In Australia a good friend of mine and I both have Smartwave 3500 with tiller controls.
My friend has a Honda 20 4 stroke electic start and electric trim.
I have a Yammie 25 lightweight manual start, manual tilt - battery less fuel injection..
Both perform very well. We use them for exploring harbours, estuaries, rivers, lakes and dams throughout NSW state. Top speed 2 up with 25 is a bit over 25 knots. Good ride and handling and very stable at rest. Does not get too hot in the Aussie summer sun like a tinny.
With your boat test it would be good to see the boat running flat out and know the performance figures and fuel range on a tank.
Initially I put my Yammie 15 hp 2 stoke short shaft off my previous Polycraft 3 m Tuff Tender tri hull.. Amazing rig we nick named the "Flying Esky"... on to the Smartwave 3500.
The 15 hp is inadequate for getting on the plane readily... have to move forward.
Don't buy a short shaft Smartwave 3500. Too much backwashing coming off the plane quickly. Fortunately we had the short shaft transom unbolted and replace with a long shaft transom for the 25 hp long shaft... Go for the 25 hp... it really flies.
