Tara I wish you would interact when your mom talks. I know you got some it stuff going on but still. She looks at you while she talks for your input but you’re somewhere else. I do love both of you and your show.
I find my spices in the Mexican food area. Spices are expensive in the regular aisle but the Mexican section had spices in cellophane wrapping for .99 cents.
When my boys were small and I tried to take them shopping with me, it was a nightmare, so I came home and told my husband if you ever want to eat again you are watching the kids when I grocery shop! So he did! Saved alot of money and headache!
Hello Tawra and Jill ! So glad Jill could join in ! Both of you ladies look pretty and festive ! God bless y’all ! Sending big hugs to y’all , from TN ❤
If u know you are going to have surgery, plan ahead and cut up your veggies and stuff, wrap them well, then place in the fridge to make things easier on yourself🙂🙏
I have my chest freezer organized using reusable bags from the store. Example brown bag is meat pink for pork etc. I can just glance in the freezer and know what I have and which sales I need to look for.
Tawra & Jill, you have learned so many ways to stretch your food and money, because you share your ideas, I can reap the benefits of your knowledge. My mom was not one who wanted us in her kitchen and high school Home Economics was my only teacher. After marriage, I learned some cooking from my husband’s Grandmother. Thank You 🌹
I have a shelf for pork, 2 for chicken, 1 for beef and one for fish and cheese. The door is things like cooked beans, cooked rice, ginger, garlic, and leftovers. What gets me into trouble is when I run out of room on a particular shelf, I just have to poke it in where it fits, then things get unorganized and misplaced.
My husband and I have 2 small apt sized chest freezers. I keep a notebook for each freezer. When we add something to the freezer, I write the date and amount. My husband is the only one who touches the freezers ( my decision). I give him a 'grocery order' every 5-7 days, and he brings it to me, and I cross it off in my notebook. We also have an extra fridge, where I stock up on eggs, cheese and margarine.(they all last several months without any issues, even if past BB date) I give my husband the list, and then I cross it off in my 'extra fridge' notebook. He knows which one to give to me, as he is the only one touching it. That works for our family.
I absolutely love your cookbooks. I especially like the salad dressing recipes because there’s no added junk. Shelf stable dressings often have a lot of extras like MSG that might not be the best for everyone’s health. There are so many recipes that I enjoy from your books! Happy 25th anniversary.😊
I appreciate what all you do! Do you happen to have any recipes for the growing number of folks who suffer from Alpha-Gal Syndrome? My grown son has had it for over a year now and it's next to impossible to find more than just a few items he can consume. I feel so bad for the people that have and those that will get it. I thank you for ALL of your tips!
Look up vegan recipes and for products certified vegan. And I believe one can have chicken and fish without problems- so that should enable a huge array of meals.
Congrats on 25 years! Great achievement! Good reminder for me to check our washing machine.... & dishwasher to clean!! 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
I thaw my milk in cold water in the fridge I turn it and shake it everyday and sometimes ice will build up i remove it until it it is fully thawed it turns out perfect.
I just cleaned and reorganized our freezer this morning. It is small. Meat on the top shelf, veggies and fruit in the basket below. Opened bags of said fruit and veggies in the door, along with butter and cheese. (I’m sorry but what kind of cheese has an almost 5 month expiration date??😮). Congratulations on 25 years!! ❤❤🎉🎉
@Wanda about cookin eggs with water and a lid so you dont have to flip... I'm 57 yrs old. Thanks to you I don't have to wait until I'm 60 to find that out 😂
I am so with you on the wood fiber in the shredded cheese. Our parents used to tell us that we needed to eat a pound of dirt as kids and it would help protect us against germs as we got older. Don't have anything to back that up, but that's how I feel about shredded cheese too. Tawara, I cook a lot of rice at one time, cool it, bag it and freeze it. My sister has never learned how, she can't get it right to save her life. I don't recommend Boil-in-Bag rice, but she gets away with the shelf stable pre-cooked rice by Uncle Bens. When I am feeling generous, I will make her a full pound or two of dry rice, cool it, bag it and freeze it for her. Gotta help a sister out! Right now "contains bio-engineered ingredients" is the new frightening thing out.
.99 cents chicken thighs and legs. We don't eat meat, but my cats do and this is cheaper than cat food. I cook it all up then freeze it for them. Then I take it out and make it into a pate for them by adding eggs with a small amount of veggies in it. My cat is allergic to all the dry food. I save the fat too and add it into some of my dog's food because my dog tends to loose weight in the summer time because she is so high strung. I also save the bones to make bone broth. I use the broth that I cook the chicken in for chicken broth. I use all of this for food for the animals. They are spoiled, but they are my spoiled.
I cook for my cats too. I was at the supermarket and was shocked: chicken quarters at 2.50 per pound! What??? So, in the case there was discounted whole chicken, not first quality ( some feathers were still attached to the wings plus they were big hens) but $1.20 per pound. Half the chicken went into my tiny freezer. The cats and I are doing just fine. 😂😂🎉
I have both of your dining on the dime cookbooks, and I made the Chinese chicken, into sesame chicken, and it was delicious! For a fraction of the price!
I had two Maytags. They both lasted over 20 years and I had four children and a farmer husband with REALLY dirty clothes. I bought another one a couple of years ago from Home Depot. After washing about 3 loads in it I called them and had them come get it. It’s was junk. So after researching I saw good things about Speed Queen. They said they were made like the Maytags used to be over 20 years ago. So that and the fact that it is the only machine that will fill up the tub on “Deep Fill” mode (the Maytag only filled to 10 inches on Deep Fill) I was sold. I had to pay up for it but it was worth it! I was so happy to have found a machine that would compare to my sturdy old Maytags.
Well, I probably could fed my family 100 cad per person, even here, in Toronto. And no one would be hungry. But what I can't do and what is not possible - to make it food healthy and balanced. And I'm not talking about eating all organic when I say healthy. Enough protein, carb, fat, vitamins and minerals. Especially for children who are growing. A lot of future health problems are from childhood. Expensive and sometimes even not possible to fix.
I make lotta of homemade dishes,I vacuum Sealed everything in my tall huge freezer I use plastic baskets with holes ( so the air circulates around the food) I have PORK,STEAK, CHICKEN,,FISH, CHICKEN LIVER,BEEF LIVER, EVERY THING HAS A BASKET I'm alone and my pantry is loaded also,I only buy on sale,I started this while my husband was living, tragedy struck him and I lost my first boyfriend from 1965, I was 15 him 17 he has been gone 2 yrs the 22 and of August
Tawra, I just bought your price ebook. I used to keep a price log 25 years ago, but I learned my prices well enough that that I didn't need one anymore. The last couple of years the prices have changed so often that, I'm thankful get your price book with the work down for me. Now I just need to fill in all the numbers. 😊 Btw, I love your Cookbooks!❤
I hit the restaurant supply a while back. After I left, i looked at the sale flier. It had Hershey's syrup for $10 a gallon and I missed it. What a bummer! Maybe next time.
I have a small chest freezer and I had food in it and I unplugged it for a reason because something spilled by the plug and I forgot the plug it back in and all my food went bad
I don't understand the concern about wood in food. Cinnamon is made from the bark of a tree and people routinely cook with it. Native Americans have been making tea from tree bark for centuries. Trees are nothing more than large plants.
A block of cheese is hands down better quality than pre-grated cheese. Every consumer must make the choice if the packaged product is worth the convenience.

Random tip. Cut your children's hair when they're sleeping and trim their fingernails too!
It's so nice when Jill joins in
Agree! Would love to see some more of her quilts she makes.
Congratulations on 25 years!

I’ve never bought precut fruits. Not because of the price so much, but because I don’t know how sanitary the person cutting it was.
to me< they dont let it ripen first. then it spoils faster too
Congratulations on 25 years of great tips, laughs, common sense!😊

80% Hamburg was $1.97# this week, so many things were on sale that I took advantage of them.😊
Congratulations on 25 years. What a milestone!
Congratulations on 25th anniversary! I just purchased your volume 1& 2 cookbooks for 25% off. They are beautiful!!! So much information!

That works for our family.
Aldi has great condiments. We have been happy with all of them. Prices are great usually. Though they did go up there too.

Hello
My may tag is over 20 years and going strong///washer and dryer and I am getting rid of not either one.
I shop weekly from Safeway. I literally only buy what’s on sale. I’m pretty stocked.
