I love these. Had one for years as a hand me down bike through 2 older bros. No matter what, it always ran. And hearing that motor just brought me back to being 15 again. Thanks for the memory.

The XL 175 was my second bike. Another great motorcycle.
Just amazing work on these classic bikes. They may not make them anymore but these guys put craftsmanship and love into these machines. They're good people, and do great work.
have a 74 im in the process of bringing back to life.
I learned to ride on this bike in Ojai California in 1990. Couldn't pick it up when I fell and lost most of my shin skin more than once trying to start it. The glory days!
You must have been pretty young when you had one. I could pick it up at age 12. But I was a big kid. Great memories though eh?

had one brand new , had so much fun on that little bike. biggest issue was the kick start would snap
My brother had one, I think 73. We put a a rear knobby on it, would take the tail light and mirrors off and take it on the trails. What a Great Bike !
Use to get my teeth kicked when was a kid by my buddies XL175. All I had was a little KE100 but I would be mad as hell anyway. Lol. It was a used and abused irrigation bike but it still ran good.

My xl175 has stuck piston. Cool looking bike
Had a 78' ts 185 two stroke and my buddy had a XL 350 and it would get smoked by the 185👍
I guarantee that you can use a tuna can with an oil rag for an air filter, cut the old rusty exhaust off just behind the motor, and tear through the desert to your heart's content and the bike dreams with joy!

We actually have one, it just sits. I ride my DRZ-400S more than anything. I think it has stator or magneto issue? I’ll have to trouble shoot it and take a closer look.
I don't think these bikes had a magneto. But I could be wrong. Been a hell of a long time since I had one.
Nice bike looks like the one from bill Maury in meatballs keep the kickstand up so you don't scratch the floor next to jrs burn mark lol

Has anyone come up with a fix for the insanely weak kickstarter shaft? They seemingly are made out of glass. The last I looked they were UNOBTAINIUM.
I own one(‘73) but it sadly has a broken kicker shaft sitting in two pieces. Would love to find a solution for this. Maybe I need to call Kaplin. ??

How do you find a header for that? better yet how do you find a header for my 81 XL 500?
How ever you do it, it will be far easier than finding the OG stock exhaust! They are like hens teeth. Not surprising they neglected to mention it was missing the correct exhaust AND side cover that they were hiding with that MX plate. Lol.
@4:07 It might be the angle/ lighting atbut that looks like some heft orange peel for original pain may be the decal but it doesn’t look right to me.....
