Good review, nice to see a genuine comparison from a neutral perspective not influenced by just the hype or freebies. Other TH-cam channels could learn from your approach and you definitely deserve more subs!
Thanks! Have to admit I do feel more comfortable doing these sort of reviews as I buy race/fast shoes to do just that so want to know how they will perform for me which is very hard to know unless you actually do this sort of testing and then evidence actual data rather than just saying they feel fast etc etc That said hopefully it helps others to target the shoes that might work for them. For instance those with smaller and/or wider feet may well prefer the Alphafly of these two.
The man, the myth, the legend, Mr Tim Gross is back with another brilliant on feet unbiased and analytical comparison review. In my opinion you are one of the most underrated TH-cam shoe reviewers
Thanks. I keep plugging away :) Most of the time I want to find out things for myself so if my findings help anybody else so much the better. Perhaps I won't win any prizes for great camera work, nice signature tune, coffee drinking & drone footage etc etc but these shoes are expensive and designed to race in so feel I want to know how they might work for that first and foremost.
@@TimGrose my line up last year was adios 6 for training and aap2 for race day and long runs. Going to use the adios 7 for training, adistar for recovery runs and aap3 for race and long distance training.
Another nice comparison video, Tim! Thanks for sharing your findings! Looking at the numbers you seem to be more efficient in the Adios Pro, I haven’t tried the 3 but am enjoying the 2 and found I have the best form to power ratio (from Stryd) with them, among all of my other shoes
Thanks Yeah if nothing else just felt more natural running in the Pro 3. Interesting about the Stryd stats. I haven’t really looked at that metric. Never previously found much of a shoe effect so I have stopped using it in these. I did have it with me but combination of being hard to put in the right place in the Pro 3, the rain and one less thing to switch over it stayed in the car. I am seeing a decent correlation between Garmin and Stryd power when have used it but at least the Garmin power comes for free as nearly always wear a HR strap anyway.
Great comparison Tim! I'm amazed to hear that the Adidas outperformed the Nike! Nice to see the other manufacturers catching up! I just bought my first pair of VaporFly2s! Very excited to see how they compare to the Endorphin Pro!
Yeah it was a bit of a surprise in some ways although I never really "got on" with the first Alphafly whereas others love it so there is that factor too. The Vaporfly NEXT% (1 or 2) I think still is my favourite carbon racer and indeed always tends to come up "top" in these tests. I will have to put it up against these two. Are you going to use it for your upcoming 5K race? Hope it won't be 100 deg for that! Oh and I also have got the Endorphin Pro 3 "inbound". Initial reviews seem very favourable. Too many shoes at the moment and that's without being to try the ASICS Sky+ and Edge+ as they stop at a US 13 whereas I would need a 14.
Good review as always. I tend to agree, I find that people correlate the bouncy feel of the Alphafly to mean more speed v the pro sort of snappy feel. For me personally the pro works better , but it's marginal.
I think it is marginal in all these shoes these days. I could still run as “fast” in the Alphafly 2 but, even with more tired legs at the end, it just was a fraction “harder” I would say.
Great video, Tim. Looking forward to grabbing the AP3 the moment I can sneak it through the door following the Alphaflys lol. Was all set to run my half in the alphafly today but switched back to a fresh pair of Adios Pro 2s this morning, feels like my safe and go to option. I know you said that with the drop changing you can feel more foam in the mid and for foot, has it lost any of that “throwing you forward” feel mate? Don’t get me wrong, the propulsive feeling on the Vaporfly is the standard for that but I do like the Adidas. I only spotted one other person wearing adios pros today lol, zoomX everywhere!
How did the race go? Yeah I think outside TH-cam reviewers essentially trying anything going, Nike is still way ahead on the start line but maybe few more NEXT% over Alphafly? I did feel the AF2 does throw you forward a bit yes like the AF1 and especially when doing the 3 mins intervals about my 10K-HM pace the other night with a bit more stride length and so less cadence although not so evident in the stats here. So I do feel the AF wants to alter my style slightly whereas do not feel the same in the Adios Pro 3 which seemed a bit natural - well as much as that can be in such high stack shoes.
@@TimGrose that’s makes sense, I suppose kind of like this theory put forward from Asics with cadence and stride. I’m a stride runner by some margin yet prefer a high drop, guess it’s personal preference. I think at elite level is probably more relevant when those guys are landing on their toes from start to finish and pushing the power stats up. I found the AF2 on my first run exactly as you described. I know you said you were unsure on the Endorphin pro 3, I’m very intrigued with that one as well. Drop, weight and stack look aggressive, I may be murdered if they turn up, the pink is less than conspicuous lol. Wasn’t bad thank you, described as “pancake flat” but had 600ft of elevation gain and head winds that felt like they were in every hill, so went to plan b and lowered the speed a bit, came in at 1:28:06 what I’m happy with considering the conditions and the GPS having a few issues under the trees. Was nice to finish one and know there was some left in the tank for next time if that makes sense.
Glad was some help. I have been using both on and off since filmed this and certainly the Adios Pro 3 is the one if prefer something not too soft and a bit of a “normal” shoe feel. Just found I needed to have a few goes with the Adios Pro 3 laces to get a lockdown that was happy with.
Wonderful comparison! I've raced my best marathons in the AF V1 but best training runs in the Prime X. I think I'll grab another AF V1 on discount and go for the AAP3. Just ran in the Sky + for the first time and I'm not feeling them. Great upper but I just can't getting them turning over like I can Next% or AF.
Interesting that you like both the AF1 and the Prime X which probably means will like the Adios Pro 3 as well. As you may have seen, I can't try the ASICS Sky+ & Edge+ as they stop at a UK 12 and I need a size more but maybe I am not missing much. Where does the NEXT% sit for you amongst all these? That's still my favourite but I ought to test it up against the Adios Pro 3 & AF2 as well to be sure.
Thank you, Tim. This data is so important, things are tight (money-wise) , and top shoes are so expensive, if I make a mistake with a race shoe I have to put up with it for at least 300 miles. I still have about 150 miles left in my vaporfly 2's (prefer them for 13.1 always feel like there is a lack of foam in the forefoot as the distance increases ). I really like the whole Shoetube community on both sides of the Atlantic (must not forget that wonderful MessyHappy peeps either ) but your channel and OldManRunner out of Dublin are my go-to for metrics.
Thanks. My feeling with the Alphafly 2 is that if you like the 1 would like the 2 but probably won't like the 2 if did not like the 1. I guess there is a factor that whatever you wear for marathon it is going to feel tough towards the end. I have worn the Vaporfly NEXT% for 2 marathon races now and I think for me it is a combination of a shoe that fits me better and is somewhat lighter than the Alphafly that wins me over. Now where the Adios Pro 3 sits in that is probably a subject for further testing but, in this test at least, the Adios Pro 3 felt more natural to run in and lighter and the lower drop than I normally like (6.5mm) did not seem to be a factor that I thought it might. That does although a fraction more foam in the forefoot.
@@runzization I feel the Vaporfly NEXT% v1 fits my narrow foot very well although did have to pull in the laces a fair bit. It is now kind of similar with the Adios Pro 3. The NEXT% v2 fitted bit wider than the v1 so had to work "more" to get a good lockdown but feel that I now have. The Alphafly v1 I always felt was wider than ideal for me and I had to pull in the laces far more. The Alphafly v2 is a bit better in that regard but still feels "wider" than the other the NEXT% 1/2 and Adios Pro 3. That said, I think unless you have exceptionally wide feet any of these are OK as for sure "out of the box" they are all feel a bit wide for me just slipping on. On that I would ignore the difficulty actually getting either Alphafly actually on in the first place.
@@TimGrose the "Run testers" actually said AdiosPro3 is coming up narrow. I know triathletes who swear by Asics Meta sky/edge saying it fits much better than VF. There is another shoetuber, "Oldman runner" who is really getting on with meta's. Our local shop just sold out in one day...A real loss for Asics though they refuse to make a full run of sizes when it's in their back pocket this whole time. Well it worked for Adi all you have to do is politely remind them there's no large size just make the size mold from Novablast! Which is tts whereas the metaspeed v1 is off by 1/2 size especially compared to Nike
@@runzization If ASICS ever deem to make their top shoes past a UK 12, I could perhaps give an opinion of them :) All adidas Adizero shoes are narrower than most brands but I had to pull in the laces 3 times with the Adios Pro 3 to get them narrow enough for me so I think they would accommodate a reasonable spectrum of runners.
Hi there, I just run in my Alphafly V1 and went to the shop to try the Alphafly V2. For some reason I find the Alphafly V2 very wide in the toebox. I have wide feet but it was to wide... Did you also find V2 wider than V1? Thinking of going down half a size.
Funnily enough I think I found v1 wider for me and nearly broke the laces getting them tight enough. Perhaps v2 just has a bit better midfoot lockdown for me. Been a while since used either as prefer the Vaporflys although v3 of that fits relatively wide too.
Good video, thanks! Did you feel the AAP3 were "flatter" than the AAP2 that have a severe lean towards the outside in the frpnt, a big problem for forefoot striking supinators!
I probably would say the 3 felt a little more stable just running along and better when had locked down the laces and secured my mid foot. They just felt more natural to run in than the Alphafly but all of these high stack shoes take a bit of getting used to and seemingly go best in a straight line as it were.
I love your quantative approach. I think the difference is small and is probably due to sequencing of the shoes. If you had chosen Alphafly as the first shoe it is possible it would get a bit more favorable look. I wonder if these speedy short loops enough to gauge the long run performance under more aerobic running conditions. I know such a test is hard to perform under controlled conditions.
Agree that could be a factor and sometimes I wear each shoe twice to try and minimise the effect. Here changing in and out of the Alphafly is a bit of a pain as they are hard to get off and on so I wanted to minimise that until have got more used to getting them on and off! Plus my coach had set me 5 x Mile with 60 secs so wanted to try and avoid getting too far away from that. There is also an element of "feel" in these tests and what I do actually like running in the most. That is sometimes hard to tell without "trying" in a shoe. A longer run test would be a good and also a bit slower as I was definitely faster than marathon pace here. That all said I feel I usually get a good "feel" for what might work for me in these tests and I was struggling to see that it would be the Alphafly 2.
Another solid review 👍 Great job saving my money 😊 I'm not a fan of Alphafly and have a narrow foot ( uk9 ) I love my aaapro2 but will wait till big discount codes are working before splurging the cash on aaapro3 Thanks Tim ✅ Trusted Shoetuber AAA rated 😁
Yeah surprised this one surprised me a bit but the Alphafly 1 or 2 just feels like too much shoe for me. Often you can great discounts on adidas and often have got 35% codes from running heroes to work which would bring this down nicely. Now that I have my right length be difficult for me to be truly objective comparing Pro 2 and 3 but the 2 always felt OK and as you may recall I saw no difference between the 2 and the supposedly racier Takumi Sen 8 so in that sense must be good and on feet of many major marathon winners.
@@TimGrose So you think the pro3 is better than the Pro2 🤔 Will be interesting to see you do a shoe off aaapro3 Vs VF 🤔 I love the sensation / energy return of the light strike pro.. much prefer it to zoomX
Thanks! Have to say so far am much still preferring the Vaporfly NEXT% but, as we discussed on another thread, more testing to do. Well I need to in order to try and justify the cost of buying them.
Nice neutral comparison, I too have the Pro 3 and the thing with Adidas is they'll get better as they break in, unlike alphafly which I'd doubt will change much. My Takumi Sen 8 feel lovely and springy at around 80 or so miles. Love the extra cushion these bring, I have this 12k or so trail run I do that I aim to break 1 hour on, I feel these shoes will allow me to do it 👍 Yeah the fit is a faff, but if you have the Takumi then it'll be pretty much the same.
Yeah on my first run with the Adios Pro 3 on Friday the laces worked a bit loose even after pulling them a fair bit so certainly needs a bit of work there. They certainly felt better in this run although I was using them more for their intended purpose of going “fast” as it were.
@@TimGrose There certainly is an adjustment period with these shoes, you'll find with time the upper will almost mould to you, and you'll only need to touch the first two laces getting in or out. I have elastic laces, but I get the impression the upper won't like them, as it is rather rigid so kind of needs regular laces. I'm finding that with the steep forefoot angle, my toes hardly see any impact so on their own they stretched right out which is a first for me. But love the unbiased review, very refreshing to see 👍 I certainly hope they'll look after you, perhaps do a comparison after 100 miles or so?
@@Huxley555 thanks and yeah agree my adidas ones have tended to mould to my feet over time. I got 170 miles out of the Adios Pro 2 despite being too small really and funny (or stupid) to think been doing this with adidas shoes for over 10 years so must like them and nice finally are actually properly long enough. I have just got the Adios 7 as well which will review soon when gathered my thoughts as it were. Does that one interest you ?
@@TimGrose Not really got the 6 and whilst good, soon as I got the Takumi Sen 8 I realised that the adios 6 was lacking in cushion. I take them out on the odd occasion, might use them just on parkrun, something nice and short. I have plenty other shoes that are as good or better, besides I run ultras more than anything. I'm doing shorter runs as my it band has been playing up, too much going up and down coastal steps. I have the 64 mile rat race coming up in 3 weeks, so need to be in tip top form 👍
Great insights Tim. My Adios Pro 3’s are due for delivery today. Be interesting to find out if I have a similar experience to you when comparing against the AF2.
Yeah look forward to your thoughts. Initially I thought the Adios Pro 3 was a fraction short of ideal for me but once eventually got the right lockdown seems fine and certainly glad of being able to get our “proper” size now. Alphafly 2 must feel huge in a UK 14. Way over 300g for a race shoe does seem too much to me.
@@TimGrose shoes have literally just turned up. I’ve not weighed my AF2’s yet. I found the original AF great for my marathon training earlier this year. They performed great in the race too. If a shoe can help preserve my legs and give me a good pace then I can deal with some extra weight, for longer distances anyway.
@@robwetherell I guess 297g :) I think mine “averaged” about 285g in a size less I presume (me UK 13.5). How wide are your feet relatively? I do feel that has a bearing on these two shoes with the AF2 fitting bit wider once got them on although did think AF1 was wider still for me and big reason why I struggled with them.
@@TimGrose I’ve got relatively narrow feet also. I’ve noticed that there’s more bunching up on the AF2 compared to the AF1’s when getting lock down sorted. I’ll weigh my shoes soon and post the results.
@@TimGrose I’ve just weighted the AF2 and Adios Pro 3. AF2, left 331g and right 333g. Adios Pro 3, both 311g. Just tried on the Adios Pro 3 and they feel great. I must admit, could do with an extra 5mm. Still around 10mm I would guess of space at end. Think these will definitely be for more shorter distances, but I’ll see how they get on over the coming months.
I think we are at the point now where if the Nike ones don't suit you then there are other options which will work pretty much as well. Might be good at some point to do this test again having had now a lot more time in both. TBH though, I still much prefer the Vaporflys to either of these and that's still the one I opt for in races.
Thankfully now adidas are doing my TTS ! Here UK 13.5. I did have to pull in the laces a fair bit and several times after each of my first runs in them so they should still work for a broader foot than mine.
Interesting test and results don' t lie. HR and Power was higher for you in the Alphafly. I agree with you on the feel of the Alphafly, just too much shoe. It always felt a bit sluggish to me and harder to get going in it.
Probably a separate video to see if Garmin power can really “detect” more effort for same speed in “slower” shoes as seemed to be implied here although I was of course using them last but just “on feel” it felt harder. Usually when I put on the Vaporfly NEXT% last in these tests, it gets easier not harder. Interesting though you think the Alphafly is also “too much shoe” as with somewhat more “normal” sized feet than mine presume are still relatively light?
@@TimGrose Actually I have smaller feet than average guys: EU 40. That should be UK 6.5. They' re pretty much the same weight as the Adios Pro 2 in my size. Yeah, they just feel a bit too soft and squishy, like I' m missing that response in the pushoff that I have in the Next% and they' re not as aggressive in throwing you forward.
@@robin29991 ah interesting. Is that the Alphafly 1 you are talking about there and the weights would be closer for me. Think the Pro 2 and 3 are pretty much the same but still bit less than the AF1. Something like 285 to 302g. Not much in it TBH but different on foot feel for sure.
It would be interesting if you did the same workout with rests and pace but reversed the order of the shoes for comparison, assuming you have the same fitness/endurance for the 2nd experiment and then compared your heart rate data.
Yeah good idea. I have just done a marathon so might have a bit of time now to repeat some of these things. I had only just got both shoes at the time. I ended up keeping with my favoured Vaporflys for racing but did some decent sessions in both these shoes.
How stable are they? I had the pro 2's and they caused old shin problems to flare up so I sold them on, purchased the v1 Alphafly and had no issues at all even breaking all my PB's from 5k to marathon in them. I then purchased the Adidas Prime X and they again caused my shin issues to flare up 😤 So I'm really apprehensive about buying the pro 3's and having the same shin issues 🤦🏻♂️
Adios Pro 3 do you mean? They were a little "wobbly" on the grass on a golf course on my first run (before this video) when I got a bit "lost" (and also on any corners) but given the stack not too bad. On the road just running along (where obviously these are meant for) I felt it was a lot better once I had sorted out the lockdown which, as I mentioned in the video, took 3 goes of pulling in the laces to where I wanted them. I would probably say that the 3 is a bit more stable than the 2 which felt very wobbly initially although I did get used to it and in the end preferred to the 1 which did feel more stable without any cut outs. I suspect if you had to abandon the Pro 2 and the Prime X these would not be the obvious choice for you. If anything I feel the Alphafly 1 or 2 is a bit wobbly too but also feel they make me a run a little differently which I did not feel anywhere as much in the Pro 3.
@@TimGrose Yeah I was asking if the Adidas pro 3's are more stable than the pro 2's? I just cannot seem to get on with adidas trainers for some crazy reason?? They cause my shins to just flare up so badly that I have to stop running until they calm down and the pain goes away but I've never had that issue with the Alphafly's for example 🤷🏻♂️ I really want to try the latest Adidas model but I fear it will just be more money down the drain
@@paulmulks really tough these days being so hard to just go to a shop to try them on as highly unlikely to have them. If the Alphafly works for you could well be a waste of money for you then.
@@TimGrose Yeah be good if more places allowed you to buy, do a few runs and then return if you didn't like 👌🏻 Think I'll just get the new alphafly over the Adidas offering, cheers Tim 👍🏻
Forerunner 955 is the black one on left wrist here which was one recording all the data and 945 the blue one for backup and another screen to glance at as am running. And basically yes on your second point. Just a shoe I can get to hug my midfoot just like the NEXT% which is probably still my favourite (but better do a Shoeoff with that) and somewhat lighter although the Pro 3 isn’t that light compared to some. I also like the cushioning under my toes where I see most wear in all my shoes.
@@TimGrose my favourite shoe is (like you) Next% v1. But for your opinion about AAAP3 seems like adidas has make an awesome shoe with no peba foam and no carbon plate (estrictly). Nice season, Tim👏👏
Next% has the best fit of all time for my narrow feet. I had to totally pass on the 2 as they fit way too sloppy in my normal size and too short when I size down
@@jxy5484 yeah agree the Waporweave in NEXT% v1 pretty much hugged my midfoot where my foot I feel is relatively narrowest. I actually felt after the 3rd "pull in" of the laces in the Adios Pro 3 I felt I had more or less got the same feeling so you might want to consider them. I felt just as you said with the NEXT% 2 originally but eventually managed to tug them in enough (accepting lots of folding) and they were the ones I raced in for my "half decent" 37 min 10K earlier this year. The one good thing about the 2nd version is the reduced toe bumper which does annoy me a bit in the 1. I have got 7 pairs of the 1st version and only one of the 2nd which says a lot too.
adidas UK 13.5 is same size as Nike UK 13. Both are US 14 or 32 cm shoes. I have the Invincible 1 & 2 in the UK 13 and fits fine. So yeah I would go UK 13 in the Alphafly and 13.5 in the Adios Pro 3. Great that adidas are finally doing our size. In adidas UK 13.5 I also have the Adios 7 and Boston 11. I have also just ordered the original Prime X but haven’t seen the Strung one in our size yet.
I'm heel to midfoot striker daily 5k run average time 25:00. I prefer to wear plush n comfortable shoes with maximum impact protection Kindly suggest for me adios pro 3 or teksumi 8? I want to go with teksumi 8 bcz i like narrow n slim looking shoes.
Ah on the caps - yeah can't stand them but a waterproof one does at least do a turn when it is chucking it down and/or it is "freezing". Wearing one back to front indoors however... Well I am 55 not 15 :)
@@TimGrose yuppo, there's a host of BS and wankery about.....strictly and diametrically opposed to your evidenced based and data driven content. keep up great work
I know you and I didn’t rate the Alphafly v1 over the Vaporfly for racing so I’m inclined to think the Alphafly v2 is a shoe I should pass on. All the same characteristics as the v1 re weight and clunkiness, only worse. Adiós v3 sounds ok, might be an option. I’d be interested to know what you think between that and the Next% 2. Once upon a time the Next% was a clear winner but I like it less than the Next%1 so I’m not so sure anymore.
I think with the Alphafly it is quite polarising. If you like the 1 think you will like the 2 but I don't see too many liking the 2 if did not like the 1. I just commented on another reply about the NEXT% 1/2. I have 7 of the former and only 1 of the 2 but the 2 I wore in my "half decent" 37 10K in January and I do like the reduced toe bumper in the 2. Otherwise it is "harder" to get a good lockdown for me in the 2 but I eventually did accepting folding. Lots have said the 2 feels firmer but after the original emerald green 1, all of them seemed slightly firmer to me. TBH not sure if what was a real "problem" or not. Maybe it is a bit of perception thing as when the NEXT% came out there was nothing else (bar the 4%) like it and all my shoes seemed firmer than these days.
@@TimGrose fair point about perception of firmness in the Next%. I just remember how bouncy the v1 felt. It was off that “feeling” I got my 74 min half. I have run a lot more in them since of course.
@@josephgonzalez_ Yeah I remember doing my first shoeoff video end of 2019 when it was like "night and day" difference going from say a Rincon or Zoom Fly 3 into them. Relative softness but "response" too. That pair have done over 300 miles now so can't now be sure haven't just softened a bit over time although I don't recall others doing so. I did originally get a size down in that original green pair as the UK 13 only appeared later so that one has a lot less on it. I wore them for some decent races in 2019 but literally every step felt uncomfortable due to the length or lack of. Might have to delve into this some more. Do I need to buy a durometer though LOL !
Very good reviews, I have wide feet so no Adidas.. Regarding the shoe size and traction. Increase of the surface contact without increasing the weight will have no positive effect. In cars widening the tires size but keeping weigh (pressure) constant does not increase traction. Actually in wet conditions you get less traction with wider tires. A lot of marketing goes into selling wide tires. Also for speed any wheels bigger than 17" will make the car slower but look more sporty.. Marketing.
Thanks. The Adios Pro 3 will accommodate a somewhat wider foot than mine as I had to pull in the laces 3 times until got the lockdown I wanted but that said of these two I feel the Alphafly fits wider but with wide feet going to be a struggle to get them on so maybe neither ideal. Haven’t you gone for the new Endorphin Pro 3? Be interested to know if that has got wider as the Speed 3 seems to have done. On traction I am relatively thin for my height but the scales currently say 74 kg which imagine is somewhat more than most in say a size 7. I also think of bike racing tyres where wider ones are very much in vogue compared to the 23 mm got on my now old bikes as can offer less rolling resistance but equally more confidence on corners.
@@TimGrose low profile tire has less flex in the sidewall and better ground contact in the bends but a harsh ride. I am wait for the Pro 3. Should arrive on Friday. I have the Speed 2 and they fit well but I went a half size up. I tried the Alphafly on in the shop and I had to work hard to wear them even with super thin socks. I will not buy a pair people have tried before because they will break the pull tabs..
@@i.p2088 be interested to hear how you find them. Yeah getting on the Alphafly (either version) is tricky although it was easier 2nd time for this yesterday. I didn’t really need too much “force” on the tabs but can fully see why those with wider feet would really struggle.
It is basically due to my age (55). The 220-Age max HR "estimate" actually works fairly well for me and so I have got 162 programmed in as my max HR on my Forerunners as that is about the highest have got to in the last few years. So this sort of "sub maximal" effort I would just be pushing into the 140s. When I was somewhat younger I got to a max HR of 193 in a lab test.
No, if anything, more the other way round for me. It's just that I now was able to get a full size bigger in the Pro 3 which feels about right for me whereas the Pro 2 was about 0.5 size short of ideal for me but it seemed to fit about 0.5 longer than other adidas shoes in the same size like the Adios 6 or Boston 10. So "overall" I think I have gained 0.5 size that I needed. I would now say the Pro 3 fits "true to size".
For me they felt really roomy these aaapro3 and the lockdown was so hard to get right for me and was just hard to keep them locked down ... The 3 did feel less wobbly then then 2 , im not sure if i felt any change from the upgraded rod pretzel 🥨 as they called it having tried 3 now I'm sticking with my Edge+ for overal feel comfort and responsiveness Awesome vid Tim thanks for your sharing
Yeah very similar with the lockdown. Will have to see how they are next time. I thought I would notice the 6.5mm drop in a negative way but I did not and in that sense very similar to the Takumi Sen 8.

Thanks for the info Tim. This is adds to my deciding factor and it convinced me more to buy adizero pro 3. 😉
@@TimGrosethanks. I think lightstrike pro is a good rubber
@@TimGrose I do like the Next% for 5k/10k/15k but seem to prefer the AF V1 for longer racing when I need to "lock" in a pace.
@@TimGrose yep your the go-to for big shoe review! So is next% wider overall? In your size Adi Pro 3 is + 1oz ?
Hmm...which one?
Another solid review 👍
Great job saving my money 😊
I'm not a fan of Alphafly and have a narrow foot ( uk9 )
I love my aaapro2 but will wait till big discount codes are working before splurging the cash on aaapro3
Thanks Tim ✅
Trusted Shoetuber AAA rated 😁
Yeah surprised this one surprised me a bit but the Alphafly 1 or 2 just feels like too much shoe for me. Often you can great discounts on adidas and often have got 35% codes from running heroes to work which would bring this down nicely. Now that I have my right length be difficult for me to be truly objective comparing Pro 2 and 3 but the 2 always felt OK and as you may recall I saw no difference between the 2 and the supposedly racier Takumi Sen 8 so in that sense must be good and on feet of many major marathon winners.
@@TimGrose So you think the pro3 is better than the Pro2 🤔
Will be interesting to see you do a shoe off aaapro3 Vs VF 🤔
I love the sensation / energy return of the light strike pro.. much prefer it to zoomX
@@lifephorce I think the 3 probably is yes but as mentioned hard for me to be truly objective when I only have my right size in the 3 not 2.
I want Alphaflys 2 and want to believe there the best loool Thanks for the reviews Glad i found your channel.
Thanks! Have to say so far am much still preferring the Vaporfly NEXT% but, as we discussed on another thread, more testing to do. Well I need to in order to try and justify the cost of buying them.
@@TimGrose Yh there not cheap but I guess they look at it as its once a year and peoples hobbies.
Nice neutral comparison, I too have the Pro 3 and the thing with Adidas is they'll get better as they break in, unlike alphafly which I'd doubt will change much.
My Takumi Sen 8 feel lovely and springy at around 80 or so miles.
Love the extra cushion these bring, I have this 12k or so trail run I do that I aim to break 1 hour on, I feel these shoes will allow me to do it 👍
Yeah the fit is a faff, but if you have the Takumi then it'll be pretty much the same.
But love the unbiased review, very refreshing to see 👍
I certainly hope they'll look after you, perhaps do a comparison after 100 miles or so?
@@Huxley555 blimey those ultras scare me. What shoes do you wear in them? Quite liking the Adios 7 actually - video on them should be out Monday AM.
Think these will definitely be for more shorter distances, but I’ll see how they get on over the coming months.
nice one Tim great review , looks like Nikes crown is soon to be knocked off
I think we are at the point now where if the Nike ones don't suit you then there are other options which will work pretty much as well. Might be good at some point to do this test again having had now a lot more time in both. TBH though, I still much prefer the Vaporflys to either of these and that's still the one I opt for in races.
Adios pro looks like it actually fits your narrow foot. Are those TTS or half size down
Thankfully now adidas are doing my TTS !
@@TimGrose Yes, am talking about the v1. v2 in my size would only be a couple of grams heavier so probably not noticeable at all.
Thanks for the help!
Thanks for watching!

Great metrics Tim.What are your running watch? For your perceptions seems like AAAP3 is more natural and comfy, really?
I had to totally pass on the 2 as they fit way too sloppy in my normal size and too short when I size down
@@jxy5484 in terms of fit the best shoes that I ever have are Next%, Adizero Adios Boost 2 & Adidas Energy Boost v1.
Does it looks bigger than invincible run ?
I also wear size 13.5 UK
adidas UK 13.5 is same size as Nike UK 13.

@@TimGrose yuppo, there's a host of BS and wankery about.....strictly and diametrically opposed to your evidenced based and data driven content.

I am still amazed with how low your avg HR
It is basically due to my age (55). The 220-Age max HR "estimate" actually works fairly well for me and so I have got 162 programmed in as my max HR on my Forerunners as that is about the highest have got to in the last few years. So this sort of "sub maximal" effort I would just be pushing into the 140s. When I was somewhat younger I got to a max HR of 193 in a lab test.
The pro 3 fits a bit longer than the pro 2
No, if anything, more the other way round for me. It's just that I now was able to get a full size bigger in the Pro 3 which feels about right for me whereas the Pro 2 was about 0.5 size short of ideal for me but it seemed to fit about 0.5 longer than other adidas shoes in the same size like the Adios 6 or Boston 10. So "overall" I think I have gained 0.5 size that I needed. I would now say the Pro 3 fits "true to size".
I prefer adidas pro 3 instead
Over the Alphafly 2 ? If so, same as me then.
Yeah
For me they felt really roomy these aaapro3 and the lockdown was so hard to get right for me and was just hard to keep them locked down ... The 3 did feel less wobbly then then 2 , im not sure if i felt any change from the upgraded rod pretzel 🥨 as they called it having tried 3 now I'm sticking with my Edge+ for overal feel comfort and responsiveness
