so probably around 130 in my size (8). If the performance is Vaporfly like then the massively reduced weight will make it very a very deductive proposition.. I could be tempted for a very big target race like London or some other marathon major. Or an International Masters event. Otherwise it’s just far too much. But I’ll see what you and others say.
    That work around the A3 can be a bit of a pain, especially at the A3/M25 junction as you come off the M25. The country seems to be covered in roadworks at the moment!

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I guess the big question is whether the performance will be still as good as a Vaporfly and indeed whether the very light weight actually "works". Well done for getting to the A3 bit :) I decided to go on past Junction 10 coming from the M3 to junction 9 as there a half mile queue to leave the M25 at J10 and only single lane.

    I like your take, Tim, I do however think that the Pro's should be using Dunlop GRN 142's, they are after all elite runners in their prime. The fancy light fast stuff should be for old dudes like me, I need all the help I can get.
    Just like cycling the pros should be using solid steel frames and octagon shaped wheels to prove how good they are and the carbon should be for crap riders like me to stop me getting a heart attack up a steep hill.

    Am now entered in the draw. Half hoping I don' t "win" as 500€ is a lot of money for a shoe.
    But yeah, like you, I' m definitely very intrigued now. Endorphin Elite is on the same level as the top Nikes imo but these look like they have the potential to actually beat the Swoosh.
    One thing I' ve been wondering about, is has the one Marathon + Tuneup actually been confirmed by Adidas or written out anywhere? Of course these won' t go as far as Asics Kayanos or something but kind of doubt they will fall apart after two runs though.

      Good point on the one marathon thing. Could not find it official adidas copy so used the Runners World quote supposedly from an adidas person. Also seems will be on the box. Kind of feel no lose situation. If “win” get to try them, if not save a lot of money. Not convinced about Endorphin Elite. 33 miles so with a road session, a largely firm grass and gravel parkrun. Thought doing a vid on this Evo 1 topic more in the moment as still not sure what to conclude.

    I run at half the Speed of the Elite runners so I don't think it's for me but I do get my best results in the Adidas Pro 3 and Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro.. Also it's so much fun to run in such light shoes that give you so much back. Regarding the durability I think it's because of the foam / energy rods combination. If you get lighter foam then there is little to prevent the rods from sinking into my foam... 😂. I think this is why they went with the plate and not rods in the Prime X2. The cookie in the middle is to soft to hold the rods? You will get slices of it 🙄.

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah have subsequently seen comments that the way make this foam as a “special” is less resilient. Still can’t believe the stitching is going to be full proof either. Ironically the Adios Pro 3 isn’t that light for me in a UK 13.5 compared to the others being about 280g. These sound like could be around 200g for me which certainly perks my interest too.

      Yeah indeed. Rules on world records seem a bit vague. I read it as a development shoe could be used but would be taken away and possibly cut up to be sure it conforms.
