  • I proudly present my build of the RMS Titanic model kit by Amati.
My model is the "Hachette Version" which was pubilshed as a partworks kit by Hachette Publishings / Hachette Partworks Ltd. (hachettepartwo...) almost 20 years ago.
For me, it was a 16year long journey but it was worth it! I could not be happier with how it all turned out.
Back in the days, I sure was ambitious but I had no idea how challenging this build would be for me ... because up to this point, I had only ever built the usual plastic models by Minicraft and Revell.
Unfortunately at some point I decided to "take a break" which turned out to be 16 years long 😂. The ship ended up on a shelf where it remained until the challenges of 2020 provided me with a lot of time at my hands and a desperate need to do something, anything really. So in a way, the Corona-pandemic had at least one positive side effect.
For all of you who are interested in building this model yourselves here are a few helpful links to get you started:
You can buy this magnificent model kit directly from its manufacturer Amati (based in Italy).
Please note that the kit they are selling nowadays differs slightly from the Hachette version. The ways in which it differs exactly, I do not know but judging from what I've read in several online forums some parts are even "better" because they aren't "resized" (i.e cut in half 😅) to facilitate publication in a magazine-friendly format. If there are any other differences compared to the Hachette kit, I'm sure they make the model even more magnificent ☺️.
Please also note that the model stand you see in video was custom made by my father and me. Additionally, the name tag is also custom-made... I bought it off of eBay.

I, however, opted to replace the cardboard bulkheads provided by Amati with photo-etched parts by MiniBrass. This decision surley added a considerate amount of extra work to the whole process, but a climpse at my model reveals it was absolutely worth it. This looks fantastic! Well done. I'm also resuming my model build after a 15 year break... I'm just wondering if you'd recommend buying all of the minibrass parts? Or are there some you could skimp on as they're quite expensive!...

Well done!! I’m currently building the same model and same as you, the model was abandoned for a long time. I had the model since 2003.
Also bought the MiniBrass photo etched parts.
The covid pandemic has let me continue with my Titanic and I hope to finish it before 2021 ends.
    We will see.
Anyway, congratulations for your Titanic. Incredible work.

Hi Alberto, thank you so much! ☺️ ...I see, we share some similarities in this project 😅 I'm absolutely interested in how your model will turn out! Will you share your work on TH-cam, too?

Incredible job, congratulations to you and your Dad, I am very much thinking about that model, but looks like I have to paint it? And I think that is the hardest part, and I live in USA, not sure if they sell here

Hey Samuel, thank you so much for your appreciation ☺️. I believe I have read on the manufacturer's website that they ship worldwide but I'm afraid if you order directly from Amati (based in Italy) you'll also have to factor in import duties/ customs ...
I won't lie to you, at least to me this was an extremely difficult, demanding and also very expensive model to build.
I don't know about you, but I had no experience whatsoever with wooden models 😂 ... I can't guarantee success but if I was able to pull it off I believe others can too.
