  • For a second time, I proudly present my build of the RMS Titanic model kit by Amati.
In the meantime I got hold of a better video editor so I wanted to redo my first video 🙈😅😂
    ( • RMS Titanic - Scale 1:... )
My model is the "Hachette Version" which was published in Germany in 2003 as a partworks kit by Hachette Publishings / Hachette Partworks Ltd. (hachettepartwo...) almost 20 years ago.
For me, it was a 14 year long journey but it was worth it! I could not be happier with how it all turned out.
Back then, I sure was ambitious but I had no idea how challenging this build would be for me ... because up to this point, I had only ever built the usual plastic models by Minicraft and Revell.
Unfortunately at some point I decided to "take a break" which turned out to be almost 14 years long 😂. The unfinished model had ended up on a shelf where it remained until December 2019.
Little did I know that the challenges of the following year would provide me with a lot of time at my hands. So in a way, the Corona-pandemic boosted the building process a lot. Well, at least something good came out of it.
For all of you who are interested in building this model yourselves here are a few helpful links to get you started:
You can buy this magnificent model kit directly from its manufacturer Amati (based in Italy).
Please note that the kit they are selling nowadays differs slightly from the Hachette version. The ways in which it differs exactly I do not know but judging from what I've read in several online forums some parts are even "better" because they aren't "resized" (i.e cut in half 😅) to facilitate publication in a magazine-friendly format. If there are any other differences compared to the Hachette kit, I'm sure they make the model even more magnificent ☺️.

Please also note that the model stand you see in video was custom made by my father and me. Additionally, the name tag is also custom-made... I bought it off of eBay.
I, however, opted to replace the cardboard bulkheads provided by Amati with photo-etched parts by MiniBrass. This decision surely added a considerate amount of extra work to the whole process, but a glimpse at my model reveals it was absolutely worth it.
