I’ll be the fist to admit that I’ve tried adding sod and grass seeds to restore a bare area in my front yard, but grass refused to grow 😫. Therefore, landscaping the space is an GREAT way to cover the bare spots, while adding beauty and style to your front yard space🥰. I too have a yard full of clay that can at times feel like trying to dig through concrete. Here's some tips I've learned that you might try:
1) Purchase a 4 pronged tool that is designed for break up hard ground and thick weeds.
2) I know the digging is difficult, but using the tool I suggested should help to remove much more of the clay soil surrounding your plant or tree that you’ll be planting. But first add in some amended soil instead of using all that hard clay that came out of that hole. Consider keeping on hand a combo of sand, a good planting mix, bone meal, and compost. Mix these together with some of the clay to improve the soil in which you plant your trees, shrubs and flowers, and watch them take root and thrive, and grow much stronger and much better.

We have this in Maryland with new construction … I invested in a heavy duty DeWalt stud and joist drill and a 7” auger bit from power planter!!! Worth it!! Digs a hole like butter!!
What a beautiful job, as always! Digging through that soil for tree woulda had me calling it quits 😅. I’m sure birds, bees, butterflies etc will be looking to drink from your fountain. I recommend adding some big rocks that come slightly above the water line so they have a place to perch and the smaller insects won’t drown ❤

What a great job! It looks beautiful. I bought landscape fabric last week. Can't believe it's so much $$ now. I planted a little dog wood last year. It made it thru the winter. May I suggest Dr Jimz tree secret. I have very clay SC soil. You order it online. It's liquid. You mix it with water. It did great for my trees.

Here in WI, there all no flowers and the nurseries are not open. I spent a fortune on plants and flowers last yr. This yr. I am starting my own seeds, but, I will have to still buy a lot. I have 8 gardens. I have a claw foot bathtub which I painted like a cow, and my friend painted me a huge wooden head. So cute, it's my showpiece and I do that first. Since we live on a farm I have collected a lot of antique farm items that I use to plant flowers in, and a lot of antiques to decorate my yard with. Keep up your creative ideas! I enjoy watching.

I prefer that black edging as well. You get a lot and its not expensive and like you said if it aint broke don't fix it LOL!!!

I love snapdragons and they are sold as annuals just as many other plants but they come back every year at least mine does and other "annuals" come back as well maybe it depends on how bad the winters are

Good morning Carolina you are doing great job landscaping in that spot and it hard to dig the soil out to put a plant in. Also my parents pay a mulch and pea moss for the truck. When they come by we put a tarp on the driveway so they can pour them down on tarp instead of buying mulch from the store. It also saves money.

Beautiful results. The fountain was a gorgeous decision. The final outcome is so pretty. Please buy a tree stake to ensure your tree grows up straight and strong.
PS: I would use Miracle Grow liquid lawn food to feed the bare grass areas. I see green runners, which means the food will speed up the process and fill it out nicely. ❤😊

I found a similar size dogwood at Walmart for 29. To save and n brick and edging trips, measure the perimeter of the island, divide by measure of the length of bricks to get amount needed. Blessings on your day, Industrious Woman .

The landscape project is gorgeous and kudos to you for doing it alone. FYI, those dusty miller plants are going to grow out so so much over the fall and winter, but the good thing is you can trim them down. You may have too many in the same area.

With clay hole prep is so important, usually need a hole 3times the size of the root ball and def needs good soil added. This helps it to root and thrive. Lotsa hard work bu worth it.

Oh my gosh I love this!!!! The tree is lovely! And let me tell you, we are not mathematicians LOL it is ok to need more bricks and more trips to home depot LOL - I do the same all the time! That little fountain will be full of birds in no time! ♥ ♥ ♥

That is AWESOME! The instant gratification you get once you've completed a project that someone wanted to charge thousands for, is priceless! I purchased all the lighting from Walmart. The rock lights were only $5, when I brought them last summer, now they're $12. Hope this helps.
