I have bought Laptops for gaming when I’m on the go for years as I do allot of travelling, I decided to give the Legion Go a try and tbh I will never get a laptop for mobile gaming again, the Go is just so much more practical and surprising what the little thing could do performance wise. Just so much more fun to use imo, and your definitely right I see these things as the future for gaming on the Go

The biggest difference here is you can sit in public with a handheld playing games and you don’t look weird, but you sit there in public on a laptop playing games? Mouse and keyboard? Definitely look weird.

I got all 3 mainstream handheld PC devices. By far Legion Go cost me less open-box at Best Buy a few weeks ago online. For $520 including tax got another 60 taken off due to coming without a charger. I have put the Rog Ally down the screen on the GO is perfect I do miss the VRR that the Rog Ally has but, having a bigger screen can't compare it's perfect for me. It's getting better and, with each update, since there is an FSR 3.0 mod floating around once it's perfected these handheld PCs are going to be even more awesome.

I still feel like laptops are way better. A Gigabyte G5 (i5-12500H + RTX 4060) is around €799 on sale and it's a very thin and light gaming machine. Slap a €70 DualSense or Series 2 Core and for around €880 you get a monstruous performance over the LLGo while still maintaing the ergonomics of a sleek controller. Some people will call out that the LLGo or any other handheld PC is more portable but I'd argue against that. Yes while carry cases do exist the people I know who own a handheld usually take theirs on their respective case AND in a backpack. If you gonna carry a backpack why not take a laptop instead? :D

When it comes to Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, the Ally is the one I take everywhere with me due to size, weight, and quick sign-in via fingerprint whereas the Legion Go is my at home gaming handheld with slightly longer battery life and beautiful screen. As much as I like the Ally, I find myself carrying the Asus ROG Flow Z13 Acronym edition more than the Ally (have two more weeks before returning the Ally). HP Legion Victus Go 😉
I work security overnight and have both a laptop and a Go. I’m loving the Go, even though windows is finicky with touch and a small screen it’s amazing.
In your shoes, if I could only game on lunch and wanted a quick game, I’d go do the Go as a laptop is slightly more cumbersome and not as compact. As well you don’t want to sit at a desk at home after work, a laptop obviously gets warmer on the legs.
I set this little guy aside and use a controller, 3D printed V looking middle connection to make it into a full detached controller or use a dual sense.
It’s nice having that victus power though and larger screen less finicky windows.
Hence why I’m undecided between my Asus TuF A16 or my LLGo
Hopefully you know your laptops and the Victus doesn’t have a 50 at the end of the card name
I’ve played every high end game on this I can think of, literally anywhere in my city and the country, home, work and friends place or car use on wifi and on 5G. It holds up without lag and graphics are wild. But yet I still feel overkill enjoyment after switching to my laptop.
Sorry it was a long read. No worries if you didn’t 😅 Let us know what you decided!

Considering it's a mobile 1060 it's definitely faster. Had it been a desktop it would have been a different case. The one scenario where you would likely have better performance on your laptop would be memory limited scenarios. Because the 780M uses system memory and you have to allocate a certain amount to it in bios that means that your windows effectively is limited to 13 GB at most. So if you run into a memory capacity based bottleneck then sure. But then again the memory type is a LOT faster especially on the legion go at 7500 MT/s whereas at least the model of Helios 300 I was able to find with that combination of CPU and GPU is running at 2666 MT/s.

These budget laptops are not the best laptops to play on the go. Of course a super thin laptop would cost about twice as much as a Go but if cash is not a problem as in my case I would much much rather have a Zenbook S13 OLED with the 7840U than a Ally or Legion Go. A much better and bigger screen. Bigger battery, 32 GB of ram, light .
There is good reason most portable handhelds run on either Lunix or Android as Windows sucks from a handheld.
The main advantage these handhelds have over a super thin laptop is the price. Everything else favors the laptop for PC gaming especially running on Windows.

I would definitely NOT want ARM to take over. If that happens you can basically say goodbye to backwards compatibility with any old game where you don't emulate the hardware. I can play most of my favourite games including Thief 1 and 2, Deus Ex, Unreal, Colin McRae Rally etc. on my current PC. If you can get some source port projects going then sure. But using the original binaries then it's a big no. Apple have never cared about backwards compatibility and hence the change from Intel x86 based CPUs to ARM was pretty much a no brainer. They consider both hardware and software as disposable. With x86 at least the software doesn't have to be.

What I can build in a desktop for $900 will consistently outperform a $900 laptop, which in turn will outperform a $900 handheld device. The primary reason for this hierarchy is power consumption.
Desktops can operate with power ranging from 500W to 1000W, with 500W being on the lower end. Laptops typically consume around 100W, while handheld devices, even on their best days, only reach up to 40W in power consumption.
Please note that these price comparisons are based on EU prices, which include taxes. Specifically, I'm referring to the Legion Go and the ROG Ally models in this price range.

I meant no sain person needs both systems. A little overkill.

"I'm not keeping both" and "I'm not keeping either" are two entirely different things, OP

Dude he just meant he's not keeping both, insinuating he will only have one after said time of "much longer" has elapsed and was asking for input on which of the "both" systems he should keep.

Tus calculos de la legion go vs laptop, carese de evaluaciones serteras, lenovo go tiene el doble de capacidad en procesador y tecnologías actuales, que la laptop no tiene, sin discutir más, la portavilidada es lo q se valora en la legion go

Had both the Ally and the LG. Sold both. This devices are not there yet, in my opinion. They both feel like first gen products. Laptops are just better in every way, excluding size and weight of course.

To me, The Lenovo Legion Go is a better product, simply because to use a laptop you have to have a desk or table, which 90% of the time, while gaming on the go, you dont have.

hey not going to shit to much at you but if you are filming B-Rolls, why not clean the items first to give the best possible visual look of them to the viewers? I mean the screen on the lenovo looks like a pidgen shit on it first and smeared everything with its butt.
